Klipsch RF-82 II Floorstanding Speaker - Black Ash (Each)

These are excellent speakers. I had a set of Infinity RSMs for over 25 years and always loved the flat response and full sound. Gave them to my brother for his studio when the woofer suspension needed replacing again. I had some JBL 3 way floor standing and was never really happy with the sound. These RF-82 II ref series floorstanding speakers more than met my expectations. Sounded great without any eq. Bumped up the highs and lows and noticed a lack of fullness in the mids at set volume. So, duh, I only increased the very lowest bass and highest treble sliders on my eq. Perfecto. I like just a touch more heavy lows and crystal clear cymbals in the mix (I'm 56) - but be careful not to over eq. I still have a JBL 12" 250 watt sub, which sounds fine (although after buying these RF-82 II's, the ref series Klipsch sub is mighty tempting... Still working to get the JBL sub crossover set where it should be, but all together, this sounds incredible. They need some power to drive them though. You won't get the sound you want with a 35 to 45W stereo amp. They are not as efficient as the Infinities and JBL's were, but when you listen, you'll know why. I advise a minimum of 75 to 80w/channel for stereo listening - minimum. My Harman Kardon amp supplies 120w/channel, so you can imagine my pleasure with this set up. The titanium driven horns are incredible - highs are crisp and flat, yet full. The mid range (mix of horn and woofer output) is just as incredible - flat and full sounding. What I like about the lows and the ported woofers is I get that punch (flat) from the kick drum (I'm an over the hill drummer), and cover the sub-bass with my JBL subs, which add richness - but be careful with the crossover, and the volume level of the subs. I would recommend these speakers to anyone that has a taste for the best at affordable price range. Well done Klipsch - my hat is off to you, as it was when I heard Cornwalls the first time.

The Klipsch RF-82 ii is quite simply an amazing floor-standing loudspeaker for the price. The level of detail and dynamics cannot be beat at this price range, and they are perfect for both home theater and 2-channel music. I chose the cherry finish, although it isn't a furniture grade, real wood cabinet, it looks fantastic and is darker than most online pictures make it appear. I do not find these speakers to be bright at all, on the contrary, they are fairly neutral. They are forward sounding and extremely revealing, so if you prefer a more laid-back, recessed sound (the polite sound of many British speakers), these are probably not the speakers for you. They do take some time to break-in, I'd guess that mine really started to shine after about 50 hours of playing music (classical, jazz, rock, and movie soundtracks). I also recommend spending the money to get a good AVR or separates with high SNR and low THD ratings. I paired these speakers with a Denon X5200W, which sounds sublime, and is capable of almost 150 watts per channel in stereo at .08% THD 20Hz-20kHz. Finally, positioning is important. They will sound their best if placed 2-3 ft from walls. If that isn't possible (as was the case for me), try experimenting with toeing in the speakers a bit, plugging the bass reflex ports with foam, adjusting EQ settings, and/or the crossover to find what works best in your room. I initially had too much booming bass (speakers are only about 6" from the wall), so I've settled on a crossover of 40Hz (with phantom subwoofers, as I don't have a need for a sub in my rather small living room) with a slight toe-in, and now I have the perfect, full sound with nice punchy bass without the messy booming/ringing bass.

Grew up with Cornwalls and a McIntosh MC 60. Klipsch still does it right. These are outstanding speakers and feel I stole them as they are being discontinued. If they are still out there at three and a half bills a piece you can't go wrong. Just pull the trigger already. Edit 9/27/18 They still rock and appear to get better with time. Guess they need several hours of play time to break in. Just looked and it appears they are still available. Edit 1/27/19 Still very impressed with these speakers. Looking to get another pair of front channels for bedroom setup. See these are still available. The specs are the Same as the newer RP 82 F that replaced these. Wonder if they sound the same? I'm surprised that these are still available. Edit 12/2/19 Ok so these speakers are just awesome. The clarity and fidelity is wonderful. Love them so much and since it seems that they had a lot of stock I bought another pair for the bedroom setup. Also picked up the RC-62 for center. I have two Yamaha receivers TSR 7850 for front room and RX 679 for bedroom. My house is gonna be rocking. 1/8/2020 Ok so I’m so floored that these are still available. I bought two more for my side surrounds and pulled the RB 51 II and put them in my bedroom. Let me tell you having four of these is heaven. Music is freaking awesome and movies are like being in a theater. My setup is 4 RF 82 II, RC 62 II, and R 120SW with a Yamaha TSR 7850 pushing the system, oh I have two AW 650’s on the patio for zone two. My house bumps in the summer inside and out. I love good sound and let me tell ya this is the shizznit.

