Great Quality! Works Well! Great Customer Service!
Spent a lot of time looking on line for a good pool pump. The reviews were more good than bad and the pump looked solid and well made. The specs were just what i needed. Arrived via Fedex a few days after ordering and was very easy to install. Very well made, solid and worth the money. Worked like a dream and really moved the water way better than my old 1,5hp pump that was throwing a bearing and noisy. Quiet and easy to remove leaf trap to clean. After 10 weeks it just stopped and motor was super hot! Probably had a bearing seize. Called customer service and spoke to technical, Giselle, and was very pleasantly surprised! Has a one year warranty and she emailed me a Fedex call tag to return the pump. Once she received proof later that day the it had been received by Fedex, she had a new pump shipped out same day! Doheny's really do offer peace of mind and easy to reach by phone and very responsive. Highly recommend them!

Absolutely ELATED!
When my "old reliable" 25 year old Hayward Pool Pump finally died (at the worst possible time) when I was in the process of opening my pool and needed very badly to vacuum the big 18' by 33' oval above ground 19,000 gallon pool. I was in a quandary as to where to obtain a replacement. I saw prices of $350 to $600 in stores in my area and on the Internet - but it wasn't until I decided to check out Amazon.com that I finally saw prices that weren't scaring me away. Needless to say - I was a bit skeptical as to how Amazon could beat everyone else's prices by so much. Another concern to me was: Will this pump from amazon be the proper replacement? To find out - I called Hayward and gave them all of the info from my burned out pump (on the plate on the motor), along with the info on this Hayward pump I found at Amazon - and they told me it would be the correct replacement. Another concern was that the picture shows the discharge going up - but mine was to the side. The folks at Hayward told me that with a little bit of disassembly, I could rotate the discharge to the side to match my application. Here is exactly what I paid - including the 2-day delivery charge from Amazon: Total for This Shipment: $206.25 - and that blew away the lowest price I could find elsewhere be over $125. My first surprise: Though I paid for 2-day delivery - the pump arrived at my door the Next Day!!! My next surprise - it was So EASY to rotate the discharge from up to the side to match my setup. My next surprise - This Pump is So QUIET that you can hardly hear it running!!! I thought "old reliable" was quiet - but this pump is So Much QUIETER!!! Another surprise is how much cooler to the touch the new pump runs - I could not touch the older pump when it was operating as it ran so hot it would burn my hand. That excessive heat is wasted energy and higher operating cost. Though both pumps are rated at 1/2 HP (Plenty Powerful for this application) the older pump was rated at 13 Amp whereas the new pump produces the same 1/2 HP with a rating of 11 Amps - so the newer motor technology produces the same power with a lower current draw - so this will Cost Less to operate. So far - one month and working GREAT! This pump is quitter, runs cooler and has noticeably more power than "old reliable". Some dealers tried to talk me into another brand - but seeing that my first Hayward pump lasted 25 years - I'm not about to switch brands - I'll stay with the #1 selling brand for pool pumps - Hayward. The bottom line - I am absolutely ELATED with my new Hayward pump - and with the Great Amazon Service and the incredible FAST Delivery - you can buy your replacement pool pump with CONFIDENCE from Amazon.com!

