Review: Good place to start - I started on guitar about two months ago and gathered more than a dozen books and many online articles. After looking over all that material, I settled on Carter's Fretboard Mastery (and went back and skimmed his Guitar for Beginners). He is sensible and informative. He offers excellent practical advice and enough theory to make the lessons not seem random. I still hungered for more theory and am now reading his Music Theory: From Absolute Beginner to Expert. Again, I gathered half a dozen books on music theory, most geared specifically to guitar, and sampled them. Carter's was the most satisfying. He cut through the seemingly arbitrary set of schematic patterns and explained the grounding of scales and chords in the physics of sound (via intervals). Very satisfying. Review: A good book for beginners - A pretty good book, but they never end on true last note. This book is extremely helpful to the beginner guitarist. Thank for for reading my post hope it was helpful. Thanks Again, Nancy S.

Excellent guitar mastery book!
As a guitar player myself, I can say this is one of the best books on this topic I've ever read. Not only teaches A TON on information but the structure is really great. No complicated or fuzzy chapters, really clear. It cover finding notes throughout the fretboard, learning the major scale (super important for a guitar player) with its different shapes, putting them in practice, mastering the chords (not only the open ones or easy ones but other shapes on the fretboard) and much more. You can immediately see the Author explains all the subject from his own words and that makes the book really simple to follow. This book makes a perfect complement to the previous one he created. You might want to read this book if you are willing to improve your understanding in this subject, worth every penny.

Great Book - stays exactly true to the title.
This book is well written and amazingly thorough. I think some musical background may be needed, but the author also has a beginner's book. I've been wanted to take up guitar again after many years away from it - this book explains everything clearly. I thought the 'mind bending note finding' visualization game to be an intriguing way to up your skills. The author is very descriptive and obviously well versed in music theory.

If you are just starting to learn the guitar, you need to read this book!!!!
I bought this book (kindle) for $2.99 at our favorite book store...Amazon. I have to admit at first I wasn't expecting too much. This is probably the best beginner guitar book I have in my library. If you are just beginning you need to read this book. Nicholas is a guitar player and at the beginning of this book he tells the reader what you should learn on the guitar in a logical progression. His writing style is very easy and it is like he is talking directly to you. Excellent beginners book!!!!

The theory you need
Nicolas has a unique way to explain all you need to know to play the guitar as a pro even if you are at the beginning of the journey. This book covers the theory you need and then a hands on approach. Nice and easy reading. This book doesn't require previous knowledge about music theory but I think you need to know some in order to take the best out of it

Beautiful and consistent
This book had everything I needed for my music theory. Even though I'm an intermediate fingerstyle guitar player I lacked the theory that went along with it. For anyone trying to comprehend how music theory works on the guitar, this is probably one of the best books out there! Kudos to the writer