Klipsch RF82 II BLACK Single 2-way Reference series black floor-standing speaker I received these speakers from Amazon in the time frame specified. Delivery was awesome and very helpful. The setup for these speakers was a snap. Good terminal connections. Just a simple mount for the base to stabilize the speaker from tipping. Very stable. I am using these for a secondary viewing area and as a music studio reference speaker. The higher power handling is very good with no distortion and very very crisp high and mid-range, typical with Klipsch horn driver. The low end is slightly limited which can be offset with proper EQ without the aid of a sub-woofer. The addition of a sub, while not needed does add improved low end. (watch your cross over frequency of the sub) The Klipsch 12 inch sub is a great addition. Overall it is a very well balanced speaker. The cabinetry is solid though not furniture quality by any means. I got the black pair and the simulated wood grain fits my decor. While it lacks the subtleties, finesse, lows and production quality of the older Klipsch Fortes speaker (Furniture grade made in Hope Arkansas not China) it does a very nice job for vocal reproduction for movies and music as well as some studio work.

Is it worth paying 800 dollars for these speakers? the simple answer is HELL YES ! Let's forget the rhetoric, hype, and audiophilistic bantering, these speakers simply perform in a range that is far above its price, and far above its class. I drive mine with a simple Yamaha A-S 501 integrated Amplifier, at 85 watts RMS/8 Ohms. The speakers can produce such astounding highs, and mind blowing lows with the Tractrix Horn and Cerametallic Woofers, you would think that each cabinet only needed one woofer to get the job done, I'm thankful there are two. Don't turn away from these speakers you might be considering for your main speakers, I came, I bought, and I conquered !!! Don't hesitate for a moment in your decision to purchase, just do it. UPDATE After a few months I thought an update was needed. The speakers have moved far above my initial expectations. I'm powering them with a Yamaha A-S 501, 85W per. I told my son I wanted to take a chance and see what they can really put out. My son played a song called "hail to the king" I didn't know how hard he had it cranked but the song starts out quietly, then BOOM !!! The bass response to this music wasn't loud distorted garbage but more like someone tossed a hand grenade in the room, I've never heard anything like it. I was unprepared for what he was playing and at the first BOOM I actually jumped, as did the person next to me. When the song finished we just looked at each other with a WTF look on our faces. Besides sound quality they are tough, I pushed them hard now and nary a problem, although I did remove "hail to the king" from the songlist.....

These speakers are much brighter than my former Klipsch KG 3.5's. In fact when I first listened to rock music with a lot of high frequency percussion the RF 82II's did not sound very good to me. I felt overwhelmed by the louder high frequency sound and quickly became fatigued by the music. Movies and other music sounded great. I decided to upgrade my rear surround speakers to RS 42II's and aimed the RF 82II's as per instructions and the sound is much better even on the rock music. The brighter sound coming from these speakers makes the sound much more directional than with my older speakers. My receiver (Yamaha) has a number of number of presets for music and movies and when in movie mode, brings the relative volume up on my RC 52 center. This makes the dialogue very clear. I am now very pleased with these speakers

I'm a value-based audiophile. I have absurdly sensitive ears (I'm one of those who hates fluorescent lights or CRT TVs because of the awful pitches they put out). However, I'm also absurdly practical, because in the audio world, you can spend your money on $500,000 speakers - that still aren't good enough. I wanted to replace my trusty and ancient Technics T-400s, and I remembered a pair of floor standing Klipsch speakers a friend of mine had, which I remember with high praise. I did my research and determined the RF-82 II would be the best value of a speaker to please my crazy ears. Most reviews are stellar, and I thought I would pleased. As you can see by my review, I was quite disappointed. Let me be clear that the speakers aren't bad. Specifically, they just aren't to my taste. All the other reviews weren't kidding, these speakers are super-clear, BRIGHT, and crisp. The high-mids are extremely clean to the point of surgical sterility. The low-mids also did not sound very pleasing to me. Part of this is that I listen to music mostly at a moderate volume, so to my ears it seemed most of the music came out of the 1" tweeter. The sound is certainly not horrible - in fact, it's extremely clear, bright, and if you are in the right spot, has a phenomenal forward throw. The problem is that I did not find this pleasing for music. Perhaps it is because my ear is biased towards a warmer sound, even it errs on the side of muddiness. If I was writing this review for front speakers for a home theater system, I'd easily give it four stars, as these same traits I find displeasing would be excellent traits for movies. However, I already have another system for movies. I want floor speakers that are dedicated to music, and I want them to sound warm, natural, and pleasing. I just didn't find this voice in these speakers. I'd be wary of "THIS IS THE BEST SPEAKER EVER!" just like "This is the WORST!". It's really easy to obsess over numbers, numbers, numbers. It's also really easy to get biased towards certain brands, and against other brands. I'm certainly not innocent here. However, every speaker has its own voice, in its own setting, with its own amplification. In this case, the Klipsch RF-82 II are harsh, sterile, and fatiguing while listening at low range. The crossover is odd, most music seems to come out of the tweeter. The sound improved when I raised the volume, but it still wasn't the voice I was looking for. I would give these two stars for music, but again, these speakers just aren't the voice I'm looking for. Perhaps they are for you. They have a definitive voice. And, most of all, I'm thankful for Amazon's generous return policy.

