I figured sewing was a skill I should probably learn, and just purchased my first sewing machine. I bought several books to go along with my machine, as I wasn't sure where to begin. I paged through most of them and grew intimidated by the sometimes undefined words, or instructions without enough images for me to grasp what needed to be done. This was the one book out of the four I purchased that I read from cover to cover immediately. This book is perfect for people like me, who have never sewn a stitch, or been around someone who has. I felt intimidated after unboxing my machine, but this book made me feel confident enough to begin my first project. In short, if you've never done a thing with sewing before and want to learn, this is the book you should start with. The images are clear, the directions are precise, and it goes into enough detail that I felt like I could progress without feeling frustrated.

Nice book, not as described. I ordered the spiral one as pictured, which would be easier for me to use. The one I received was bound. I rated it 4 since it is a good to use to teach just not what it said it was.

All color with clear and concise directions. Very useful as i haven’t touched a sewing machine since HomeEc some 55 years ago…it all comes back, just a bit more slowly.

As I help my granddaughter learn to sew, this book helped me to refresh my skills and it will help her to better understand many of the tools used to complete a project. Very helpful.

This is an ok book for a beginner, but not what I was hoping for. I bought it for my daughter-in-law, who is just learning to sew. The first part of the book will be helpful, because it explains some basic techniques, but the second half of the book is just a lot of projects that may or not be helpful, like making a pillow. I will keep the book because of the first half, but will probably look for another, more comprehensive sewing book for her for the long run.

I'm glad I found this book and wasn't let down by all of the other positive reviews. This book is Absolutely TOP NOTCH!! On-and-off over the past several years, I've seen other books and watched numerous videos than claimed to be for beginners but, oftentimes they'd start out fine but, would eventually end up using terms, techniques, and equipment that were just assumed to be familiar. But, this book REALLY goes back to the Basics for TRUE "beginners" who have absolutely no experience nor exposure to sewing. And, then it gives a few very simple projects to use with the information already shared in the book. The authors, photographers, editors, and publishers... basically anyone who had anything to do with this book's existence... they all deserve free lifetime supplies for all of their sewing projects!!

Everything you will read here you can find it online because it is just a basic thing to know. But the book is well made.
