If you want to learn Excel & Become the Office guru this is your book!
I have become a very accomplished Excel office guru due mostly in part to John Walkenbach's Excel Books. I started off With Excel 95 and moved on to Excel Formulas, Excel VBA, Excel Bible etc. As a matter of fact I have been able to use my Excel knowledge that I learned from Reading Walkenbach books to make around 5K in the last 10 years, and that's not even trying. When people see my Excel work they asked me where I went to school, and I tell them I didn't. Then they ask how did you learn this, and I tell them I read a book. They then look at me and ask "What book? I want to get that one." That's when I tell them about John's books. Looking at my library I have 10 Walkenbach books (Even a Chinese one). Though I no longer need the book I ordered it for my son's whom are just now learning Excel, and what better way to learn from the best. Looking over the book it's clearly written with many valuable examples. What I find is when you are learning it's not enough to just explain how to do something, but to show you a picture and an example give you 10x the learning experience. This book doesn't disappoint in this area for it has many examples. Earlier I said I had become the Office guru and didn't need this book, and bought it for my Son's. Well guess what? I learned something! Yes even a person who has been using Excel for years should find something in this book that they didn't know, or a better way to do something. The one thing that I miss in this book is there is no attached CD with example files. These files are invaluable in saving time when learning, but the examples are in the book, one would just need to type them in, and it's certainly not a deal breaker. So bottom line if you want to learn Excel this book is for you. If you want to learn it better, this book is for you. If you want to just brush up on areas of Excel you don't use much, this book is for you. If you would like a gift for a college student learning Excel, this book is for you. With the many areas of Excel training on the market you have to choose wisely which ones to spend your dollars on. When it comes to Excel books the choice is easy - John Walkenbach, no other name is needed. I couldn't recommend his books more highly. Ken

Mr Excel does it again
Excel 2013 Bible This is a excellent book on Excel 2013, very big and very informative, I am determined to read it cover to cover and advance my Excel knowledge as I go through. I think that John has been nicknamed Mr Excel and that is a perfect name for him as I do not think that there is anything that he does not know about Excel.

Not for the faint of heart
I knew nothing about spread-sheets before reading this book. I am still learning and will be learning for a long time in the future. This book is complete, concise, precise and an authoritative presentation of Microsoft's Excel 2013. It is helping me construct a detailed monthly budget which enables me control expenditures. This book will be a valued instructor on Excel 2013 and a valuable library resource in the future. The book is worth the money that I spent.

Great for VBA Newcomers
Excel 2013 Bible I got this for a VBA coding class a couple years ago and let me tell you that both this and the Excel 2013 Power Programming with VBA, link below, saved my grade that semester. It really helped me understand how to use VBA for various applications and went through step by step on how to code. I am not a coder and by the end of the semester I was writing hundreds of lines of code for not only the class but for my own personal use. Would absolutely recommend for any novice in excel VBA. Comprehensive!
I used Excel 6 years ago when I worked. I had multi-sheet spreadsheets and had cell populating and doing mathematical computations based on entries into other spread sheets. then those figures were translated to graphs on yet another sheet. So back again to using excel and the book; I have been able to find everything I have wanted to do so far. My only caveat is: I don't know how this book will do for a beginner since I have not used it in that manner. I, am totally satisfied with it!

Become the go-to Excel person at work
If you've never read an Excel book by John Walkenbach, then you don't know how to really use Excel. This is the second Excel Bible of his I've read, first was the 2007 version, and I've also read his 2013 Power Programming in VBA and his Formulas book. By the time you get to Chapter 3 in this book, you'll be better at Excel that 90% of the people around you. Excel is a powerful tool, and this book shows you how to get the most out of Excel. It's more than just a great application to make todo lists.

Bible?
When I bought this Excel "Bible", I expected to find all Excel features exhaustively discussed. In particular, I hoped to find something about the "Advanced Filter" which I had been having trouble using. However it's not even listed in the index and as far as I know never mentioned in the text. Apparently the author either doesn't think it's important or for some other reason. He omitted it, not only from this book but also his "Power Programming with VBA" as well. (I did find an excellent extensive discussion of the Advanced Filter feature in Jelen and Syrstad's "VBA and Macros"). I was also frustrated by Walkenbach's extensive list of VBA functions that only list function names and terse descriptions, but nothing about the arguments of these functions. Lacking further details, just the function names by themselves seems worthless. The material that the author does cover, he does go into in great detail in a very clear and authoritative manner. Maybe I just expected too much from a big book with "Bible" in the title

An Excellent Compendium
I purchased this volume because I acquired a new computer with a new operating system and had not used Excel extensively for a couple of years. The book is excellent for an update or for someone with challenging computations. In my opinion it well written and great as a refence. I highly recommend this work, especially if one runs into someone who has a lot of questions about Excel. Just refer to this book and save a lot of frustration.