Lautsprecherbau war in meiner Jugend mein Hobby, besonders die Konstruktion von gefalteten Exponentialboxen. Und da gab es eine Edelwerkstatt in den USA, die so etwas professionell machte, allerdings zu unbezahlbaren Preisen: Klipsch. Nach über 30 Jahren habe ich meine Altec Studio Monitore schweren Herzens ausrangiert. Das gebogene Mittel-Hochtonhorn war lange der Standard für präzisen Klang, die massigen Tieftöner mit Gusschassis und hochkant mit Rechteckdraht gewickelten Spulen ein Inbegriff an Wirkungsgrad, zumindest zu Zeiten, als Subwoofer noch unbekannt waren. Meine Erwartungen waren also hoch und mein Argwohn gegenüber den kleinen goldenen Tief/Mitteltönern ausgeprägt. Getrieben werden die Boxen bei mir von einem McIntosh integrierten Amp. Die Front der Klipschboxen ist eine gespritzte Kunststoffplatte, alle drei Lautsprecher sitzen auf einer Achse, der Hoch/Mitteltöner sitzt hinter einem kurzen Horn. Der erste Höhreindruck, wie sich das gehört, ohne Eingriff durch einen EQ. Massiver Bass sieht, zumindest bei mir, anders aus! Es fällt aber sofort der plastische Höhreindruck auf, der hier auch schon oft beschrieben wurde. Nach einigem Herumprobieren habe ich dann meinen Yamaha Subwoofer dazu genommen. Der macht "Rums", scheinbar ohne Limit nach unten, bei mir schnell auch mal zu viel, wie das Rollo scheppernd verkündete. Nachdem ich alles eingepegelt habe, habe ich nun den fast perfekten Sound. Fast, weil mir die Klipsch im Bereich geschätzt zwischen 2000 und 4000 Hz etwas zu kräftig sind. Das bringt kolossal Präsenz in Stimmen und Gitarren, aber bei Alben, die hier in der Abmischung schon etwas Betonung haben (z. B. manche Supertramp Cuts), wird es dann schon mal gellend. Vielleicht liegt das auch am Abstrahlverhalten der besagten Plastikfront - ich habe vor, da noch etwas zu experimentieren. Das Ganze jetzt aber bitte nicht missverstehen: Was Sound anbelangt, bin ich recht eigen und der Name Klipsch ist in meinem Kopf noch immer mit einer Edelwerkstatt verknüpft. Inzwischen ist das aber ein Massenunternehmen - anders könnten solche Preise auch gar nicht realisiert werden. Die RF-82 II mögen den Ansprüchen richtiger Audiophilen nicht genügen, aber in dieser Sparte gibt man auch gerne das Zehnfache für Lautsprecher aus. Ich habe sie nicht zurückgeschickt, weil sie trotz des vergleichbar niedrigen Preises so viel bieten, dass sie als Ausgangsbasis für ein wirklich tolles Klangerlebnis taugen. Und der 3-D Eindruck übertrifft tatsächlich fast alles, was ich bisher erlebt habe! Für den Bassfetischisten einen ordentlichen Subwoofer dazu gestellt - fertig. Wenn einem viel Bassdruck unangenehm ist, dann reicht auch so, was die kleinen steifen Membrane von sich geben, auch, wenn das "Atmen" der wirklich tiefen Bässe fehlt. Die Höhen sind klar, aber unaggressiv, nur in den oberen Mittenlagen wird man wahrscheinlich etwas nachregeln müssen.

They rock hard

ich muss wirklich sagen dass diese lautsprecher jeden einzelnen cent wert waren und sind. Ich kann mich auch nicht beschweren über den zu niedrigen bass pegel in den unteren lautstärken liegt vlt an der falschen EQ einstellung aber genug davon. Gestochen hohe töne und auch ohne center lautsprecher oder anderweitige lautsprecher richtiges sorround feeling. Bei filmen glasklare stimmen und druckvolle tiefen ebenso wie bei musikwiedergabe. Einzig und allein ein Manko wenn man unter 1 meter an der box steht und etwas lauter musik hört kann man ein leichtes rauschen vernehmen (vom hochtöner )was nicht störend ist weil in normalfällen die box gute 2-3 meter weit weg ist.
