Private operative and former Navy SEAL Jack Brandt barely escaped a disastrous undercover assignment, thanks to the most intriguing woman he's ever met. When his enemies track him to her doorstep, he'll do anything to protect Morgan from the danger closing in on them bothโฆ Since her husband's death, Morgan Rains has only been going through the motions. She didn't think anything could shock her-until she finds a gorgeous man stumbling naked and injured through the woods behind her house. He's mysterious, intimidating-and undeniably compelling. Thrown together into a pressure cooker of danger and intrigue, Jack and Morgan are finding in each other a reason to live - if they can survive. Review: Action, romance and a believable back story. - I read this in one session. The plot started quickly with a widow living a half life, saving a Navy Seal after torture during a mission. After that, it was running, hiding, getting to safety, only to have more action happen. The story had an interesting quirky ending. I'm looking for more of her books. Review: Drama and suspense galore - Another book with the character being an ex-Seal. If I were to be in trouble and pursued by bad guys, I'd definitely want to be under Jack's protection. Again, there are 3 fellows who watch each other's backs. Morgan innocently helps Jack only to become pursued and threatened because of her association with Jack. Quick read. Like all the action and vulnerability - and strength - of the two main characters.

Gripping suspense
This was a well written gripping action novel. At times I felt the romance was rushed between Jack and Morgan but then again, considering the situation they were thrown in who can blame them!! Great action suspense, and I enjoyed the conclusion greatly.

Bad Nights
This was an extremely intense story. It kept me on the edge from begining to end. It also had some romance that had a very good ending. I hope there's another book in the series.

Predictable all the way through
wanted to love this book, loved the synopsis of a strong, trained man on the run on foot with a woman, trying to protect them both. unfortunately the "on the run" time wasn't long enough. I had real trouble with how the possibility of sex and sexual awareness was brought into the picture from the moment they met, considering the hero was bruised, beaten, and in and out of consciousness. The whole story was filled with stereotypes. Each page of the book was highly predictable, I could easily tell who was going to say what next and what would happen next. I never cared for these characters. The author didn't help me connect to any of them. The villain wasn't plausible, I never understood how his pre militia career made him prime material to train and discipline a militia. He was ineffective and somewhat stupid. How did our hero escape him multiple times? And when he finally had the upper hand, why didn't he fully take advantage of the opportunity to get more information and knowledge of the people.in Rockfort Security? Why didn't he drill for information from his captive? at the beginning of the story the heroine thinks to herself "if I do this I'm too stupid to live" and so didn't do it. Our villain had similar opportunities and chose too stupid to live. With the appropriate result. just sucked, and I'm sorry I wasted time on this instead of re-reading Shanna like I originally planned today.

Good story
This wasn't the best book I've ever read but the story was compelling and kept my interest. I even stayed up late to finish it. I also liked it enough to look for other books by this author.

Bad Nights
First time I have read this author and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm a big fan of Suzanne Brockman's T.S. series and always find myself comparing other authors who write in a similar genre. Most come up short and Rebecca York is not equal but still a very enjoyable read and I like the characters she has created in this story which is part of a new series. The action is fast paced and the relationships believable and pave the way for some interesting follow-up story lines. The plot line was also credible when we all live in a society of biological warfare fear. The female lead has just the right amount of strength verses vulnerability and the way the personal relationship develops between Jack and Morgan, the two main characters along with the action: is believable without being too sentimental and too fast for reality. Perhaps the author Maya Banks should take some advice on those pointers!!! I've been sorely disappointed with her similar offerings about the Kelly family set in a similar genre. Anyway - If you like strong military heroes ,good plots and fast paced action laced with sizzling romance - give this author a try. I'm definatlely looking forward to the next book in the series featuring Shane one of Jack Brandt's partners.
