will this work with a vioactive?

This sensor DOES work with the Vivoactive 4S. Someone said it does not but they are incorrect -- both the cadence sensor and the separate speed sensor both pair with the Vivoactive 4S and will then display data directly within the bike activity widget -- but note that you'll have to make sure your data screen has a field added to show Cadence

I have the forerunner music and have the garmin app and trying to connect with my new garmin cadence sensor but that is not a device on the list ?

Did you put the sensor on your crank arm and rotate it? It is activated by the rotation.

Does anyone know if you are able to read your cadence in real time? i have the vivoactive 4s & so far can only see it when i complete an activity.

The cadence sensor attached to the crank, not to the spokes of a wheel. If you are using a Garmin Edge, it will read cadence in real time.
