Harry Potter: Film Wizardry gives readers a front row seat to the magical journey that brought J.K. Rowling's wizarding world to the big screen. Step off Platform Nine and Three Quarters and into the hidden world behind the scenes of the Harry Potter film series. Brian Sibley is the author of other bestselling behind-the-screen books, like The Lord of the Rings: The Making of the Movie Trilogy and The Land of Narnia . The book includes Producer's Diaries from the Harry Potter films' executive producer David Heyman. Review: Absolutely Spiffing Good Fun! - The 5 star reviews are spot on for this terrific addition to the Harry Potter world. I finally got a chance to see it in person last night and I will be ordering one for myself and another to give as a gift to my brother, who I think will appreciate it even more than I do. He & I were fortunate enough to visit the Harry Potter exhibit in Chicago last fall and, by choosing to go right after Illinois kids went back to school, we missed the crowds and were able to savor each costume, set and prop. (My favorite? The huge winged statue from the graveyard scene at the end of Goblet of Fire.) I even got to sit under the sorting hat! (Ravenclaw) Of course, there's a difference between seeing actual sets and props and in perusing pictures of them, but the creative minds responsible for putting this book together have done a fantastic job of making that difference as small as possible. The layout is exciting, the image quality (mostly) top notch and the extras - a Marauder's Map, a program from the Quidditch World Cup and another from the Yule Ball, among many, many others - are, IMHO, worth far more than the cover price on their own. (I was very tempted by the $35 Noble Marauder's Map when visiting the exhibit in Chicago, but chose to buy a nice replica of Harry's wand instead. Needless to say, I'm thrilled to get a Marauder's Map with this book even though I have to admit it's not quite as nice or as large as the one I passed up.) While I understand the temptation felt by some of the other reviewers to do so, I'm not in the least inclined to tear this book apart to decorate or for any other reason. Instead, I'm incredibly pleased to have all this great info and these pieces of memorabilia all together in one attractive and high-quality volume. This is a book to pull out often and to pore over slowly, enjoying each tidbit, the remembrances and comments from the actors, the details on costumes and sets and make-up. The scrapbook look and style suit it perfectly and I'm so glad to have it and grateful that so much care was taken in its creation. Very highly recommended. Question: Does anyone have information on the Harry Potter encyclopedia thingy J.K. Rowling has mentioned compiling for publication? I haven't heard anything for awhile and am wondering if it's going forward. Seeing the pictures of Dolores Umbridge in this book last night reminded me of how much I detested her and I was hoping Rowling would let us know that Umbridge met some terrible end or, better yet, suffered deeply for her repulsive behavior. Not that I'm bloodthirsty or anything... Okayfine, maybe I'm a *little* bloodthirsty. Review: Potterific! - I actually purchased Harry Potter Page to Screen: The Complete Filmmaking Journey before deciding to purchase this as well. The reason was that I did not realize this title was published (for some reason it slipped my HP radar), and it was only after I had perused the delights of page to screen that I realized this title was available as well. Initially, I wasn't sure how this would compare to Page to Screen since that is quite a hefty volume devoted to almost every conceivable detail regarding the HP movie franchise. The deciding factor for me was the fact that Film Wizardry also contained many inserts, pull-out books, pamphlets etc. that make for an interactive and engaging reading experience. I'd say both books are complementary. While Page to Screen provides more details on the movie-making process and covers just about everything (I say just about as there are some things not covered), Film Wizardry provides more of an overview with many fun elements thrown in for devoted fans such as the various foldouts and inserts. For example, in HP Film Wizardry, readers will get a chance to peruse a copy of the Marauder's Map, Harry's acceptance letter to Hogwarts, a catalogue from Borgin and Burke's, stickers in the Advanced Potion-Making pamphlet, two boxes of treats (sans the treats) from Honeydukes of Hogsmeade (you can tear them out and fold them into actual treat boxes, not that I would!), a Quidditch World Cup Programme, a copy of the Yule Ball Programme, Educational Decree No. 29, a product catalogue of Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, and a Ministry of Magic ID card. Such goodies are not to be found in Page to Screen, so I'd definitely recommend getting both books. Since I've had both books, I've been reading both in tandem, and comparing notes. It is such a wonderful, rewarding experience to read all the details that went into making the HP movies. After visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter last fall (I'd recommend that experience for all Potter fans, at least once), I've been missing that wonderful experience, but these two books certainly make up for it as I can relive the world of the HP movies anytime I feel like it!

