Astro Pneumatic Tool 1838 ONYX 3/8" Nano Angle Impact Wrench - 415ft/lb

I bought the 3/8 inch drive ONYX 1838 Astro first... then I bought the 1/2 inch drive 1832 Astro, the 1/2 inch Thor 1894 impact wrench, the Astro 222 angle and straight die grinders and the Astro 208 3" cut off tool. Have all of these types of tools; but, the ONYX brand is much better than the CP and IR tools for torque and basic functionality. The price was very reasonable for all of these tools, much less money for a much better air tool. I retired some of my older CP and IR impacts and die grinders and I am very happy with the ONYX brand. I had to grind away the recessed pocket in the die grinders for the handles... kept biting my fingers when I squeezed the lever; but, the die grinders and angle cut-off are quiet and very powerful. I have an IR, Air Cat and Earthquake 1/2 inch drive impacts that I have no need of now... the Thor is so much better for removing wheel lugs and such, lots of torque and power. I have a lot of all sorts of pneumatic tools, I am now sold on the ONYX brand. The little angled 1832 1/2 inch and the 1838 3/8 inch impact wrenches are very unique, they are not a pneumatic ratchet wrench, they will both take off wheel lugs as well as some of my big IR and CPs do. I did not think I needed any new pneumatic tools; but, after the purchase of the little 3/8 inch 1838 I realized I was not using the best. I use them constantly... may as well have the best and the price of all of them was very reasonable.

Astro Pneumatics Angle Impact Wrench Very impressive pneumatic impact wrench. Got it from Amazon yesterday and had to try it out today. Hooked it up to my 10 lb CO2 bottle with inlet pressure regulated to 120 PSI and can flow up to 45CMF!! This is one smooth impact wrench. The trigger is progressive and allows the air to be throttled going into the wrench so you can modulate the speed. Some other impact guns are either full on or off and nothing in between. This is not the case for the Astro Pneumatics impact wrench. The build quality is absolute 1st class. This is a professional grade tool. The impact wrench has both Forward and Reverse direction settings. Within each setting, there are three positions to regulate the amount of force the wrench puts out. This way, you can tighten to a certain point and then finish off the final torque with a torque wrench! Very nice!! The three positions for the selector switch has detents so you can tell exactly what position it is in. The detent tactile feedback are subtle but it is there. The opening for the air exhaust can be rotated so it doesn't blow directly into your face. While I have not had the chance to test the 415 FT-LBS torque setting, I'm pretty sure it has the capability. Folks who say impact wrenches that don't meet up to the torque spec probably do not have sufficient volume of air flow - CFM. This will not make the tool work properly. I have another impact wrench and ran into this exact problem using a small home style air compressor. It didn't have enough air VOLUME and struggled to remove wheel lug nuts at 100 ft-lbs! This is not the fault of the impact wrench - make sure your air supply has plenty of air VOLUME!

For context, I'm just a home DIYer but end up working on a lot of cars for family and friends. I also live in the rust belt, so an impact wrench makes most jobs a LOT easier and helps avoid snapped bolts, especially on older vehicles. This Astro has been amazing and fits just about everywhere, particularly for brake and suspension work. Does it have the power of a full size 1/2" impact? Of course not. But it has plenty of power for just about anything you'd encounter in a tight space, and it has been able to tackle everything I have thrown at it. My only wish is that the trigger was a little easier to feather, but it's not a big deal if you're careful. In general, would highly recommend!

I got this mainly for very tight spaces especially when doing my brakes. I'm not a professional mechanic nor do I work in a auto repair shop. I do most of my own repairs and came across a situation where it would have been so much easier to have an impact wrench that would fit behind my brake rotor but my current impact was too big and had to fight with the nut in a hard to reach place. I wasn't quite sure how strong this was until i tested it on one of my lug nuts on my 4 Runner and it took it off no problem. Surprisingly when I unboxed this I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to screw the air hose fitting into the end of the impact wrench until i realized you need to remove the plastic protective cap with a simple flat tool like a screw driver. Once I removed it i attached a swivel fitting onto the end with a quick connect and started using it. I was able to get this at a price that was the lowest by tracking the price from my shopping cart. I noticed the price fluctuates every few days.

Bought this to get in tight areas and it works good but not very strong

Works well on removing rotors and wheel bearings on a 2009 Lexus RX from the rusty New England area. Love the small form factor

I love this little thing I mostly work with suspension on cars and it can go into really crammed spots where the other impacts can’t get I like How easy the trigger is to control has multiple modes r1-3 f1-3 so you dont snap or over torque nuts and bolts compared to the one from harbor freight that has none of that and is slightly bigger and more expensive. I was hesitant buying power tools from Amazon but I definitely will from this brand in the future.

Great torque and pretty balanced tool

Im a automotive mechanic and I can't tell you the joys this tool brings me. I love it. Astro did a hell of a job. Beautiful in tight corners, lots of power, just great. Well worth the buy.

Its a perfect tool with matching air swivel coupling work on me as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic on tight space on low profile i recommend it highly

I have thousands of dollars of air and electric impacts, and this one is a gem! Lots of power, good for tight spots, and does what it says it will. Won’t break loose 400ft/lbs (true torque), but it will spin it off once it is cracked with a breaker. I am a professional truck mechanic, and I use it almost everyday now.