Attaching this to Intex pool with intex hoses
So I wanted to try and answer one of the questions above about how to connect it to an intex pool and filter but I was unable to do so, so in writing this-which by the way is my one and only review, but I felt it was absolutely necessary because of the massive amount of struggle that I've gone through this last week with this pump. I got so many different opinions, information about how I could possibly hook up my 2 inch in diameter female thread peice with a 1 1/2 in hose to this 1 1/2 inch female parts of the pump. One person answered that you can just get a steel nipple-this is wrong wrong and wrong! First of all you shouldn't get steel as it rusts almost immediately if you use any chlorine at all in your pool. Two, the type of threading that the intex pool hoses have are so hard to come by, well actually impossible. You need to have it be screwed onto enough to make the hose push back so there is no leak and any NPT thread will not work because it gets bigger in diameter the more you screw something on, so getting a nipple to then connect to an adaptor to increase the diameter will leak because the diameter on the adaptor gets larger and larger the further you screw on so you will get that hose pushed back so no leak. Anyway, after many many stupid pieces bought, and too many people thinking they knew what would work and then it didn't, because everything would leak! I found what worked for me. Now again, I have intex hoses that are technically 1 1/2 in diameter but the piece that is on the hose, the grey/blue part that is a female end to attach the hose to the pool or pump or filter is 2 in in diameter and the Hayward pump had also female ends, first problem, and it's 1 1/2 in diameter so two problems-same ends and wrong sizes to match up-well what I ended up doing was bypassing the screw on piece to my pool hoses all together. I bought the intex pool adaptor for hoses (Pool Pump and Filter Universal Hose Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002ZIZG0Y/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_SAqEvb3AFK4K8), like the one for a vacuum, which is 1 1/2 in diameter male thread, which goes into the pump, in two places- so you need two of these. And you absolutely need to use the white plumbers tape on the thread otherwise it will leak-wrap it 3-4 times and then twist it a bit so it gets into the threads-I learned this the hard way after having some pieces that required tape and some that didn't-I hadn't put the tape on yet so when I got these I thought because it leaked oh here's yet another part that doesn't work-well it did work, I just hadn't put the tape on yet!! Thank god I looked at it again before I flipped out lol. And then I just pushed on my hoses to the other end of the plastic adaptor and then used those metal rings like what you would attach your vacuum hose to your vacuum with, but you will need bigger ones if you have hoses like mine, (btw my intex pool is a 9'x18' rectangle with the metal framing and I have a intex sand filter-a big one), and you use a flat head screw driver to tighten it. Remember, two of everything because You have to do this in two places. So you need to do this for both the hose that comes from your pool to the pump and then the hose that goes from your pump to the filter. Also, buy one of those black wall plugs so you don't start draining your pool By accident when you try to put in the new pump/they suck because they fall out constantly but I didn't have an outside valve of any sort and wasn't going to spend $80 to get one when the plugs are dirt cheap and they do the job. Also, you will need some type of timer to plug into your wall outlet since this one doesn't have an on/off switch let alone a timer like the intex pump I started with had. When I bought my pool I bought the sand filter pump combo and I always thought it was supposed to be loud, and mine got louder which I know why but it's started it just dang loud-I mean my neighbors asked for me to not run it at certain times because it was so loud when they were in their yard-this was when I first got it!. Man, when I finally got this guy set up all ridiculous crap I went through was worth it because it is sooooooo much quieter. My old pump was almost a 1 hp, just below, but it was also crapping out and this one is so much nicer. I am so glad I found the way to connect it because I really didn't want to have to just go back to get another intex pump because of the hose connection issues because this one is so much quieter and better. Also, whoever made the intex pump should be shot for making it so dang hard to get to the screws to detach it from the stand-grrr! Sorry for such a long review-I've never written one but after all the crap I went through with this product and reading forum and forum and talking to numerous stores, I finally found a way for it to work, and the idea someone wrote in the questions section is just wrong about this steel nipple-it will rust and leak!! And the way I did it you don't have to change everything to all PVC plumbing which you will Still Run into the unique intex threading issue unless you change the piece in the pool Walls too-and that's just too dang much! I just had to share what I learned so no one has to go through all crap and torture I did. I'm sure it can be helpful to anyone that has a hose that has a unique threading Mechanism and if they can bypass that and do what I did they will Be good to go. Good Luck!

Great pump with some limitations
This is a great little pump, quiet and efficient. Very simple to hook up. The inlet and outlet ports are a standard internally threaded 1.5" connector, and the leaf basket features a clear lid with a large handle on the top for ease of removal. It took me about 10 minutes to remove the fittings from my old pump and put them onto this one - the only part I had trouble with was fitting the on/off valve from my old pump to the new one as the old pump took a larger externally threaded on/off valve (so the water doesn't run out of the pool from the skimmer when you are cleaning the leaf basket) and the new pump doesn't come with one. I was able to just buy a replacement valve for $10.00 from my local pool store. Having connected all the fittings and pipes I fired it up and was instantly struck by how quiet it was. I bought this one because the bearings in my old pump were going and it had become very noisy, but even before that it was way noisier than this replacement unit. It fit the pump base for my old pump perfectly, I just popped the pins, swapped the pump and replaced the pins - no more than 2 minutes. The pressure valve on my Hayward sand filter immediately registered a 4-5 psi increase in pressure, and the return jet into the pool is definitely stronger. The leaf basket on this pump seems no larger than the one on my old pump, but it is clearly visible (the insert/leaf basket is white which helps you see if there is debris in there), and the lid is air/water tight yet easy to remove (don't forget to lube the 'O' ring before first installation of the lid). There are a couple of limitations with this pump: The pump is a single speed (but quiet on the one speed it runs at); There is no on/off switch on the motor - you have to disconnect it from the power outlet to turn it off. Neither of these things were problematic for me as I would always run the previous pump (a 1.5 HP Hi-Flo) on full speed anyway, and I connect the pump Via a timer which is within easy reach of the pump. For the price, and provided you don't NEED 2 speeds or a power switch, I highly recommended this great little pump.

Great product!
Awesome pump, well made, great quality. Don’t waste your time on the off brands, they are cheap and fall apart. Worth the extra money to buy the Hayward brand.

Leaks and Squeals
I bought this towards the end of the pool season (2025). It was a direct fit and replacement for the Hayward pump that has failed me after 15 years. The pump made a loud squeal on start up from day one and does go away, but the loud squeal definitely should not be there. I should have returned it, but was in a bind. I don't expect this motor to last very long because of this. Obviously the bushings are compromised. But that is not the worst past. The pump leaks at the outlet join to the filter. I must have removed the fitting no less than 20 times. Taping, Taping with thread sealant, just thread sealant, new fittings at least three times. The threaded female outlet on the pump is warped and no matter how much sealant or tape you use, it drips. What a waste of $420 bucks. Next time I will go with the Chinese knock off for half the money as this pump is no better in terms of life span and quality control. Just opened the pool. Before closing it last season I took the filter apart and gave this join one last shot which was once again unsuccessful. I know what I am doing. I used to take my filter apart annually to clean it out and would remove the fittings from time to time. Never had an issue with just re-taping the fitting when I needed to.

Pool pump
I wish we had known that it doesn't have an on off switch. You have to unplug it everytime you need to clean the filter. Other than that it was priced right and works perfect.
