DEWALT Step Drill Bit, Impact Ready, 1/8-Inch-1/2-Inch (DWA1783IR)

I picked up this bit from a recommendation I saw on a YouTube channel which tested various bits like these. I have to say that the findings that the YouTube video stated were right on point with my experience. I needed to drill some holes for in a 1/8" piece of steel I was making some brackets out of and this bit cut through them like butter. Highly recommend using with a drill press though.

Long lasting easy to use. Spiral cut makes it a little harder to stop at a specific size because it’s almost self feeding but less blow out on the other side of the hole and smoother drilling. If you run these 1/2 speed they last a lot longer than just trying to run them full blast every hole.

This thing is so good for popping through duct and sheet metal. I’m an HVAC technician and I have to do a lot of airflow testing with probes and this is an amazing little tool to have. As opposed to using standard drill bits that tend to get hot and concave sheet metal, it’s tiny enough to quickly pop through and get bigger holes started long before any real heat buildup. One of my favorite tools in my bag, 5 stars.

Drills steel as a butter. I never had this bit before, but after I tried it’s a must have for my campervan project. Worth the price. Size is perfect as well. --- UPDATE after about half year and less then 30 holes I down rated it to 4 stars: One step became dull after I drilled steel bed frame. Now every time I drill it stuck on that particular step. Other steps works still like butter. Of course it still much better then cheap junk, but I rarely use it and don't want to pay another $16.

Use it often, really like the bit.

The slow taper makes it easier to get the hole size you want, and makes it possible in thicker material. Can also use to grind out a slotted shape, if needed. Cuts very fast.

A bit pricey but it looks like it will last comparing with the alternative cheaper solutions
