Penn Spinfisher VII Spinning Reel and Fishing Rod Combo

Bought this when it was on sale. For having paid less than what the reel costs alone I'm already satisfied with the amount of paid. I'm a big fan of Penn reels. I own my fair share of Spinfisher V series reels and was looking forward to trying out the new Spinfisher VI series. Love the smaller body design in this next generation of the spinfisher. It seems bit lighter than the V series. I've also heard that it's basically a clone of the Slammer III series, but with a few less seals. Love that it's finally officially IPX sealed. Although I think the V series was also considered a sealed reel. The rod is Meh. I'm not too sure about the steel guides, but it seems like many major box fishing companies are going that route. I think uglystik do and no the pursuit III series is supposed also have stainless steel guides. My biggest concern is the erosion caused by braided line over time. We'll see though. I like the 1-5oz rating making it pretty versatile. I would say the power is Heavy the action is medium fast. Probably won't use the rod, but much for the price of the combo it's totall worth it.

Second time I have ordered this rod/reel combo. First time I ordered this item it was damaged due to shipping it in clear plastic with no protection. This is a 300$ reel, it is astonishing that they do not protect this item for people spending good money on this item. I received my replacement in the mail today and it was also broken. The fiberglass was crushed where the two rods connect to make 1 singular rod. Penn is making quality product for Amazon to ship w zero protection. I guarantee 7 out of 10 rods are received damaged. I’ve ordered 3 rods from here in 3 weeks and every single rod was damaged. It just blows my mind. Do not order from here guys. Until this issue has been addressed.

Completely broken Reel will not engage. Product showed up in bad condition

DO NOT ORDER THIS FROM AMAZON. Good quality rod and reel no problem there, but they shipped it in a plastic bag. Turns out this is common practice for Amazon to ship rods and reels this way - absolutely ridiculous. Order from the manufactures website or a fishing store instead.

I like the Spinfisher reels. I had a SF VI combo and the bale on the reel fractured one day and shredded my braid. I had to look around for parts to repair it (and did). I got this to replace it. It works fine. I've caught some bluefish and jack on it. Soon as the weather clears, I'll get some Spanish Macks.

The only reel I have ever had you can drop in saltwater a rinse off and still be good. Only a few of the Penns have sealed bearings and this is one of them. I kayak fish and that is a big deal to me so i spend the money. I have 5 in all the sizes and use them weekly, and they give me no issues. I have caught some big red fish on these reels. I will buy more when these wear out and use the old ones for parts.

I like the Penn products, but not sure if I would order online again. If I can't find the Penn product in the future that I am looking for local, then I would be possiblity purchase a different name brand. Although Penn is my favor. when I receive my delivery, the rod tip was broken into and the wire barb on the reel was bent. I was given credit for the rod and purchased an off brand local to replace rod, as for the reel barb, I worked with it for a while using plyers and got it so the it would work as should but you can tell it is not as it should be, but does work.

Broken tip right out the box. Shipping box was in perfect shape so I assume it was put into the box like that. Beware people... You would think Penn would be a little concerned about the garbage that gets sent out.
