Will the enclosed pens work against gravity? Could it be used by someone lying in bed? Would the blue disk fall out? Thanks!

I haven't tried it upside down but the pens are not the best quality so I don't imagine that they would work against gravity. Any pens can be used though. As for the blue disks, gravity holds them in place when you aren't applying pressure from the pen. I think you would find this difficulty to use in bed.

does the case snap closed?

Yes, the case does slide snap closed... it's very neat and easy to use..... I keep a small ziplock bag for the wheels, while they are using it... and when they aren't using it.... everything fits very neatly inside. Also, I bought the multicolored post-its that fit perfectly on the toy and stay in place when they slide and snap the top part to draw. Great toy! We have two so there is no arguing. ;)
