teriffic usb drive
i have a 320gb unit and needed a higher capacity unit for my work laptop. the 1TB unit is very fast and i can attest to the fact that backups are quicker now than with the 1TB WD unit that had to be replaced. Another nice feature is that is slips into the laptop bag while the WD unit (the book) was difficult to travel with. The ability to withstand dropping means it will take a beating in the laptop bag without any problems. my 320gb unit is 4 years old and still working so I have no trouble believing this 1TB unit will last a long long time.04/30/2013 Updated Review -- the unit 'may' require power because the USB ports on most laptops and some desktops do not have the juice to run a 1TB drive. But you can get one relatively cheap at Amazon or other retail outfits. I tried the Y connector route but my Dell Latitude E6510 sniffed it out sometimes but not all the time. As soon as I plugged in the powered USB hub, it sniffed it out immediately. But to be sure, these Transcend drives are wonderful...between bouncing around in my laptop bag and the TSA folks taking it out and looking it over (because of the wires sticking out of it), and I dropped it 2x, it still works.

As promised
rugged and sturdy, fires up quickly, although does not work with a single USB connection (ie you will need to carry around yet another cable)

Backing up a dying PC
My beloved computer of only 5 years is dying a slow death, and when I realized it was worse than just a little issue I knew I needed a reliable USB drive to back up all of my data. When my mom's last computer was having severe issues (the thing was a piece of junk), I bought her basically the same USB drive, just smaller in GB. I was impressed with her drive, and I had done my research before I bought it so I knew I picked a good one. But I needed more space for my files, so I went for the 1 TB drive. So far I have had no trouble aside from what I assume is my own computer's problems. I use Microsoft's SyncToy for backup (have used it for years) and my computer automatically backs itself up on this USB once a day, with a few important folders (pictures and my college assignments) more times throughout the day (those also get backed up elsewhere too, just in case). The only issue I've had was the computer no longer seeing the drive, but that is easily fixed by unplugging the USB and plugging it back in. I'm pretty sure I've only had this happen after my computer comes out of sleep mode, but like I said: my PC is dying, so I'm thinking it is likely the front USB ports causing the problem and not the drive. I don't remember having this trouble when the drive was plugged in the back of my computer, leading me to believe it is the front ports, but I also didn't allow my computer to sleep then either. The experiences I've had with Transcend products over the years have been great, so I recommend them, and this drive is doing what I needed it to do. If you are in need of a USB drive for the same reason, all I can say is this is a good one. However, no matter what drive you buy to use for backup, don't use the software that comes with it because it almost always sucks.

It can be powered by my tablet, unlike USB 3.o external drives
Most people are getting newer USB 3.0 external hard drives, but my Asus T100 tablet cannot power those devices (I have two that I cannot currently use), so I was pleased to find an USB 2.0 external hard drive that is 1 TB. I am now able to use this with my Asus T100 tablet with no problems -- my tablet can power this drive without any issues. I like the design with the colorful accents, which give the device an extra bit of style. It's been about 4 hours, and no problems with reliability or durability.

Stopped working
I saw the good reviews and bought it...however, in a few months, it stopped working. Ie, when I plug it in, it isnt recognized by the computer. I then kept is aside for a few weeks (an expensive paperweight), and then, all of a sudden, it works! But, only for a few weeks, and then, back to the same situation. The light on it does come on, so the cable is working, and I can feel the mild humming when I hold it. But the computer does not recognize it at all. So, its back to being an expensive paperweight.

Most durable hard drive ever.
I've been deployed in Afghanistan for seven months and this thing has been through a lot. It still works perfectly and I've never had an issue with it. Definitely a good investment for the peace of mind that you'll have not having to worry about losing all of your data.

MY REVIEW
The backup drive works flawlessly. The drive fits my laptop perfectly. I dropped it once and it is still working without problems as advertised.

Wonderful
I am the worlds worst when it comes to going through external hard drives (I go through them every 3 - 6 months) part of it is my fault, I am a little hard on them because I don't always think about them being delicate when I put them in my bag to go to class (and I need a decent size one for all my stuff for college)I bought this as a last ditch effort figuring that if it lives up to the Drop standards it claims then it wont be a loss and if I do successfully kill this one... I need to give up the idea of ever having a hard drive. This has lived up to my standards and then some!! I have not needed a case for it at all and it has to go through some hard use. I have just bought the 1 TB with the 3.0 USB compatibility in it because I have a new laptop with the 3.0 in it and need the faster transfer speeds but I am passing this along to my mom for her stuff. It's a wonderful brand that lives up to everything it says!

Prima Preis- Leistungsverhältnis
Prima Festplatte.
