The Elder Scrolls: The Official Cookbook Review: Fun recipes - This was a fun gift for my son. We made the sweet rolls and they were delicious! Review: Very Unique - Love It - I ordered this for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves it. I reviewed the book before giving it to him and the attention to detail is amazing. There’s a wide variety of food options and types of meals, as well as gluten free options. Once I gifted it to him he’s been very excited to make meals he’s enjoyed in the real game. He absolutely loves cooking so I think this is a great gift for anyone who loves the game/fantasy and wants to get more into cooking because it’s a great place to start. All the instructions are very clear which makes this easy for beginner chefs. Plus all the meals and drinks are very unique which makes it even more fun.

Awesome!
I am a longtime fan of The Elder Scrolls and this cookbook is awesome. The recipes are really good, well researched and lore accurate. It even has some pages of just lore, not recipes, for example there is a page with all the playable races and it describes what kind of cuisine they eat. I think the different cultural foods of the different races are awesome, and I thought the Bosmer foods were especially creative because obviously there is no way to legally acquire human meat for the food they would actually eat lol. If you like TES or know someone who does, this is a great buy.

Amazing!
So fun! I love the pictures and detailed recipes. The little bits of story that they add to every page makes it so fun to read through! I absolutely love it. The few recipes that I've tried so far have come out amazing:)

Nerdy food porn
If you like food and the Elder Scrolls, this book will give you nommy nerd-gasms. Gorgeous photos, illustrations, and recipe descriptions. You don't have to know how to cook (or own a stove) to enjoy that aspect of the book. It's got the "food porn" angle covered When it comes to the recipes themselves, I think the book is worth having, but there are some issues. I have yet to make every recipe, so I'll update this review as I do. THINGS TO KNOW: #1 - Think the book is pricy? Wait until you get a load of the ingredients. Many are hard to find and the cost adds up quick. If you order them online, between alcohol, herbs, spices, and dried fruits (are juniper berries fruit?!) expect to spend at least $400. That doesn't include the venison, lamb, cheeses, or the gallons of honey you'll need. #2 - The old hippie lady at your local herb store is about to become your new best friend. Why? Every time you try a new dish, you'll be in there trying to chase down burdock root or dried currants or something. She is the key to you getting all the herbs you've never heard of for less than the cost of a college education. I went to my local herb shop and picked up 8 ingredients for $8. The herb store is your friend, not Amazon. #3 - When you try these weird spices/fruits/tree bits, you'll recognize a lot of them from your favorite international restaurants and want to put them in everything, so buy a little extra. The three basic spice mixes are delicious and fun to experiment with. Grains of paradise are now a pantry staple at my house. #4 - Making the Long Taffy Treat will make you cry. If you follow the directions, that is. It took me 3 tries to get my first batch of chewy candy ropes. Stir it constantly as it cooks, and bring it up to 280-290 degrees F. The recipe makes no mention of stirring and the proscribed 255 F will get you soupy puddles. So far I've made: Nord spices (I was like wtf until I got it wet) Stormcloak seasoning (put it on ur meat!) Imperial seasoning (makes green things kid-edible) Garlic bread (good, but it's basic) Long Taffy Treat (see above, great in mint flavor) Water of Life (kinda like tan, dill-y Jager) Skooma (omg I want more but I'm too drunk to stand up) Canis root tea (eewwwww!) Spiced Warm Milk with Honey (as in "honey, can you make me some before bed?" "Again!?") Nut & Seed Loaf (gross! Needs honey and spices!) Next on my list? Juniper lamb chops, Horker Loaf, or maybe Lavender and Honey Bread. UPDATE: Meade - do your own research and buy actual brewing equipment, unless you want bottles exploding in your kitchen. My fiance got it figured out and made, we strained it, put it in our fridge and now, a few months later, it's amazing. Great on beef roast, too. Horker loaf - meh Parmesan leeks - yummy

If you love elder scrolls, you'll love this book
I got this book to make the sweet rolls and ended up trying mead making, savory dishes, and other baked goods. I would recommend not using as much rye as it says to, use half. The seasoning blends are amazing, you will need a lot of stormcloak seasoning, so start making that in bulk. I loved everything I baked or cooked. The sweet rolls alone are worth the buy. I found 2 of my new favorite recipes, the horker loaf and the goatherds pie. I loved this cookbook.

It’s very well designed with nice quality paper. We tried 1 recipe from the book and it was tasty (shrimps). My only problem and it’s a serious one is that the book is falling apart and I barely used it. I own it for less than a month.

The Elder Scrolls cookbook brings the cuisine of Tamriel to life. The book is full of game references and information about the various races and their foods so if you love Elder Scrolls youll love the book just for the content itself! The recipes are creative and vary in difficulty level and the book is full of recipe photos (i firmly believe cookbooks should have a photo for each dish!) My only issue with the recipes is i find there is a reliance on two types of meats; fish and pork. A mix of different meat items would make it more realistic and consumable for all people with different tastebuds, the book also needs more vegetarian options aside from basic starters! Aside from the minor lack of diversity of the meat used in the dishes i highly recommend!

This may be a game tie-in cook book, but it is full of real recipes that taste great. Chelsea Monroe-Cassel has done a wonderful job adding Elder Scroll's flair to recipes like Costal Clam Chowder, Leek and Cheese Crostata, and Companions Meatball Bake. Each recipe has a little introductory paragraph or two that ties it into the game world. For example, the recipe for Chicken Dumplings talks about how it is a a favourite at inns across Skyrim. Below this introduction is a level rating, which tells you how difficult the recipe is to make. (The vast majority of the recipes aren't too difficult at all. A few, especially those with pastry, could be tricky for novice chefs.) And, below that, are the stats re. cooking time, servings, and what the recipe pairs well with. The ingredients list and directions are clearly written, and each recipe is beautifully photographed. There is no nutrition information though, which is the only fault I can find with this book. The book begins with an introduction to Tamriel and the races that live there as well as some of their celebrations. The next section covers spices mixes that are used throughout the book, along with dough recipes, etc. The Sides, Starters, & Snacks section has some great recipes including Hot Mudcrab Dip. This is followed by Baked Goods; Soups & Stews; Main Courses; Desserts; and finally a section on Drinks. There is a short appendix dealing with dietary considerations, which lists which recipes are suitable for vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free eaters without any alterations. Overall, this is not only a lovey book to read and look at, it is also a very good cook book full of tasty recipes.
