Better than writing by hand.
Got this to replace an older model. The older model was still working, but was on a XP computer and we no longer had the Disk to load the program on a newer machine. And the web sight did not have it either. I Was able to transfer the old addresses to the new Database, so did not have to manually redo them. Also the old printing tape is the same as the new model, so able to use that also. It's been working great. Little different in how you get it to print. Think the old way was better. One button to print! This is two steps. But it does Print smooth. You can Print Left, Center, or right on the Label. We Use ours mainly to print envelope addresses. We don't send too many letters, so the Print roll lasts a long time. Not sure how many labels you can make, but was Guessing 200.

My Previous One Was About 15 Years Old
I had a Seiko SSII label printer. It just stopped working in the middle of a label. I checked all the usual and came to the conclusion it was just done. I have a lot of label materials for that printer, so I wanted another just like my old one.I went looking for a used one on e-bay. Much to my shock and amazement, an old one costs nearly as much as a brand new one. That was also when I realized that my old label printer was from 1999. I was using Windows 98SE then. After I determined that my existing supply of labels would fit a new printer, I ordered the 620.When I upgraded to Windows 7 in 2010, I upgraded the Seiko software. When I loaded the new software, it converted my labels file. I was surprised, but happy, of course. The new software compared to the old is as night and day. Wow, how the software has grown up! The new stuff is in color, and you can do so much more with it. As someone mentioned, it is much easier to load the labels in the printer. My printer is white, whereas it looks grey in the picture. I always loved my old Seiko label printer, and now I love this one too. I hope it lasts as long as the old one did.

Not for Mac El Capitan!! New software is designed for Windows, help desk dismissive of Mac. Had to send it back.
I have been very happy with my other Seiko label printer for several years. But the software I've been using is now incompatible with El Capitan and unusable. I has spent a couple of hours trying to figure out how my Mac's settings had gone wrong, only to find it's Seiko who abandoned me and my Mac. The short instruction sheet included in the box refers repeatedly to the old Mac software which doesn't work on El Capitan. So I foolishly bought this new model, which uses entirely rewritten software. I've had nothing but trouble since, as the software borders on incomprehensible and unusable. In addition, all my old labels are incompatible and there's no conversion method, so I've lost everything. There is a handful sample templates, but they are ugly, cluttered, and need reworking to make them useful. The online help people only have access to Windows PCs and are unable to help. They keep referring to the new software's help file, but that only shows Windows dialog boxes which bear no resemblance to what I see on my Mac screen. I tried to add a USPS barcode to a label I laboriously created, only to be told I have to build an entire database to do so. Now the software won't recognize my USB/network connected printer, which worked fine with the previous software. In addition, the online help staff's attitude is that one of unconcealed contempt for my woes. I'm quite disappointed and am shipping the printer back to Amazon. I'll just use Avery label sheets on Word; at least Avery provides plenty of easy-use templates for download.

Works s it suppose to
I am replacing 400 series label printer with this new product. It works flawlessly and easy to setup. It is also faster than the older version I have used for a decade. Definitely recommend this label maker.

