Excellent nightlight / flashlight / emergency light during power failure
I highly recommend these, it's just like a little flash light that's always charged, can be switched to automatically turn on if and when you loose power, and can also be a nightlight. 3 great functions in one super bright LED light. I purchased 4 of these for my home, one for each floor hallway and one for a bathroom that doesn't have any windows and gets very dark at night, so the nightlight feature was great and shines just enough with out being to bright. I've often thought about what if I was in that bathroom and the power went out...Hmmm might bump into a lot of things trying to find my way out and back down the hallway. These are excellent!! Relatively small in size, fairly rugged, feels like good quality, an LED light meaning it will run for hours and hours on a charge and wow they are extremely bright. For me now if I need a flashlight I simply go to the outlet and it's always ready to go. If the power fails during a storm, these automatically turn themselves on. Great, no more bumping into things in the middle of the night or coming home to a completely dark house if the power is out. I've also discovered that even if I'm not at home and their is a power failure, people still think I'm at home...my neighbor across the street saw the light on in my house during a recent storm that hit the area that took down the power for about 3 or 4 hours, and thought I was home .... Nice little security feature there I thought, if there is a light on inside the house, probably means someone's at home...a criminal is probably going to think twice before breaking into a home that's lit up when the power goes out. I also found a little BONUS on these units (at least the ones I received) A small door with a little screw holding it shut, on the opposite side as the switch. When I removed the screw and used a screw driver to slide the door/pocket out, I found a replaceable battery .. .BIG BONUS.. Now granted the battery is one I've never seen, it's like a large oversized watch battery, but it's replaceable meaning you can purchase it online for sure if not at your local battery store and you won't be throwing these devices away if the battery no longer holds a charge...just replace the battery. Previous devices, from other manufacturers that I've owned have been throw aways due to the units being sealed shut, no way to open them without completely destroying the units. I've had my units for nearly 3 years and during a recent power outage that lasted 3+ hours these units were still going strong and were running at full brightness.

Amazing product and solution. A bit on the high end of pricing however
Very clever and perfect for what I need it for. It is very light compared to similar light output LED flashlights I used to use. And the good thing is, 1. you always know where this one is, it is plugged in and thus is always in the same place 2. it is always 100% charged which you pull it out to use it... no more wondering if the battery has only half its life left. 3. it is light weight and bright enough, smaller than some as well. 4. it fits in your pocket and doesn't weigh the pocket down Good for walks on the beach. It holds its charge when not plugged in for months. VERY impressive flashlight. I have now purchased 5 of these. Price is higher than some, but the features and durability make it well worth it. .

Quality is good, and I think it would easily survive dropping ...
I ordered one of these after a power failure confirmed that my old power fail nightlight had stopped working. This isnโt a night light; itโs really a small rechargeable flashlight that turns on automatically when the power goes out. The light is bright, but more directional (like any flashlight) rather than something that would light a room (like a lantern). Quality is good, and I think it would easily survive dropping on a ceramic tile floor. I was so impressed I bought three more to place around my house. Update: Almost a full year after buying four of these flashlights, we had a power outage a few nights ago. I had placed one on each level of the house (near the stairs and in key rooms), and they all came on. They weren't bright enough to read by (that's what your tablet is for), but plenty bright enough to help me find my way safely around the house. I used them to find candles and big flashlights in case they were needed. When I went to bed over two hours later, the Energizer flashlights were still burning strong.

One of my Favorites
One of my favorite flashlights! This is the second one I bought for myself and I've bought a few for other people as well. You can set them to auto turn on when plugged into the wall if the power goes out. I personally leave that setting off, since the battery life is only around 3 hours run time on high and I wouldn't want to lose power in the middle of the day while at work and come home to a bunch of dead batteries. That said, I can see how the setting would be helpful if you're in your family room and the power goes off or if you have a tv theatre set up in your basement. I like this light for finding things around the house or right before going to bed. Beam is a little narrow, but these are one of my favorite flashlights of all time. You also know they'll never be dead when you need them if you leave them plugged in and in the off position. (If you can't figure out how to set it to auto turn on when the power is off, you do it by plugging it in with it in the high power mode.) If you plug it in on the low power mode, they say it acts as a "night light" and then it stays on while plugged in, even when you have power. One other thing I forgot to mention! You can also use this to test if an outlet has been properly shut off (if you need to work on your outlet). There is a little red charging light indicator, so you plug it in and see the light, it means the outlet has power. Light doesn't turn on, then it means no power to the outlet. My dad and I use these to test outlets whenever we need to make sure they've been properly shut off. (Or to check if an outlet has power if something else doesn't seem to be working right.)

