can this be used on medium length hair?

Yes, I think so. I have long straight, fine hair and it works even on it. The "clip" (like a regular curling iron) is shorter and makes styling a lot easier than a traditional wand. (No burnt fingers!) One caution - have a regular curling iron as back-up because this can leave little kink marks in your curl if left on hair too long/too hot. I use a regular curling iron or wand to smooth out those parts of the curls.

How much time does it take to make a single curl? (I am trying to compare with Conair Infinity Pro which takes between 8 and 12 sec). Thank you!

The higher the setting the faster the curl. I love this thing. It's been a real time saver. The price is quite good and mine arrived in 2 days.

How do you curl the left side of your head??

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but I just go around the head and curl everything the same direction all the way around the head. This is hands down the best curling iron I have ever used. Hair stays curled perfectly without even using hairspray. And the second day the curl relaxes just a little for perfect beach waves.
