A Whole New World of Casting On and Binding Off
Cast On Bind Off includes 54 step-by-step methods for casting on and binding off. It begins with cast ons and ends with bind offs. The information is wonderful for every knitter's library. As most knitters, I tend to use a single type of cast on and bind off and tend to stick with these techniques. As the author states, this is usual. The author discusses how she realized that different projects call for different types of cast ons and bind offs and that "different situations call for different techniques, and that using the right one has a huge impact on the finished garment." Most of us learned a particular type of cast on or bind off from the person who taught us how to knit and we tend to stick with that. "My hope is that this book opens a new world of possibilities and expands your horizons for beginning and ending a knitted project." This book can be used to learn new techniques, offers ways to experiment with different techniques and opens us up to a whole world of casting on and binding off that we didn't even know existed."In this book you'll find 33 different cast ons and 21 different bind offs. Each technique features photographs illustrating every step". The book is small enough to take with you when working on a project and includes tips on what technique is best for certain types of projects. The cast ons are divided into basic ones, stretchy, decorative, circular, double-sided, multicolor, provisional, tubular and mobius. The bind offs include basic, stretchy, decorative, and sewn. The photographs, drawings and diagrams are excellent and show in detail how to do each type of cast on and bind off.As a relatively experienced knitter I thought I knew quite a bit about casting on and binding off. This book opened me up to a whole new world of binding off and casting of. It's a wonderful reference book and one I don't know how I did without until now. I highly recommend it and plan to try many of these techniques right away. It is an essential addition to my knitting library.

Great Little Addition to your Knitting Library
"Cast On Bind Off" has 54 methods for casting on and binding off. The booklet starts with Cast Ons and ends with Bind Offs. This is a great little addition to a knitter's library and I like the small size as it fits comfortably in my knitting bag for Knit Nights without weighing me down. Yesterday, I used it to learn the 3 needle bind off and I found the directions and illustration easy to follow. The book contains 33 cast ons and 21 bind offs. Each is clearly illustrated with pictures so that you can follow the steps. The cast ons are divided into basic, stretchy, decorative, double-sided, circular, multi-color, provisional, tubular and mobius. The bind offs are also helpfully divided into basic, stretchy, decorative and sewn. All are clearly illustrated and easy to follow. I quickly found the 3 needle bind off in the book and followed the directions and illustration with excellent results. As a fairly novice knitter, I feel the illustrations and directions are easy for me to follow and understand. This book is well worth the investment.

Excellent Resource for Knitters
Wow! I'm impressed! This handy-sized book is loaded with ways to begin and end your knitting. To be precise, there are 33 ways to cast on and 21 ways to bind off. The inner covers conveniently list techniques by category - all-purpose, decorative, stretchy, ribbing, circular, toe-up socks, provisional, etc. There's also a good index that references applications such as "gloves, binding off fingerless" and "shoulders, binding off" as well as techniques. The first pages of each section show side-by-side examples of each method, all knitted in the same yarn for easy comparison. Each technique includes a description, characteristics, suggestions for use, good photos and instructions for working, and hints for "getting it right." I like the lay-flat binding and the size is perfect to tuck into your knitting bag. This is an excellent reference book for any knitter, novice to experienced.

Practical, User-Friendly Resource
This is a wonderful 208-page cast-on/bind-off resource by leslie Ann Bestor, from its sturdy spiral-bound back which keeps the book open flat to its easy-organized table of contents and index/resource list. Pages are heavy bond which will help it stand up to use without making the book bulky. Its neat size makes it easy to carry. Each technique is described, photographed and labeled clearly, with photographed and detailed written instructions for execution. Additional features include characteristics of each technique and the type of garments that the cast-on or bind-off options are best for.Cast-on/Bind-off is a treasure that I expect to keep for a long time!

More information than I thought
I am a fairly new knitter and struggle sometimes with books and stitches because it's hard for me to read a description and translate that into me doing the action. While I do have books, I have relied on videos. When I looked at some of the pages of this book, I decided to take a chance on it. I am attempting to knit socks so knowing different cast-on and bind-off methods have become more important than they generally are for me.This is a pretty nice little book! So far it looks like the explanations are great but at any time if I feel I need more information, I can see the different methods for what I want and then know what it's called so I can do some web research for videos. The way I see it is it doesn't cover all the things, just cast-on and bind-off, so it can concentrate on all the ways to do it for the effect you want or need. It's not as overwhelming as a huge book (I have those too) and it is easy to find what I want (like a stretchy bind-off) and explore my different options. This isn't an expensive book at all, I feel you can't go wrong with it unless you know all of this information without it. I did not.

Great little reference book
I'm a beginner to intermediate knitter who mostly knits socks. I was taught one way to cast on by the lady who taught me how to knit and that's all I've been using, but I've noticed that the way she taught me to cast on for socks isn't necessarily the best method for making a sweater, for instance.I've not had the time to do a lot of research into what's the best cast-on for various items, and I don't foresee my having that kind of time in the near future, so I really appreciate that this book tells you which cast-on method works best for which projects (with good instructions supplemented by nice, clear photos). I can quickly reference what I need without plowing through a treatise on the topic (which I would love to do...but not in the next few years).Though packed with information, the small size of the book makes it easy to tote around if you're an on-the-go knitter. I've not tried the various bind-offs yet, though I assume they're as good as the cast-ons. Based on what I've used so far, I highly recommend this handy little reference guide.

Excellent handy resource!
There's a book upcoming in August I believe that promises 211 cast on and bind offs. While I wait for that I thought I'd check this one out!First, it's a tidy, squarish book, 6 x 7 or so inches, just the right size to tuck in a knitting bag and it's not only spiral bound to lay nice and flat it's safety bound--so no weird bits from the binding to snag your knitting or yarn! There's a quicky index on the inside covers of the book--cast ons in front, bind offs in back. For example, the headers for bind offs are: All purpose, lace, decorative, stretchy ribbed, and specific use. So if you're, say, knitting that toe up sock,, you know which section you will want to hit. There's a brief tutorial about things you'll need to know for the techniques--such as what knitwise or purlwise are, so it's very beginner friendly. Each technique has a picture that cleverly shows rightside/wrongside of the work, a close up of the edge, and characteristics and what it is good for, followed by a step by step, with lots of color photographs, and then a box called 'getting it right' to help troubleshoot. All in all this is a great step for a beginning knitter to up her or his game, and a really handy resource for any knitter to tuck in the bag. It's designed to be a reference source, used and used again.

Nice format with good organization discussing methods not seen in more popular knitting books
I liked this book. It’s size is convenient considering the size of most knitting books. It lays flat when open making it easier to follow along when practicing or learning a new method. Mind that any new spiral bound page will tear if you aren’t careful when initially turning the pages. I didn’t have an issue and I would assume most careful adept knitters wouldn’t either. The techniques are well categorized and explained. I did go to YouTube to see the methods applied but honestly some of the methods in the book I wouldn’t have known about except for the book. Once I saw it done on YouTube, the book was all I needed to refresh my memory when I wanted to use a method again. To those of you who like to give negative reviews without really explaining your negativity: a huge raspberry!!! Stop giving negative reviews for something you did and the item didn’t. This book deserves applause for doing something that no “comprehensive” knotting books care to do and in a format meant to be used. Pages too thin for you: go stick with children’s books! My favorite cast on is now the “old Norwegian.” Thanks, book, you get my 5 stars!!!!
