My Go To for self healing.
This is a superb book rich in insights. I've had the original on my bookshelf for years and is my "go to" for unravelling causes of ailments. Its not an easy read as it can involve confronting parts of ourselves we are in denial about. For example i once discovered that an ailment I had (which became a year long bought of tonsilitis in my body) was largely due to me hating my boss at work. I was in denial of this because I was trying to hard to be "nice" and "kind". Once i found harmless and healthy ways to vent my angry and despising feelings the tonsillitis rapidly cleared up. Some years later it came back due to a similar cause and cleared up again on venting and resolving the feelings. Highly recommended. (Louise Hay"s You Can Heal Your Life had v helpful affirmations for specific ailments which I also use.)

Not an easy read, but worth the effort
While some a few of the authors' ideas may not have stood the test of time, there is much of value here.

One of my favourite books.. ever.
I absolutely love this book, its very insightful and very practical. I love the way I always find something amazing, that I had never considered within its pages (and I have read many similar style books as a Complementary Practitioner). The bases of the book is how our physical symptoms are a manifestation of what is going on in other levels, but its written not in a Louise Hay approach at all (which at times I found a little too 'new-age' for me), but in a practical and grounded way which is accessible to anyone, often referring to the clues in the phrases we use within the English language. I agree with the last reviewer, its a book that everyone should read, especially those involved in the health care profession. I would give it a 5 though it doesn't cover everything that I would have liked to have seen. But it does a great job of what is there.

A fresh look at illness
Reading this book, particularly the first part, has given me a fresh view on understanding illnesses. The second part is fascinating and I now have a much better understanding (and tolerance) of those friends of mine who are constantly complaining of minor ailments.

A Practical Application of "The Challenge of Fate"
Wow, such an amazing book. If anyone has read "The Challenge of Fate" before this, then I am sure you noticed how perfectly this book compliments the first. While "Fate" challenged you with groundbreaking theory, this new book actually takes some theory from "Challenge" and spends an entire book, in great detail, explaining how, we must awaken from the world of duality to accomplish something concrete as "health". This book is almost a scientific approach to Zen Buddhism. I am also reading "Dropping Ashes on the Buddha" and these two books seem to match exactly. While zen attempts to deal with the problem of duality in ritualistic fashion, Dethlefsen and Dahlke go into scientific analogies to show the existence of dualism and it's impact upon our lives. Plus, how to move beyond it. Beyond a world of light/dark, male/female, fast/slow, cold/hot, etc. etc. Basically, this book is a practical application of the fundamental concepts of zen buddhism. The more of our nature we deny, the more builds up on other levels that ultimately spill over onto the physical plane and thus "cause" disease. This book is a MUST read for anyone who questions exactly "why" things are, the way they are. It will soon become apparent that the answers are correct, we are simply asking the wrong questions.

A different perspective
The book is well written and gets us pondering over the efficacy of medications for all health issues. It is definitely worth thinking about and gives an insight into the psychological causes of symptoms. Very interesting indeed, worth reading and observing the truth of the idea around us.
