The company's website states that the knives are made with Japanese made steel, and I can believe that. Though I've read that final construction takes place in China. I wouldn't let you let that put you as as to quality though as for the money they are very nice. I've bought some very expensive knives over the years and love using them. But when it comes to value for money this knife is hard to beat. Takes and holds a good edge and is well and thoughtfully assembled. Some folk say that it blunts easily. I would wonder if they're using that enemy of kitchen knives everywhere the dreaded glass chopping board. They will dull a knife in no time at all. If you do have one, use it as a plant stand or something and get a set of plastic chopping boards or better yet a quality wooden one. Your blades will thank you for it.

I just hone the edge with a steel, it is a narrow angle, probably 14° because of the blades thickness...then strop, sorted.
