Updated in 2019, this book introduces the topic of HR analytics and the business value it can create. A brief history of HR analytics is provided along with the topic of selecting metrics to encourage desired business outcomes. Dashboard design and the two most popular tools for custom-made dashboards are presented. Practical examples are described that are easy for a beginner to understand. Some of the challenges of introducing analytics and building analytics teams are discussed. This book is not intended to teach mathematics, statistics, or scripting languages used in analytics. It is intended for a non-mathematical audience to understand the value of HR analytics. It is not designed to educate the expert that conducts the analysis. The author offers a self-paced, online class with hands-on practice assignments at: https://academy.numericalinsights.com/hr-analytics-people-analytics-101-using-excel Review: easy to read and very informative - I ordered the paperback book and used the kindle match on desertcart to purchase the kindle book for $2.99. I just finished the kindle book, 2 days after purchasing! I believe that says a lot about the book. I enjoyed reading it and the information was very well organized. The author has a very clear and concise writing style which is very much appreciated for an analytical book where concepts can easily become unclear. Thank you! Review: Practical guide for a nebulous topic - Analytics is a buzzword, but the author does a good job staying away from consulting-speak and focusing on the elements that make up and will determine the success of your analytics endeavors. She seamlessly weaves in workforce planning and other hot topics to show that analytics can materially impact how you approach HR. Would have loved some case studies or an action plan.

Practical guide for a nebulous topic

too high level
I was looking forward to the read... And was very disappointed. Indeed the book barely brushes on the topics, does not provide any insights that are truly actionable. Also, most of the HR challenges that are used as examples are out of date in the sense that (which the author agrees) they are changing very fast. Using old fashioned examples to demonstrate the value of something that helps organizations in the future creates a impression of lack of insight and research. There are also here and there mistakes about HR and the current trends in tech. Most companies are not really aiming at having analytical departments nowadays. Instead they are focusing on putting in place tools that will allow the business to make its own analysis based on their needs. And truly that is the point. I will look for another source to learn more...

This book is a great foundational book about HR Analytics. If that is what you're looking for, you will not be disappointed.

Not worth the price
Terrible book, do not waste your time. I felt like she was talking down to me the whole time. Spend your money on a book that will actually provide information.

Its ok
Vastly overpriced for the content. But a reasonably good read non the less. It has a few useful ideas to consider.

Too simplistic, even for beginners, in my opinion.
I'm no expert on HR, but to me there was nothing that wasn't absolutely obvious in this book. The examples of HR metrics seemed just too simplistic to be useful examples of real-world metrics (eg employee retention/ engagement), and the most sophisticated analysis technique was straight line analysis, as in, eg if you plot employee retention against training days, is there something like a straight line relationship. The author uses the proper term, regression analysis, but then seems to make a big song and dance about how sophisticated a technique it is, especially with such a fancy name. I have to be fair: I gave up about 2/3 way through but it didn't look like anything more sophisticated was going to happen.
