Unraveling the complex threads of family
This play is about the powerful exploration of race , family, and the American dream. A father struggles to come to terms with his past and provide for his family Is at the core of the narrative. The play is a rich tapestry of emotions, delving deep into the themes of regret, resentment, and love. The use of dialogue brings the characters to life making them feel authentic and relatable.

Discrete, stays cool
This isn't about the contents of this book. Plenty of other places you can get that info. This review is about this version/printing. Good student version. Uncoated paper for pages, decent font size, lightweight binding. It'll last the semester. You won't wince at the price if you need to recycle at the end of school year.

A classic!
Just saw the movie and it was exactly like the book. August Wilson was a genius, a great story teller. As you read the pages, you are actually right there in the midst of the characters. When you see the movie, you'll know exactly what comes next. Denzel Washington did a great job as director and actor. The entire cast was awesome. It's a play by play in the rarest form. I want to see the movie again, with a bunch of friends. I certainly hope they make another movie from Mr. Wilsons play list.

Give it a chance!
This was a required read for a college class. I struggled with getting through the first few pages because I found the language to be very offensive. Once I got past that issue, I started to give the play a chance. I was drawn in emotionally and could not put it down. I have read quite a few plays, but this the only one that made me cry! I loved it!

Powerful
A powerful view of the struggles of a black family in the 50's. The reference to previous generations and subsequent generations teach powerful lessons. Should be required reading for everyone

Engaging for students
Ordered 55 of these for my 11th grade English class thanks to a grant I applied for. Students were engaged throughout. August Wilson’s brilliance has converted yet another generation.

So much meaning.
The story really can mean one thing to a male, another thing to a female character, and a different point of view for the younger generation. The older generation male, want to the younger ones to set their minds to what can be productive and a make living. Not to make their mistakes. They see no change in their surroundings. There is so much to say but I will leave the review, saying, it's well written. I truly enjoyed reading it. It's sad. No fantasy but we get to see and feel life through the eyes of the different characters.

Entrega do produto

Two Superb plays about the African American Struggle
Fences – Play script ***** Having recently seen the play, ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,’ in London, which I was immensely impressed with, I wanted to read a little more of August Wilson’s work. This book has that play, but also ‘Fences,’ which Lenny Henry toured with a couple of years or so ago. Unfortunately I missed out on that, but I really enjoyed reading this script and a fine read it is to. It is every bit as important as any of the great novels and important books written on the subject of African Americans in the US. There have been so many fine books written about their plight, struggles for equality and justice. This is hard hitting stuff with very familiar scenes and scenarios for the blacks in America, especially their coping mechanisms and legacies. Yes, the likes of Harriet Beecher Stowe, Mark Twain, Richard Wright, and Mo Mobley have all been there in one way or another and more recently Michael Alexander has exposed the white supremacists that still rule American politics and the law enforcement departments. This book concerns a troubled husband and father - Troy Maxson. He had a hard & disrupted upbringing. Whilst he is one of the very few to make it as a black sportsman in his youth – he knows he never got his true rewards or recognition and this embitters his outlook and ultimately effects those around him. He is locked in his own world of virtues & ideals and far- fetched stories, as the head of his family. He finds it impossible to shake himself out of it. There are those around him that love and support him through thick and thin, though he’s blind to it via his own dogma and self-centeredness.
