I purchased this gift for my father who does a lot of traveling. For some people it's hard to find a unique gift that really stands out, and here's something that was perfect for him. My father seemed to really like the idea of this map allowing him the ability to see where he's been and offer a visual reminder of where you want to go next. One other thing I liked about this product was the presentation and packaging are very well done, it doesn't come off as feeling cheap, but has a really solid, quality feel to it. I think the makers of it designed the tube it comes in to be portable in case you plan on taking it with you during your world travels, and it really is well done. The only thing that surprised me about the product was how the map wasn't very large once it was pulled out, but for the sake of portability I suppose this makes sense. This map is fabulous. I have now bought 3 (various reasons), and I would buy more, but here are some of the issues: 1) The size is funny. It can be hard to find a frame to match it. When you are looking to buy the map, you can keep in mind that you can easily cut off the bottom 3-4 inches if need be. The stuff at the bottom of the map is pretty useless. Ie. It says 'Visiting Australia?, to which, if you were, you would scratch off the box. It then reads underneath: "Tasmania is said to have the cleanest air in the world." Not exactly something which you need to be showing off to your family and friends. You have a bit less wiggle room on the left and right of the map - maybe 1 cm each side if you had to cut it in. 2) Be VERY gentle unraveling the map, as any accidental scratches on my map came from the unraveling process, no matter how gently I tried. 3) Easter Island and the Galapagos are not on the map. If you are going to anything fairly smallish in terms of islands, there's a pretty big chance it won't be on the map. What's really neat: 1) Not every country has the exact same colour. The colours underneath the gold change throughout the map 2) You don't have to scratch too hard to get the golf stuff off 3) You could easily add in your own islands with a label maker and some basic paint/markers to make the islands

This product was just as described and the previous reviews helped prepare me for what I was getting. It's a ton of fun to scratch off a country you visited and I'm anxious to see the map become even more colorful. I agree with some others on the complaint that each Continent is the same color. Also, and this can't be helped, it's really unsatisfying when you visit a small country. FYI, only cities with populations over 2 million are indicated on the map and state-lines are not defined, only countries. It was a gift for my wife because we love to travel, and she was very pleased with it. We have yet to figure out how we are going to hang or display it. Some people complained that the product was delicate and shipped with scratches. I have not had the same experience.

This map is the number one gift I would give (and will give, around Christmas time) to all my friends who love to travel. I recently bought one for myself, and my expectations were wonderfully exceeded. The tube it comes in is high quality and durable. The map itself is very colourful and laminated, and the gold foil shines spectacularly, making it look very high quality. My only caution is that you make sure there is a smooth surface behind the map when scratching off your countries. My walls are slightly textured and I ruined Greece by accident, but after that I simply framed it and remove the front glass whenever I need to scratch another country off. You won't regret buying this. Trust me.

Bought this for a friend. She loved it. The tube it comes in is also the shipping container and it doesn't allow you to rip off the shipping label and tape without ruining the outside tube which kinda sucks. The map itself is really nice! It has a prominent border around the countries so you don't over color anything. With that being said, it is tough to scratch off. My friend was scratching off four or five different counties and it took her about 30-45 mins to do with a penny but it sure looks good when it's all done!! Because she liked it so much, I'm going to be buying one for myself!! Great purchase!

Very challenging to scratch off. I don’t know what the use for the scratch off material, but not only was it hard to use, scratching it actually ripped through the paper underneath. Unfortunately, I can’t return this, so it’s a lesson learned. Don’t waste your money, it’s not worth it.

I bought this map for my girlfriend of two years because we plan on traveling the world via WOOF which is an organization responsible for offering a free place to live and free food in exchange for working on their farm during the day. They have farms almost everywhere. It seems to be a great way to travel. I'm 23 and she is 27; this trip was beginning to seem like a pipe dream which could never realistically come to fruition. After making passion love last night I gave her this anniversary gift early because I just couldn't control doing so. It brought us together. This product materialized a dream of ours into a distant reality instead of an idea we'd never follow through with. We are so excited to finish school and leave this crazy place for awhile. As with anything, you get out of something what you take from it-what you put in. If you need a scratch off map to track where you've been, this one is as high quality of a product as anyone could really ask for. I find that my money was well spent here.

My husband and I have been to about 30 countries, so I thought this would be a fun map to frame and put in our powder room. Turns out we haven't traveled to large enough countries to make the map colorful enough for my taste. Until we can scratch off Russia, Greenland, Antarctica, Brazil, and several African nations, the map is too monochromatic for me. It comes in cute, durable packaging, so it makes for an attractive gift. Arrived on time and in good condition. There is nothing wrong with the product, it's nice quality, just realize that unless you have traveled to most of the large countries of the world, it's not going to be colorful.

Was bought as present but can not give it because the package is messed up! The cover got out in several places

I have one of these and love it, brought this one as a wedding gift and they absolutely loved it! Size is great and large enough to see the countries, easy to use once rolled out. I also brought the magnetic frame holder which was great.