Fantastic!
Back in 2007 when I wrote a review for a Harry Potter poster book, I bemoaned the lack of companion books for the Harry Potter films and wished that somebody would work on a serious "the-making-of " type of book for the HP movie series. So when I saw "Harry Potter Film Wizardry" on my Amazon's recommended future releases list last month, I went, "Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!" and now that I have the book in my hands, I say, "Finally!" This is the book that the Harry Potter films deserve and the one movie lovers have waited for. "Harry Potter Film Wizardry" covers the first six films and the first part of the Deathly Hallows. The behind-the scenes information and material contained in the book is probably a fraction of what seven films would generate, but Brian Sibley and the cast and crew managed to pick the most representative items from and the most memorable moments of each movie and filled the pages with photographs, sketches, storyboards, concept art and scenes from the films. This book is not only a delight to look at but also to touch. There is the letter addressed to "H. Potter, The Cupboard under the Stairs" to pull out from its envelope; Honeydukes candy boxes to punch out and assemble; the Yule Ball and the Quidditch World Cup programmes to admire, Proclamations to decorate your walls; the detailed Marauder's Map is ready for you to unfold, and there are a Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes product catalogue and the much more sinister Borgin and Burkes catalogue to pore over. These are, of course, clever and fun ways to present some of the props and ephemera created for the movies. "Harry Potter Film Wizardry" will keep any fan of the HP films happily reading (and admiring the pictures) for hours. It belongs on the shelf of anybody who enjoys the magic of the movies. As for me, this book is a wish come true.

An Interesting Book with some Novelty
Yule Ball Programs. Hogwarts Acceptance Letters. Potion Labels. Educational Degrees. The Marauder's Map. These are some of the things you get in this book, that is almost an encyclopedia about the movies. The book cover itself is embossed with pictures of some characters in the Harry Potter franchise. The first page makes it look like a Hogwarts student's book with a place for you to write your name, class and year. Probably enjoyable to younger readers. The book is filled with high quality photos of the cast, props, movie stills and other behind the scenes pictures. There are four introductions, one each by the three main cast members- Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, and one by the produce, David Heyman. The book is divided up by movies. Each section starts with a callsheet of the movie and if you look closely, you might be able to recognize what scene it is for. Whether these are real or fake, it still is a nice addition. Accompanying the callsheet is a note from the production designer, Stuart Craig's notebook, and the producer, Heyman's diary. With some pages that fold out and all the novelty prop replicas like the Marauder's Map, Educational Degrees, etc. it makes the book an interesting read. Don't be intimidated by the amount of text. It's written with simplicity and if you really like Harry Potter, you would be able to read through the text while enjoying the large pictures. The amount of information contained in this book is immense, and it will most likely take some time to really go through every detail of this book and to become a Harry Potter film geek. I would recommend this book to any Harry Potter fan, as it is extremely informing and fun to read. And it has some novelty to it.

Not Quite Five Stars for Me
I'm a huge Potter fan, so I feel weird giving four stars to a product so many other fans love, but I have a few issues with this book. Overall, it's beautifully done, with striking attention to detail, design-wise. The pages are all chock full of photos and sketches and little blurbs about everything. There are fold out pages with even more information, and reproductions of props like Harry's Hogwarts letter and the Yule Ball programme. Other reviews have described all of these things already, but they're awesome enough to be worth mentioning again. Still, I have my nitpicks. Number one: there are several typos. At one point, "Sorcerer's" is spelled "Sorceror's" and "Lockhart" is spelled "Lockheart." I'm used to seeing those sorts of typos on the internet, but in a professional book, it's unacceptable. Number two: some of the the props (including all of Umbridge's educational decrees) appear to have been caught in the glue of the envelopes they're stored in. I can't get them out of the envelopes without cutting them up, because they've been glued in there, and that's not something I want to do, of course. Pretty disappointing. The other thing is, a lot of this information is not new. If you're a fan who watches/reads lots of "behind the scenes" stuff, especially the documentaries on the Ultimate Editions, you'll have seen a quite few of these interviews before. Also, since it was made before Deathly Hallows Part II came out, it's not really complete, either. I guess you can blame me for buying this before DH2 came out, though. I don't regret buying it or anything (it is indeed a pretty cool book!), but I wish it were a little bit more than it is. I'm really looking forward to Harry Potter Page to Screen: The Complete Filmmaking Journey, which comes out in October, and looks like it'll be even better.

