Love these Rollers, puzzled by negative reviews.
I was shopping for some jumbo hot rollers and ran across this set that I purchased a several months ago. I was curious about the review rating so I read them and am puzzled. I cannot share the same opinion as the negative reviewers. I find that the rollers heat extremely well and retain the heat. In fact, I begin using them when the indicator dot just begins to turn. Once I place the primary four large rollers in my hair I unplug the set to prevent overheating the curlers and causing damage to my hair since hot rollers should not be used everyday and can cause split ends. I have medium thick hair and a lot of it, it's shoulder length, no bangs and this set curls my hair beautifully! In fact, I have curly hair day one, and beautiful fluffy and nicely shaped hair the second day. I love the metal clips, but there is a trick to using them. You must put them in to keep tension on the curler - for instance, you put the clip in from the opposite direction that you rolled your hair and press the open end of the clip down to sit on your head. The clips do not mark or crease your hair as some other brands clips can. If you cannot use these rollers effectively, I would look at the products you are using in your hair. I notice if I use a silicone conditioner or hair serum ( CHI Silk Infusion - 6 oz. , Frizz-Ease Extra Strength Serum, 1.69-Ounce or other similar products the curl falls out instantly. These products are great, but should only be used if you want to smooth and straighten your hair, they do not promote curling your hair. I purchased the Conair SPC10X Super Clips, 10 Count that are suggested with this hot roller set, and while I do like them I prefer the metal clips that come with the set because they hold the curler tighter to your head. I do find the Super Clips effective for sectioning my hair for different styles, as well as sectioning my little sisters hair when I cut it, but not for the hot rollers, if you are rolling the curlers all the way to your head. If you have longer hair and just want to influence the ends they would be great. Don't get me wrong, they work, but they allow the curler to flop around on your head, and I like them tight to my head until they cool. UPDATE April 15, 2015 - My hair is long now, down to my elbows. I purchased the Conair Jumbo Flocked Rollers http://amzn.com/B007S69QAY and guess what? I like these better!! The smaller rollers in this review curl better even though I am way overloading the roller with my super long hair. I have re-tried the Hot Roller Super Clips and they still do not work for me, even with way more hair. The pins that come with the set are far superior in their holding power.

Third time is a charm
This is the third set of electric rollers that I bought in 4 months. I hated the clips on the first set that I bought because they left a crease in my hair. I did not like the second set I bought because they were so hot that I was yanking them out of my hair after putting in the second roller because it was burning my hair. After looking at the reviews for this set, I decided that with the pins instead of clips and the lack of heat reported, perhaps these were what I was looking for. They have performed extremely well for me. Don't get me wrong, I still have to use styling products in my hair to hold the curl for the day. Where I live it is extremely warm and humid and curls will not stay in my hair without a styling product. But with the right product, my hair is full of bouncy curls. Some reviewers noted the difficulty in traveling with these rollers. While I do wish there was something that would "lock" the curlers closed and I wish that there was also a more separated compartment for the pins, I recently took mine on a two-week road trip. The curlers never fell out of the base even when they were turned sideways. It's all in the packing. Yes, the pins went everywhere inside the base, but that could have been resolved if I had taken the time to just put them in a small zippered bag. I put all my other beauty products in zippered bags, so why not the pins for the curlers? As for having difficulty choosing the right pin, I just turned the pins upside-down in their compartment. It's just as easy to lay them out alongside the curlers, too. I thought these were minor difficulties. I bought the curlers to curl my hair without causing burns to my fingers or my scalp and they deliver. To add to another reviewer's bit of advice on securing the pins, I agree that the pins need to go in opposite the direction in which you are curling your hair. For most people, the ends of the pins will point either up or to your face, depending on where the curler is. I also found that if I "aim" for my head, instead of just trying to slide it in, then turn the pin upwards or toward my face when they touch my scalp and I know that they grabbed a bit of hair, that the curlers remain quite secure. I've also tried the Conair clips that are recommended and they are secure as well. I'm quite pleased with this purchase. Added note 7-2-14: Some reviewers said that the red dot heat indicator never turned white as it was supposed to. I always started rolling my hair about 5 minutes after I plugged in the set so the dot never got a chance to turn white. So I decided to test them. After 15 minutes, the dot was completely white and the rollers were actually so hot that I unplugged the set before I used them. Some of these sets just seem to have problems that I have not encountered with mine.

Good quality rollers, but results vary by hair type
These hot rollers are well-made, heat up quickly, and are very easy to use. I appreciated how evenly they warmed and how secure the clips felt while holding them in place. The set also has a nice variety of roller sizes, which gives you some flexibility when styling. That said, while the product worked exactly as described, the end result just wasn’t my personal favorite for my hair type. The curls held, but the finish wasn’t quite the look I was going for. Someone with a different texture or length may get results they love, so it really comes down to personal preference. Overall, I think this is a reliable and well-built tool that does what it promises — it just may not give the exact style everyone wants depending on their hair.

