Java Foundations (3rd Edition)

I would recommend this book for anyone interested in a Computer Science class.

I read a few Java textbooks so far and this is a boring read. It will teach you what you need to know but in a painful manner. I personally found the writing style overly abstract at times. Java in itself is already a technical subject and the writing style of this book is probably a bit more technical than it needs to be. I honestly got more out of the slides that were provided in class than this book. I'm only giving 3 stars due to the core material related to Java or else I'd say 2 stars. The presenter of the material is obviously someone great to learn from but it seems as if the audience is meant for himself or colleagues and not students new to the subject. This material has a lot of room for improvement and can have the potential to be a solid learning tool.

Nice combination of Intro to Java / Basic Comp Sci / Data Structures . This is my third Java textbook, and I like the programming assignments. I'm of the mind that any book on a programming language is stale, so I focus more on how well the examples illustrate the concepts, and the challenge presented by the programming exercises. Examples are really good, and exercises are just what is needed at this level.

Great introduction to Java. Be very mindful to read everything throughly and use the examples to learn each chapter properly. This is a timely process to learn.

The book is a good introduction to Java, but others are just as good for a lot less. The book has many typos, which are annoying in the text but cause problems in the program listings. Also, program listings are only available once you register, and your registration code is only good once. It's not too big a deal to type the programs in yourself, but every other book on programming, regardless of language, makes the source freely and easily available. The author isn't divulging state secrets here, it's all beginning to novice-level code.

This was exactly what was required for the class. It was brand-new and came with the access card and everything that was required. I am very satisfied

Good textbook for beginners to coding as a whole. Goes very in depth with details, but isn't the greatest at teaching coding specifics. Makes object oriented coding seem harder than it is.Unfortunately you probably don't have the autonomy to pick your own textbook, but there are always worse ones out there. This one isn't so bad.

I got this book used and it is actually still in great condition. I haven't looked at every page but from what i've seen it looks pretty much new. great product, great seller.
