How is it for close up detailed picture?

I took some pictures of snowflakes and have perfect detail. I was about 3-4 inches away and they were about 1/4 inch diameter. I was just using automatic setting. I haven't tried the advanced features b/c I have an SLR. I can't speak for artistic close ups where you'd want to vary your depth of field.

Can video recording mode be set to shutter priority?

Video is accessed by pushing on a red button on the top of the camera. You can have the mode dial set to any of the modes-- including shutter-priority-- but I'm not sure if it really makes a difference or if, once video is engaged, it has its own setting. You might try going to a Panasonic website and posing that question there.

How do you recharge the battery? Do I need to buy a battery charger extra?

Does anyone have trouble with the clam shell lens not closing properly? I have an older DMC-Zs7 and his is the only problem I've ever had.

I've had this camera for over a year and have had no problems with the clam shell lens or any other part of the camera.
