Review: Nice Reference - Very colorful and interesting. Review: Good geology labs for homeschool - We used this for our science labs during our geology section for homeschool. Most labs are stuff around your house, easily gotten or purchased on desertcart. We made crystals, sorted rocks (we also bought a separate rock set off of desertcart), saw dirt laters and etc. We didn't do all the lessons. The book also gets into fossils a bit so I purchased a separate small fossil set to sort off of desertcart. Pictured is our borax crystal formation.

Good geology labs for homeschool
We used this for our science labs during our geology section for homeschool. Most labs are stuff around your house, easily gotten or purchased on Amazon. We made crystals, sorted rocks (we also bought a separate rock set off of amazon), saw dirt laters and etc. We didn't do all the lessons. The book also gets into fossils a bit so I purchased a separate small fossil set to sort off of amazon. Pictured is our borax crystal formation.

Great for any age
Lots of fun activities. Som of them you can even eat. We are homeschooling and studying rocks and minerals and so this is a great way to get the kids to do some Hands-On science experiments.

Great book with lots of good ideas
Great book with lots of good ideas! I bought it for ideas for my science class students. Many of the experiments require an oven, microwave and/or refrigeration, which may be difficult with a class. I wouldn't be able to do them with my class because I don't have those facilities available. Keep that in mind if you want to use it for a class.

Interesting and practical geology labs for everyone
Geology Lab for Kids by Garret Romaine is one of a series of titles (from different authors) all released by Quarry Books. The 'Lab for Kids' books have various fun and instructional exercises aimed at a younger audience. This particular book has 52 fun projects which are arranged thematically in units. Kids can learn about crystals, geodes, different types of rock (sedimentary, igneous, metamorphic), fossils, metals, space rocks and more. I'm something of a science fanatic (admittedly more of a bionerd) and I learned a fair bit from this book. (It's been some *cough* decades since my last earth science class). I even learned two Hawaiian words for lava "aa (pronounced โah-ahโ) and pahoehoe (pronounced โpa-hoy-hoyโ)" from the introduction. I can see this book being quite useful for an introductory earth science lab or as a homeschooling resource. The photography is beautiful and the experiments are fun and interesting and each one includes a conclusion with questions and the "science behind the fun". Worth noting that each exercise includes a safety section. Four stars Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher.

It was a big hit!
This was a gift to a 9yr. old who has loved and been fascinated by rocks since she was a toddler. She seemed very excited with the gift and immediately started reading. She can't wait to do some of the projects. She was excited that it had recipes too.

educational and fun
It was a Valentine's gift for my 9-year old grandson. We have done several projects together and he has done some on his own. We really like it. I purchased a container and several small containers to house crystals, etc. he already had, and a small journal to keep everything together. We love items that challenge but are still fun.

Good for rainy day projects
Be advised this is for the book only (no materials included) Still the majority of the projects can be done with household items.
