Review: Interesting, informative book - Been enjoying reading this book and learning about coffee. Pretty informative and makes me appreciate my daily coffees even more Review: Short, readable guide takes coffee brewing to the next level. - Really fun for a person who likes coffee enough to learn a little about what a serious expert thinks about the brewing process, without becoming a chemist. Strikes a perfect balance between the minutiae of technical science and simple kitchen tips. The book is short and the chapters are short, written in a conversational style for a lay audience. But, there's enough detail to stretch the knowledge of most casual coffee drinkers to the next level. Great gift. And, it definitely offers ideas for making a better cup of coffee, which is a practical benefit, not just theory.

Brief, good read - looks good on table
A few reviews on here disparage the book as 'Wikipedia lite' and 'not that informative'. However I think the book does exactly what it advertises - sheds light on the science behind coffee harvesting, roasting, and brewing. While I could've certainly found this information on the internet (what can't you find on the internet, really..), I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the different methods of roasting and the processes behind it, etc. The book looks great, and I usually keep it open to a page near my coffee set up to remind me that coffee is more than just something you drink to wake up, and that the process from tree to cup is long and delicate.

I love this book! It’s extrmeely informative and I love how much I learned about coffee from reading it. Each large portion of info they give you that may or may not be confusing they provide cute little diagrams and pictures to help you understand it better and I really appreciate that. Definitely recommend!

Quality Intro to Brewing Basics
This quick read is the best introduction to the science and reasoning behind making coffee that I have read to date. Makes the brewing chemistry and physics easy to understand without delving too deeply into the specifics.

Good for uninitiated coffee enthusiasts.
There's not a whole lot of ground shattering knowledge to be gleaned from this little book if you are any sort of coffee aficionado. Might be useful to anyone unfamiliar with anything other than drip coffee machines.

Excellent.
I‘ve purchased so many books about coffee, but this is the only one I would truly recommend. If only I had found this one first, I would have saved a lot of money.

This book offers a really good intro to all the different factors that affect a ...
I bought this book when I got a job as a barista (after a seven year hiatus from the profession) and needed to brush up on my knowledge to impress the new boss! Also, I live in Nova Scotia where home espresso machines are not really available (unless you wanna pay a lot of shipping from elsewhere), and so I wanted to know how to get the most from my stovetop espresso makers and my french press. This book offers a really good intro to all the different factors that affect a coffee bean's flavour, from growing region, to drying method, to roast, to grind, to the type of brewing apparatus you're using. It has just the right amount of technical info that you can dip into if you wish or stay out of if you don't. Most importantly for me, it gives you the vocabulary tools to express what it is you want from a coffee, so when someone says "fruity, citrus" at you, you can actually understand what the hell they're talking about.
