The mic is great, but Rode customer service is better
I bought this mic from a 3rd party seller on amazon. I believe Rode might have had a bad batch though as mine stopped working in like 2 days. I sent it off to Rode and they sent me a brand new one with no hassles whatsoever and they rushed it when I told them I had a job I needed it for. I didn't buy their extended warranty or anything, this was strictly off contacting them and asking them about it. I had to send them my receipt from Amazon but at that point I think it was already 6 months old in terms of time from purchase to use. They didn't question me, they didn't give me the run around, they didn't even try to replace just one piece or something...they just sent me a new one. I've had a few interactions with Rode and they've always been very courteous and their equipment is excellent value. As for this mic...my ONLY beef is that it does seem relatively delicate. IT'S NOT, but it sure feels it. Of course, you should always treat a higher end mic with a lot of care, so perhaps it's a good thing that it "feels" delicate. The hard case is a wonderful addition and my only suggestion to rode would be to make it easier to get the tie clip on and off without having to unscrew one of the micon connectors. Update: I have since been using this mic a lot more and I have to tell you - the sound quality is excellent when A/Bed against just about anything I can get my hands on. I'm sure there are better "pro" mics out there, but here you're starting to get into the law of diminishing returns if you ask me. I am using this with a Sennheiser G3 wireless kit and it's pretty incredible how much more natural and "warm" this mic sounds versus the ME 2 (stock) microphone. The difference isn't subtle, it's pretty much night and day. My only continued beef is that there's not much "stress relief" on the micon connector so I'm constantly worried (maybe it's strong enough by design) that it's going to eventually short. I guess time will tell. This is year 2 and still going strong.

Too much hiss
This microphones required phantom power and that makes it give off too much hiss. I bought this to record an interview but when I listened to the audio there was a noticeable hissing. I have to turn down the volume on my h4n but there was still some hissing. This microphone is selling at a premium price but this is not a premium product. This should be sold for no more than $50. I will not ever purchase a mic that needs phantom power because that only introduces more hiss into the sound. A lapel that uses a battery is better.

ROde Lav mic review
I purchased the Rode Lav mic with 2 purposes in mind. The first was to ultimately use it for presentations with a wireless set up back into a Line 6 L2T speaker. I haven't decided on the wireless setup yet... either the Line 6 VD-75 or the Shure GLDX1 setup. Initially I wanted to use it at home going through a Presonus 44VSL for learning recording and for Skype purposes instead of using the mic in the Webcam. In order to do that I needed to purchase the Rode XLR adapter. The XLR adapter drops the 48 volts down to 5 so the Rode Lav can handle it. I will also need the Micon connector that will allow it to go to the Shure or Line 6 wireless pack... They use the same connector. The mic sounds good. No complaints as to the sound. My only concern is the thinness of the cable and how it screws to the different adapters. It just seems very delicate. You have to be very deliberate with how you handle it... If you are rough with things it might not be the best choice for you .... But then again... even if the cable breaks at the connector... its just the cable.. the mic would still work fine... so it would just be a situation where you would need a new cable. The idea to have different connectors is great one. If you purchase a hardwired lav to a specific connector .. that's all its ever going to be. But with this it gives you a ton of flexibility.

Cable is not detachable from the capsule any more
Rode silently changed the design. You cannot detach the cable from the capsule any more. The manual I received still describes this feature, but Rode support confirmed that the cable is hardwired to the capsule in the new version. The pictures and descriptions on Amazon are not correct. Other than that, the mic is good.

Best Lav for the price.
Best lavalier I've used. I've been filming for 7 years and would recommend this mic at this price over any other option.

Clear, high-quality sound. Short cord. Additional purchases needed.
Purchased this microphone for our office at the recommendation of our MarComms team. This mic allows for high-quality sound and is easy to use. Be sure to purchase the "Rode MiCon-2 Connector for 3.5mm Select Stereo Devices" if you plan on using this in DSLRs or phone jacks. The only downside is that the cord is SO short--only about 4 feet long. You have to be uncomfortable close to the subject you are recording, and the mic is visible in the shot. Be sure to purchase a cord extender as well.

Not what I expected from Rode at this Price..
Picture and Manual states mic and cable are detachable which doesn't seems the case to be. Cable shown with Gold metal connector ends. Actually, it has Black Plastic end. Much cheaper feel and look from Rode. Looks counterfeit. Very Disappointed. Still waiting for overpriced MiCon-2 connector.

This is a quality product and well packaged too.
I was looking at getting a really good Lavalier mic to use with a decent field recorder. There are some very nice mics out there like the Tram TR50 and the Countryman B6 but I loved the sound of this and the price seemed reasonable. The Quality is very good in my opinion, having used it for V.O. work and for mainly short films. I always use a shotgun mic too so I guess this is useful for long distance shots (wireless setup), I know it won't beat a decent shotgun mic on its own but when you use it with a shotgun mic it works very well. Also ideal for insurance with your dialogue incase the boom operator makes a mistake while cueing the talent etc. Overall I really like this lav mic, it has a nice quality sound to it. It may be slightly inferior to the Sanken Cos11D but that's harder to get hold of this side of the Atlantic and comes at a greater cost. The clips are decent enough too as are the windshield/furry that comes with it. The RODE in my opinion beats most of the other competition. Thats not to say the others were bad. just this was really good. I think these RODE mics will start appearing in many a sound recordist kit bag. The ability to change the adaptor end is so very very useful. After testing a few pro mics i'd say overall its the best for this price range. But remember not all mics do the same job, other mics might be better in certain situations. Still this is a decent one to own for sure.
