So much to love about this beauty of a find.
So much to love about this ink! So I'll start with the actually ink itself: 1. The color is spectacular. Blue is my favorite color but not any blue will do. It is not those flashy, bright, overkill, bright, dance recital color blue but rather a dark denim, matte tinge blue. A blue that if I were to purchase this color dress, I would not have an issue matching it with other accessories. 2. What's not to like about a permanent ink in today's day and age with so much theft and deception going on. I did not know that regular pen ink could be washed away until recently which is one of the reasons I went on a search for a permanent ink. 3. Archival ink. I again did not know anything about archival quality until I started a few decades ago working on my ancestry and saw how ink could fade. 4. It is a good size bottle of ink. Will last me a while which is very important. NOW... the most exciting about this bottle of ink. It is made in good old New England! And so we get to support a fellow New Englander. So far I know for sure that my family is and always has been a true New Englander... residing in New England through many a war... including the Revolutionary War. And I will even go so far to say that even the box it came in is interesting. Not sure if the boxes are all the same but mine had cute little decorated pictures on it and had a fish. If you are a New Englander and have ever been Striped Bass fishing, you just know what I mean. Now they have forced me to have to go look up this regiment and learn more about it. And who knows, maybe I'll find one of my relatives served in it.

Beautiful Blue Archival Ink
Very nice blue. More on the darker navy side which I like. Tested waterproof on basic copy paper 1 min after applying the ink. No smears. Perfect stay. Definitely an archival ink which I was looking for. I use a Pilot Metroplolitan pen with an italic nib and the ink flows flawlessly with no feathering and no bleeding through the copy paper. My bulletproof black ink from Noodler did bleed slightly through cheap paper so anticipate this will as well. With higher quality paper Iโve never had an issue.

Solid choice.
Interesting ink. Iโm new to fountain pens and chose this ink for work, needing something with some water and face resistance. First: if flows well through a TWSBI Precision with the EF nib, handling fine writing tasks on small forms with ease. The color is interesting. Sort of a โhighway dieselโ tone to my way of thinking. Itโs that darkish, greenish, with a touch of blue to it. It defies description. Individual without screaming for attention. It seems good for personal correspondence while not standing out in professional, industrial settings. Four stars because time will tell how it resists damp and fading and whether or not it plays well with a steel EF nib over time. Lastly itโs worth noting that this ink will stain fingers and work pants so handle with all due awareness. On balance, I like having this arrow in the fountain pen quiver. 54th Massachusetts is a solid choice and if youโre on the fence about it, pull the trigger if you can. Even if it doesnโt become youโre favorite, itโs still a solid choice that wonโt take up too much space and you never know when it will be the right choice for some writing tasks down the road.

Worth your money to try!
I recently bought a bottle of this ink to replace my Parker Blue-Black Quink. They are both priced relatively equally; Noodler's cost more, but came with more ink. In most ways, I prefer the Noodler's. The color of this ink is absolutely fantastic. It leans slightly more toward blue than black, and is crisply legible on the page. Moreover, it has remarkable consistency between different types of paper. This is in contrast to Parker's blue black, which looked great on some papers but horribly faded on others. Another nice feature is the 'bulletproof' nature of this ink. I tested this against water, bleach, alcohol, spit, etc... and it would not budge (until there was a physical hole rubbed in the paper!) Most important is the fact that it's waterproof. I've never seen another ink so permanent, and yet it washes off of my hands easily! More than anything else, this is the number one reason to check this ink out. The behavior of this ink is moderate to good. It takes a bit of effort to prime the pen after sitting, but it also behaves well in the pen, and has yet to leak. Nib creep is a visual issue, but doesn't affect writing. One point of contention-- this ink has a noticeable odor to it as you're writing. It doesn't particularly bother me, but it could bother some people. In summary, this ink is definitely worth the price of admission. Try it!

Noodler's Bulletproof Holding Up a Reputation
The Bulletproof line is famous in the fountain pen ink community for being: A. Waterproof B. Great color choices (since permanent inks are usually dull and lifeless) C. Difficult to clean and/or going to stain your pens D. Feathering 54th Massachusetts is one of the most popular choices in this line of Noodler's ink because it's a really cool color but professional looking and very very waterproof. Does it feather? Yep. Expect that. Does it bleed? I mean, don't use it on copy paper and act surprised. Is it super permanent and will it stain whatever it touches? Pretty much. Don't put this in pens made of porous material (like wood and certain plastics). They will forever be blue. Are you an adult and can handle permanent fountain pen ink with the same understanding and care of a sharpie? I sure hope so.

Excellent ink
Noodler's is one of the most commonly recommended inks for fountain pens. It's not hard to see why. This ink produces a beautiful deep blue color on white paper. It dries reasonably quickly, but stays easy to write with in the pen. The pen will just glide across the page and produce excellent results. So far as the waterproofing, well, I had to test it out, didn't I? I did some writing on the back of an envelope (so, not exactly high-quality or specialty paper), left it to dry for a few minutes, and ran it under a faucet. Even after the envelope was thoroughly waterlogged, the writing with this ink remained legible. That's quite impressive; I tried the same with a couple of standard ballpoint pens on different envelopes and they did not fare nearly so well. If you want a beautifully colored, easy to use, and near indestructible blue ink, this will do you very well indeed.

My favorite ink!!!
I had wanted more of a aqua or dark teal color ink, but most aren't waterproof and I write a lot of letters and I don't want the address on the envelope to smudge in case anything gets in it. But this color is gorgeous! I think there are lots of samples up, but I'll try to add one later if not. But typically it looks like a slate blue..a bit of grey...bit of green...depending on the paper and how light or dark it goes on. It gives beautiful shading...though I'm probably not using the correct terms at all...but where you pause on a letter, or end a letter where its a bit darker and it looks gorgeous!! And it dries crazy fast. I wrote a word and touched it as soon as I was done and it didn't smudge at all!! And the bottle is super full which is such a great value! Just a wonderful ink!!

Nice color. Holds fast.
Re. 54th Infantry. This ink has a very nice color on decent paper. Almost a denim blue with a hint of green/gray. It is a little wetter than I am used to. It behaves best in my Parker medium nib, but makes the lines a little broader. My Lamy with a 1.1 stub nib, has a tiny bit of nib creep, but not like some of the other Noodler's inks I've reviewed. My Waterman with a medium flex nib is not so well behaved with this ink. I am wiping it a lot. I guess it all depends on what pen and nib combo you use. I can say that it holds fast on paper in a water test. I haven't gone as far as using solvents, but under a good dose of water, it is almost as it was written. It will bleed through cheap paper a bit. In my water test, with cheapo notebook paper, the lines of the paper disappeared but the ink did not. On Rhodia, other than the water wrinkling the paper, it was as if the ink was just written. IMHO, pretty good. I'm not worried about anyone tampering with my checks.....remember those? :) I like the color and characteristics. I'll buy this again if I ever run out.

54th Massachusetts.
1st of all: 100% waterproof. 2nd: 100%Value For Money. Superb Delivery by Amazon as well as "Helloyehlo". Delivered very well packed. Great job by Fedex Courier. The ink slightly feathers, but that is normal for all waterproof inks. I have used de Atramentis dark blue/ blue and they spread much more than 54th Massachusetts. Shading: Not Found really. Finally: Fully Satisfied.
