Open Topo Maps has files based on open street map that's free. Garmin charges $140+ for a map.

is this compatible with HUNT onxmaps??

YES! I have a new etrex 20x and there is a place for map chips.I have put the onxmap for Wyoming into mine.Now I haven't been to Wyoming with it as of yet but you can download the free Garmin Basecamp and via USB port zoom in on Wyoming(or whatever state onxmap you have).You have to zoom in a bit and not looking at the whole state as shown on Basecamp.Once you zoom in enough your onxmap will kick in and show whats on your chip.Will be the same map as will show as if you were there.Mine works great.

What type of batteries does this take? does it have its own internal battey that can be charged or is it aa or aaa

This device uses two AA batteries and it does not have internal batteries. However, you could use two rechargeable AA batteries and simply turn the switch on the device to rechargeable mode.

I track of all my hiking in google earth files (kml). does this unit record the path you hike? can you export those tracks to a computer?

Yes and yes, you can collect waypoints, and tracks, keep it on the gps or put that data back into google earth or use Garmin basecamp...amongst other mapping programs. You can also put data from google earth (Kml, kmz, Gpx files) and put them into the gps.