A complete list of "inserts" included with the book...
Everyone seems to agree that this is a fantastic book, myself included. One of my favorite aspects of the book is that the information is presented in a unique style that reminds me of a scrapbook, and includes a variety of fold-outs and inserts. Some of these inserts can be removed from the book (for example, in case you wanted to display something on your wall). The following is a list of all the "inserts" included within the book: Harry's invitation letter to Hogwarts Borgin & Burkes catalog Advanced Potion Making manual (with stickers) Hogsmeade Product cut-outs Quidditch World Cup event program Yule Ball program 4x Umbridge's Educational Decrees Marauder's Map Weasley's Wizard Wheezes product catalog Ministry of Magic ID Card This is a great book for Harry Potter fans. However, I should point out that there is another book that is a larger and more complete look at the whole series: Harry Potter Page to Screen: The Complete Filmmaking Journey . The Film Wizardry doesn't include Deathly Hallows Part II, so you may want to wait for this new book, which has more content related to the final film. Of course, it doesn't hurt to own both books!

Did you grow up with Harry Potter, I DID TOO!
I am a college student, and I like this book for what it is. If you own all the HP movies with the 2nd disc and have watched all the bonus content than this is your book. It has at least 8 inserts within that you could pull out physically and stickers. If you are a collector of all things HP this is a must. If you are looking for a nice little gift for someone then just get it, if they are half of a Harry Potter fan they will appreciate this as a gift or deserve to be disowned. This isnt 160 pages of I NEVER KNEW THAT, but its 160 pages of "Thats funny, I knew it, so thats what Rons Grandma looks like, and things along that nature." It gives you closer looks at things half expressed in videos and things you kind of notice hidden througout the movies. I am not by any means the biggest HP fan, but I read all the books within the first two days of getting them , and have watched all of the movies in theatre. I support the HP franchise and this one is worth having on the shelf, and if your a scrapbook-er, have fun because there are pages a plenty to take out things. I will note, that the inserts are not "perfect replicas" but more like copies of reasonable mention. They are on decent paper with printed texture and they are nice enough to where you can put them about your room or on a wall, but not so nice that you need to encase them in glass and put a 3 headed dog as a guard. Very nice Christmas(Holiday) present for someone or B-day, and take my word for it, you can't go wrong letting people experience the magic behind and within the HP world and this book does just that and will give someone some definite moments of contentment. Sincerely, The Minnesotan Muggle

True Muggle Magic
When I first saw this book online I wanted it immediately. I instantly fell in love with it and I had never even touched it! So when I finally ordered it I became I bit afraid because, for one: the price is not so low and two: I'm such a huge Harry Potter fan and was already expecting this book to be amazing, I did NOT want to be dissapointed. Once my book finally arrived, all those thoughts went away. The packaging itself thrilled me! Of course, probably like any other person that has this book, the first thing I did after tearing out the plastic that sealed the book, I went straight to the facsimiles. From Harry's 1st Hogwarts letter, and Potion stickers to the 422nd Quiditch World Cup Programme and (my favorite) the Marauder's map. Discovering every one of these products inside the book was the best eperience as a Harry Potter fan. Once I was done with all my excitement, I began reading it. I was absolutely amazed. The book was so fun, detailed and impressive that I finished reading it that same night. As a true Harry Potter fan, you won't be dissapointed with this book.

A must have for every Potter fan(atic)!
I pre-ordered this book and it arrived today, and I cannot emphasize the amount of work and thought that went into its creation! There is one surprise after another with each turn of the page, and enough content to remain engaging throughout multiple reads (not unlike Rowling's literary masterpieces that inspired these films). Not to mention the preview images for the yet-to-be-released Deathly Hallows films! It is well worth the money for anyone who loves Harry Potter as much as I do! A big thanks to Warner Brothers and Brian Sibley from a ridiculously enormous fan!