Absolutely adore these lights.
I have several of these in my home and just purchased some more. I am going to give a couple to my neighbor who is nervous when the power goes out. I'm surprising her with them. I live in Florida and power brown outs and quick surges are normal here. We also have the severe afternoon thunderstorms that many times kick out power for a little while. These lights are fantastic. I keep one in each bathroom plugged in and one in the main area of my home. Being in the shower and having the electric go out is NOT safe so this little light is great when that happens. They pop on when the power goes out and are plenty bright enough to light the area until our electric comes back on. I also keep one in my garage plugged in and turned on for night light. Many times I need to make a quick stop in the garage and there is no need for the overhead light. This little flashlight is more than fantastic for all my needs. A couple of years ago I gave all my family members a couple of them. Trust me, you will love them. Small, bright, easy to use.

Fantastic Flashlight
Worked well while i had it. I like that you could plug it in and it would charge as well as provide a light source for a room or a hallway. I also liked that when it was fully charged you could use it as a flashlight for an power outage. My dog ran into it and broke it into multiple pieces but while i had it it worked really well and would recccomend.

Comparison of four contenders
We lose power often here and I bought all four of these to test out. Here is what I found. Energizer RCL1nm2, 1 LED Primarily an emergency flashlight. Nightlight is selectable, the unit can function as an emergency light without the nightlight turned on, good function for basements and other areas where you don't need a nightlight all the time. Ergonomics - comfortable to hold, easy to point. Plug folds into handle, one sliding button (ON - emergency light mode or flashlight when not plugged in, OFF, Nightlight mode), and good cogent instructions. As an emergency light - functional emergency flashlight, a five foot diameter circle at 30 feet, not very good as an area light. It won't replace a good Fenix, but it's a lot cheaper. Beam points up or down during emergency. As a nightlight - again the beam points either up or down, light output is lower than when in flashlight mode, but still fairly bright. Not photo controlled, so if it's on it's always on. Outlet space - excellent use of outlet space, plenty of room to plug in other items. Non-polarized plug so can be plugged in pointing either direction. Battery is Replaceable (Varta CP300H $4-$10) G.E. 11281 Nightlight, emergency light. Nightlight is on when the unit is in emergency standby mode, so the only way to disable the nightlight is to disable the emergency light function. Ergonomics - comfortable to hold, beam is too unfocused to point. Plug folds into handle. One button to turn the emergency mode on and off or the light on and off when not plugged in. Very poor and confusing instructions. As an emergency light - poor light focus for use as a flashlight, but reasonable area coverage although not very bright. Beam diffuses outward and up or down depending on position. As a nightlight - reasonable area coverage, photo controlled. Outlet space - good use of space with one great exception, the photo eye is in the end of the handle that points to the center of the outlet, if you plug a large item into the other outlet, you run the risk of blocking the photo eye and thereby having the nightlight turned on all the time. Non-polarized plug so can be plugged in pointing either direction. Batteries are NOT replaceable. Greenlite LED 3 in 1 Nightlight, emergency light. Nightlight is on when the unit is in emergency standby mode, so the only way to disable the nightlight is to disable the emergency light function. Ergonomics - bulky as a flashlight. Plug folds into handle. One slider switch with On, Off, and nightlight/emergency light mode. As an emergency light - low power flashlight beam; during emergencies, the nightlight comes to full power which is useful as an area or passageway light. As a nightlight - reasonable coverage and area, light level changes by photocell but never really shuts off regardless of light level Outlet space - poor use of space, you may be able to slip a lamp plug by it, but anything larger (such as a three prong extension cord) will not fit or will stress both plugs. Batteries are NOT replaceable. Satco 75-046 Nightlight, emergency light. Nightlight on this unit cannot be disabled. Ergonomics - bulky, one slide switch to turn on and off the flashlight, the nightlight has no control other than the photocell. Emergency light - Flashlight pointed out of the front so difficult to aim; however, can be set on table and pointed to allow for task lighting. Poor weak beam. As a nightlight - very good area coverage, photo controlled. Outlet space, bad, both outlets covered, polarized plug limits orientation. Batteries are replaceable (Ni-Cad AAA) For me, I like the fact that the Energizer can still function as an emergency light without having the nightlight turned on. That said; the nightlight for the Energizer is not photo controlled, so when it's on, it's on. It is the best flashlight of the bunch, not a replacement for a regular flashlight, just the best of this bunch. If I had a hallway and wanted it lit for company and in an emergency, and didn't want access to the other plug, I'd probably put the Satco there. The Satco's only saving grace, and the reason I'd pick it over the others with photo controlled nightlights, is because of the replaceable batteries

I got a good one. However
Perhaps, according to several reviews, I got a good one. However, I'm very happy with mine and will buy another. Light; conveniently has its own wall plug for easy charging and holds a charge for a long time. No problems of any sort. I had it and used it every night for the past two months.

It is compact, nice and bright

Will go on when power goes out if you leave flashlight setting on.
It is bright and does not take up space. I have mine in my kitchen which is on an inside wall with no windows in my apartment. This will give me a light right away in the event of a power outage if I am in my kitchen. Nice light.
