I love this set. It’s quality. I use it every day. The only thing not amazing about this set is the little cheap leather sheath that it goes into, the sheath is crappy and the tie will snap not very strong leather at all. I think it’s fake, but I didn’t buy it for the sheath 🤷🏻‍♂️

For those freaking out over the oil, ITS OKAY! They don’t deliver it with oil just to be gross - oiling metal such as this helps to prevent rust, so they’re actually bringing it to you in great quality. Yes, it’s gross, and you don’t want to stick the spoon in your mouth with all that oil. Just use warm water and dawn dish soap. Give it a lil scrub with a soft sponge and then let it soak. After a couple hours, you can wipe it dry with a paper towel and watch all that stuff come off. The tableware does not get damaged from either the oil nor washing process, so long as you aren’t using harsh products like a deep scrub sponge or intense chemicals. Since I’m working at a renaissance faire, this is a great product to remain in character while getting my food. It’s also just super cool!

Came as described. Caution, it is coated in an oil that you will need to wash off. Gave a 4 star rating due to the fact that the sheath leaves something to be desired. It does not hold items securely, & the knife is difficult to place so it doesn't damage the edge. It is a nice sheath other than that & a nice little rustic set. Good for decor, camping, larp, bush craft, cosplay, etc.

Just received my set today and after reading all the reviews, questions and answers I feel I need to add my opinion, for what it is worth. I've been involved in Living History for over 40 years, all different periods. I've handled and used any number of iron (and bare steel) implements from knives, to cooking pots to muskets. Anyway, the utensils are coated in oil to prevent rust, they are HAND FORGED not cast iron so they have a black coating on them from the forging process, it isn't the oil it won't kill you, though the oil is a bit dark. I washed mine off in hot soapy water and dried, don't scrub them. I put them in the oven on a cookie sheet at around 250 F for a while til they were dry - this will get rid of any water and help open the pores of the iron. I coated them with food grade mineral oil - you can find it at your local pharmacy, it is safe to consume, but you aren't going to be drinking it your just coating your eating utensils with it. Mineral oil will definitely help inhibit rusting along with the black forge coating. After use wash them and coat with a little more mineral oil. Olive oil is nice, but it could go rancid. Just wipe the oil off before using, not a big deal. I guess if you really wanted with a little work you could buff them shiny but I'm leaving mine "rustic". Lastly, the leather pouch is decent though I might make my own for my impression. If the pocket isn't loose enough to hold the knife, fork and spoon you can dampen the pocket a bit with water, don't soak it just a little slightly warm tap water run over it for a minute or two, it will soften the leather and you will be able to stretch it out a bit more to your liking, it won't hurt it. If you do this before you wash off the original oil you can put the utensils in to help shape it and let it dry with the utensils in it, or you can cover them with plastic wrap before inserting them. Decent quality. Fork actually looked a little better than in the picture; not as squared off where the tines T off and then bend down. Came with a sheath. It was VERY musty. Looks like it is in good shape, perhaps it is something in the tanning/manufacturing process? As others have mentioned the utensils come with a light coating of oil; a good thing. Not sure what the oil is so I wiped off what I could. Will burn the rest off and then recoat with something food grade and season like I do the cast iron skillets. The knife's edge is not the sharpest. But, for the price I can put some time on it with the stones and get it sharpened. We'll see how well it holds that edge. Edit to add... Spent about an hour on the knife correcting the bevel. The as-made bevel is WAY to wide. Putting a 30-degree angle to start. Spent most of the time with an extra coarse stone just thin the bevel down to 30 degrees. Will take a few more sessions with the sharpening stones to get the bevel down to a more reasonable angle. But for the price, I don't mind putting some time on it.

Bought this for my husband's pirate costume, it even had a leather pouch that went with it. I would not recommend ACTUALLY using these for what they were intended---these utensils still had the machine oil covering them to keep the rod iron from rusting. The oil stuff is difficult to clean off, so they were dried off as much as possible until we learn how to properly clean them. The pouch was hung off the waist belt either off to one side at the back or to one side in the front, so sitting down was not cumbersome. This looks like something a pirate of old would have had on his person, some persons back in that time had their own personal utensils like some people today have their own personal set of chop sticks (my husband and I have our own set of chop sticks). This is a great item to add to one's costume accessories. I highly recommend this for colonials, pirates, or any other type of person in that era that you are putting together costumes with accessories for. Solid and sturdy, and a great leather sheath to carry them in.

The leather pouch they come in is less than useless, don't know what it was designed to hold but it doesn't fit the utensils at all, the utensils themselves came with rust and giant scaly black chunks and some sort of oil that stunk, I scrubbed them thoroughly and treated them the same way I season my cast iron cookware it didn't work on these for whatever reason the rust came back within a matter of days, if you intend to use them plan on having some sort of rust removal tools on hand before each use

Very well made sturdy forged fork spoon and knife! A bit small but very useful and great quality. The are oil coated so don't be surprised when they arrive . This washes right off.

Although the case is rather cheap the cutlery set is wonderful

I had to put 1 star so I can write a comment... spoon ok, fork ok, knife Completely dull, and all of them came with rust...

These are solidly made and will last a long time, and will look great for my "pirate ship" sailboat. AS they are cast iron I did have to give them a good washing and condition them by rubbing with cooking oil and baking them. My only issue is that the sheath is only large enough to hold the knife, but not the fork and spoon. The knife does need a sheath as it is very sharp.