It is a fine label printer
I have used a Brother Q series label printer for a couple of years and tried this one for home because of the price point. It is a fine label printer. Prints both regular address labels and shipping labels with or without barcode. You can use the shipping label template to make packaging/storage/archive label template. In some ways the is easier to use the Seiko for that one-of label because it can be created using the same software as that which prints labels from your address book. It doesn't work that way in the Brother system. Your address book is one piece of software and your editor is another, so this is a plus for the Seiko. What is not is a Brother Q series label print which not only can print several different sizes of labels but can print on continuous tape (was not able to find continuous label tape for the Seiko). This allows you to make long labels for archive/storage boxes or if you need large banner type labels with 2 in high letters. So yes, you can make storage box labels but they are limited to 2.25 x 4. With the Brother you could make one that was 2.25 x 10 for 1 box. 2.25 x 15 for another with different information on it. We use this all the time at work for our storage boxes. For home/office this printer is fine. More than adequate for your labeling needs and beats trying to run your envelope through your printer. Or sheets of labels most of which are wasted and which can come lose when passing through the printer, ruining or causing much frustration trying to clean the stuck labels out of the guts of the printer. The Seiko is easy to install, so is the Brother. Rolls are easy to insert and fairly easy to change out from standard labels to mailing labels.... not as easy as a Q series but not a problem. Brother can do the postage thing and I've not found that ability for the Seiko. 4 stars - would have been 5 if it had the ability to print on continuous tape, which people do not know they need the ability to print until they don't have it. Bottom line if I were buying for an office I would go with the Brother. For home or light duty office, this one is more than suitable. Forgot to add: If your office needs to generate colored file folder labels, they can be found for the Seiko. I have yet to find a source for colored file folder labels for the Brother. I solve this by using colored magic markers when needed in my office, however that wouldn't be a viable solution in some offices, so if this is an important requirement for your office, then I would recommend the Seiko.

A great improvement!
I have used Seiko Label Printers for several years. The last one I owned (#420) had serious design flaws: the label compartment was fiendishly difficult to open, and feeding the labels into the printer to start a roll was awful - reaching around behind the printer, trying to insert the end of the roll into an invisible slot, and often seeing 1/2 a label emerge. I was hopeful when this new model was announced. I ordered it through Amazon and recieved it the next day. When I installed the software from the included CD it imported all of my labels from the previous address book, including the images used on some. Loading new labels is fantastically easy: Insert the roll into the compartment and run the label leader into a little slot in the compartment, in plain view. The roll feeds smoothly and cleanly. This means that I can change sizes (ie: Address, Shipping, etc.) in a snap - something I never bothered with in the older model due to the difficulty. There is a choice of interface colors, label sizes, fonts, etc., making this the perfect tool for home and/or office. My only question to Seiko is: What took you so long to improve this product? I would certainly recommend the #620 to anyone who wants to print labels for any and all purposes.

Great printer, lousy software
I have had a couple of these Seiko printers and they are great, but they apparently did a new release of the software that won't read older labels and doesn't offer any conversion, so several hundred labels are not accessible Very little useful info is available on the website -- looks like they cram it with promo talk to make it impossible to find relevant info re:older labels.

Poor and poorly informed customer service
Have used Seiko label printers at work for years, they work fine. Bought the 620 and installed it at home, but had problems getting the labels to print - they would print, and then advance a label-and-a-half each time, I couldn't get them to do the initial feed, or stop after printing, at the correct place. Couldn't find this problem in the manual or on trouble-shooting tip sites, so called customer service. He had me check the labels and look for a black box on the back, which he told me would tell the printer where to stop - no black box. He told me this is why it was feeding incorrectly. I told him I'd used Seiko label printers at work for years, and used the same labels (I'd taken this roll from the supply closet at work (not employee theft as I own the business), and they always worked fine. He kept telling me repeatedly that it needed a black box, and he couldn't tell me why they worked fine at work - I was frustrated as what he was telling me didn't match what I knew. Then he hung up on me - I told him I was frustrated at his repeating what I knew didn't match what I saw every day - my exact words - but I was not profane, yelling, or disrespectful. I've never been hung up on by a customer service rep before, so I was shocked. Hunted around some more and found an older site that told me the answer. We've been using our Seiko label printers at work for years, and they must be older models. Seiko apparently programmed a feature into their newer models that require a black box on the back, so you can't use labels for the older printers in this newer printer, you have to order them special from Seiko. I wonder if they're more expensive? But why the customer service rep didn't have that as one of his up-front solutions, I have no idea. I was not impressed. And now I have to buy special expensive labels from Seiko rather than just getting the generic cheaper labels that have worked fine at work for years. Not pleased with Seiko, their rep, or his training. Note: Once I bought the much-more-expensive Seiko labels, it works fine. So there's that.
