Volume 4 of Komi Can't Communicate continues the adventures of the cripplingly shy teenager Shoko Komi and her quest to make 100 friends with the (sometimes unwanted) help of her current friends. This volume includes chapters 48 through 57. As with the previous volumes, this volume continues the same basic format in which Komi and friends are put in various situations. This volume sees the end of the summer vacation and return to school. Komi finds herself in such situations as participating in a school athletic event, going to a photo booth, and even just playing a video game. The usual comedy ensues along the way. Also like the previous volumes, the artwork in this book is of the same top quality with expressive characters. It is really enjoyable taking in the art and getting a few good chuckles over the sometimes hilarious expressions the characters have. The writing continues to be entertaining as Komi and her friends find themselves in otherwise ordinary situations made comedic thanks to things like Komi's shyness or Najimi's over-exuberance. Overall, if you liked the earlier volumes of this series, you will like volume 4.
