Set your spirit of adventure free with this journey to the world’s great oceans, discovering the diversity of life that exists in the deep blue sea. Whether you’re travelling long haul with leatherback turtles across the Pacific, snoozing with sea otters or ice bathing with a walrus, this book celebrates the very prescient topic of the world’s oceans with Lucy Letherland ’s animal characters. Each section begins with an infographic map of the ocean it explores – Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Southern and Arctic – followed by richly detailed two-page spreads exploring its depths and the denizens within , as well as seabirds , coral reefs and shoreline critters . Discover saltwater crocodiles lurking in the Andaman Islands, hammerheads gathering in the Atlantic, and the awe-inspiring colossal squid that calls the Ross Sea home. Lucy Letherland’s illuminating artwork shows how these oceans teem with life, forming part of complex and fascinating ecosystems, all in a quirky, characterful style. Interesting facts and figures pepper the scenes. Did you know that spinner dolphins can swim up to 400 kilometres a day? Or that some sea snails can grow up to half a metre long? Or that in the deepest depths, fish can glow in the dark? A natural history lesson in an adventure book, each spread features 10 captions and and facts about every destination. The 5th title in the best-selling Atlas of Adventures series that has now been translated into 31 languages. A ' Can you find? ' page at the back challenges you to explore the pages even deeper by locating the pictured scenes and scene-stealers. Children and adults alike will be amazed by the incredible creatures that await in the world's oceans. Review: Stunning Book for All Ages - First of all, this book is absolutely stunning. I love that the book is divided by different Oceans, and then by the specific animals that live there. There are plenty of things to spot, to make it interesting for my little ones, yet enough information for my pre-teens to learn about each creature without getting bored. I will definitely by more of the books in this atlas series. Review: Beautiful informative book for children and adults! - Absolutely beautiful book, everything about it is so nicely done and to such a high standard! I bought this for my self for some lockdown light reading! Lots of details of species more details that I’ve found online! Highly recommend for children and adults!! I love the text on dark background so nice nicer to read!

Stunning book
What a gorgeous, richly exciting for kids and adults, informative and beautifully illustrated book. Bought one for school use and have asked PTA to order more for each class as a resource and reference book. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Informative, With An Inviting Layout
This is a very well designed intro to ocean creatures. Lots of such books follow an encyclopedia format, or look like textbooks with lots of sidebars, font changes, and stock photos. This book moves in a different direction. Each topic or subject gets a two-page splash. The splash is one single illustration, (cavorting spinner dolphins, a leatherneck turtle, a lantern fish bait ball, a unique underwater feature). One line factoids are scattered throughout the drawing. There are bits of graphic business around the edges that highlight other fact features, (including a small map insert that displays the creature's range). The upshot is that there is a great deal of visual appeal, but also a fair amount of easily understood information. The tone is just right. The narrative style is inviting and a bit casual, but not sappy or jokey. The drawings aren't photo realistic, but they aren't cartoony either. The feel is more like a colored field journal, which is an engaging and attractive compromise. There are 37 topics covered. They are organized by ocean, so for each set of topics you start with an introduction to that ocean, and then move on to special features or denizens. Including the Indian Ocean and the Arctic and Southern oceans along with the usual Pacific topics was a nice touch, and allows for more variety than seems usual for these sorts of introductory ocean fact books. (The book also goes for the less common - Portuguese Man-Of-War, octopuses, Boobies, Sally Lightfoot Crabs, cuttlefish - instead of the usual Great White Shark material.) So, I found this attractive, informative and engaging. It seemed to offer a good balance between content and a fun style, and seemed especially well designed to be a read together sort of book. (Please note that I received a free advance will-self-destruct-in-x-days Adobe Digital copy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.)

A Beautiful Atlas!!!
This ocean atlas is quite large and would make a wonderful gift for an ocean loving child or even for a baby shower gift. The colors and illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. Each 2 page spread has an incredible amount of detail that keeps you lingering. I really love how in some of the scenes there’s quirky little things added. For example in the sea otters you’ll see an otter mischievously sticking his tongue out or in the hammerheads scene you’ll find one with a bouquet of flowers. At first I just thought it was a silly little detail to keep the kids interested but then I noticed at the end of the book there’s a game of “Can you find?” I cannot express how much I love this book. It’s definitely going to be one that gets well worn corners and pages.

BEAUTIFUL! High quality
I love finding beautiful books for my kids and this is one! Sturdy with matte-finish hard cover and thick paper. The illustrations are so colorful and detailed. Just enough text to learn interesting facts but not too cluttered. I really love it and can’t wait for my daughter to see it!