Just WOW!
Great set of rollers! I ordered these on advise of a friend..Wowza! I’ve never rolled my hair before, but I got a lot of curls and volume, much better than a curling iron. My hair is mid length and naturally wavy. I’ve struggled styling it since it grew out from a shorter style. Once I get faster at rolling it, I’ll prob do it at a much higher frequency. The roller really create a lot of volume. The smaller rollers give more curl, while the larger ones give more volume. They are a game changer! The container is small and compact. Will be easy to travel with. Probably took about10-15 minutes to heat up. I’d strongly recommend if you want bouncy curls and generous volume. Enjoy!

Don't stay hot
Love these but they don't stay hot like the old fashioned ones do so don't get much use out of them

Have had this same set for over a decade! Never fails!
If you have thick, long hair then consider buying 2 of these. I've had the original one I purchased in 2006 and it's still going strong! However, whenever I'd grow my hair past my shoulders I would find I needed to use smaller sections of hair, as the rollers can only hold so much weight. So now I decided to purchase a second set off of amazon. Such a great product. The key is to make sure you roll each section in a different direction, and also stagger the sizes throughout your head. (For example: Too many small curlers in the front looks odd when paired with only large curlers in the back.) You have to give them a good 20 minutes to get really hot. Once the rollers are in, I suggest leaving them in your hair for minimum 45 mins-hour. Even if they feel cool to the touch, I find that I have better results when hair is left in the rollers for 1-2 hours. Yes, this requires planning in advance but is necessary. For beginners, once ready to take out, start taking out the bottom rollers in the back of your head. If you take out the ones on top, your hair will be getting in the way as you take the rest out! If you brush your hair after using these, it'll likely be curly but will POOF. If that's your desired look, then go for it. However I find it better to refrain from using combs, brushes, etc and using hands only to style. Immediately once I take rollers out I LIGHTLY spritz with some hairspray. I find the cheaper brands work better (Think: Suave). Again it's just a misting of hairspray, make sure you hold it far away and not too close or you'll get globs of hairspray that weigh the hair down. I find if I do not spray hair right away, the curls don't hold as long. I have also tried lightly misting hairspray while hair is still in the rollers, however I find that it makes the rollers messy (dried hairspray to clean off them!) and also it doesn't evenly mist all the hair (only the sections exposed in the roller get sprayed). So you can try that but be warned you may not get the desired outcome. It is very important to spray your hair once styled and out of the rollers. For whatever reason my hair frizzes BADLY if I forget this important step after using heat rollers. Keep in mind, you may need a curling iron to help tame a few curls that didn't curl perfectly in the rollers. I find these rollers make your hair look so nice whether you're wearing hair down or want some nice curls added to your ponytail. They're a great product and relatively inexpensive. I paid about $20 for the rollers nearly 14 years ago, so I'd say even at Amazon's price all these years later, this is still a great value :)

Dangerous! Conair Compact Multi-size Hot Rollers: Pink/Coral
WARNING! These do not have stay-cool ends so you can hold the hot rollers without burning yourself to roll your hair onto the rollers. I used to use hot rollers every day in the past for my hair, so I know what I'm doing with them. Imagine my surprise when I bought these for my daughter and tried to use them. Good thing I already knew how to use them, as the booklet that came with had no instructions on how long to leave in, and the indicator light on the roller that was supposed to change from red to white when the rollers were heated wasn't red to begin with, but was already white straight out of the box and never changed color, so it didn't indicate anything. Before these rollers I assumed all rollers had the stay-cool feature on the end of each roller so you can hold them in order to put them in your hair, because how else are you supposed to pick up something hot enough to burn in order to use them? We had an important event the curls were necessary for, or I wouldn't have even attempted to use these once I realized there was no cool end to hold these while rolling hair! I managed to get them in after letting each roller sit on a hot plate to cool first, which of course meant they were too cool to curl well by the time they were cool enough to handle. Curls did result- they just didn't last more than 2 hours without drooping. Good hot rollers should result in curls that last through the day if you have any natural curl to your hair, which my daughter does. I've even been able to sleep at night and have curls the next day with good hot rollers, which these aren't. What idiot designed hot rollers without a stay-cool feature at the end of the rollers? I'd like to see the designer try to use these on themselves. Obviously not quality tested. Buy these at your own risk, as you could end up with second degree burns on all of your fingertips!

Nice set of hot rollers
I didn't buy this product for traveling so am not reviewing it with that in mind. These rollers work well with my hair that is fine, graying, and straight. They add some curl and waves though I must use heat activated hair setting spray. The variety of roller sizes allows for adjustments for various hair lengths. My hair only just reaches beyond my ear lobes and I usually have 3 or 4 rollers left over that do not get used. They do need to heat up for about 15 minutes and I use a timer to let me know when they will be ready. The little button on one roller that is supposed to change color or become transparent when they are hot simply does not visibly change color, so I recommend using a timer. I divide the wire clips in the 2 slots so the biggest and smallest share one slot as they are easily differentiated. Mind you it is best to remove the clips from the slots to your countertop prior to plugging in the unit. They are close enough to the heat source that they get quite hot if you leave them in during the time it takes for the curlers to get hot enough. I did buy some bearclaw clips to use if needed but find that I do not use them. I am pleased with this appliance.

It makes nice curls
I am glad I was advised by YT vids of the plastic smell on initial use, otherwise I would have been shocked. I am glad of how the curls turned out tho.

perfeito!
