Quiet and powerful, not too difficult to install
If you are desperately looking for a new garbage disposal for a DIY installation, do yourself a favor and try this one out! I am not a professional plumber but I could set this up myself.. not without any trouble though. It wasn't this garbage disposal that was giving me the trouble, it was removing the old unit that took me longer than expected. I had a common 3 bolt type disposal and taking it out had me use more force than I anticipated. But eventually I could take it out with the help of the two screwdrivers and a piler. Be careful not to damage your pipes and kitchen sink when you remove your old unit. Be sure to disconnect the pipes first before twisting your old unit out or you could end up damaging the pipes before the installation even begins. Anyway, back to the product review, the instructions were clear, and it fits perfectly into the kitchen sink. It's compact and much thinner than my old unit. The quietness of this machine is impressive, it is so much quieter compared to my old unit. I was provided with all the tools I needed except for one, which is plumber putty, you will need to purchase that to seal the gap between the sink and the disposal to prevent water leaks. You can follow the instructions manual it provided but I would recommend watching the video on YouTube "How to replace a garbage disposal by LRN2DIY" He uses exactly the same brand but just different HP, but instructions are pretty much the same. Highly recommended! If a first time like me can do it, you can too!

Good buy - recommend to most people compact but a bit noise
Waste King L-1001 Legend Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Operation Waste Disposer This is a great product and I can highly recommend it. There are pros and cons like everything else: Pros: compact size, easy to install, ships with everything you'll need in the box, removable splash guard, reset button located in the front of unit, 3 prong power cord, 2 year warranty. Cons: Somewhat noise during operation, not a direct replacement to other brands mount assembly, does not have the wrench hole on the bottom in case it ever jams (will need to use a wood spoon or broom handle if ever happens). The box comes with everything you'll need to install it, including a rubber gasket for S.S. sinks. I found it very easy to install and I'm very satisfied with the final result. Initially I planned to buy a unit that I could re-use the mount assembly that is already installed on the sink but removing the old one and cleaning up was the part that took longer. Installing the new one was a breeze - no plumber putty needed if installing on S.S. sinks. The unit comes wired with a three prong power cord - you'll need an switched outlet under the sink and I recommend it. My house had a direct wire from the wall to the old disposer and I just installed a box with an outlet on it. It gives you peace of mind to unplug the disposer anytime you drop something inside it and need to get your hand there to remove the object. This unit will mount a bit higher than my old one under the sink so the discharge elbow pipe (included) will be about 2 inches high but it still fit with my old plumbing without any changes. THIS UNIT IS NOT SOUND INSULATED, THEREFORE THE SMALL SIZE. It is noisier than my old one with a low frequency rumble but I find the tradeoff between space saving under the sink and the 5 seconds noise acceptable. If you are worried about that look for the larger sound insulated units instead and you won't have any worries. This unit does not have that Allen wrench hole on the bottom in case it jams. The manual recommends to remove the splash guard - it slides right on and off - and use a broom handle to clear the jam. I found the removable splash guard a nice touch - it can look bad after a while and it is easy to order a $3 replacement and just slide it in. You can also easily remove it to fit your hand inside to pick something you dropped there. It also comes with a stopper included in the box. The mount assembly (the black part on the picture that connects to the sink) is made of hard plastic, however the part that is visible inside the sink has a S.S. top metal ring built in. It looks and feels of very good quality. The reset button is located in front of the unit, very easy to reach in case it ever pops out. The whole package comes in a box without any messy foam; an excellent English/Spanish/French paper manual included, 800 number in case of installation doubts and even on-line video of the installation on the manufacturer website. You may or may not use it with a dishwasher, just remove the plug if you want to install the dishwasher discharge hose. Overall, I'm satisfied and well recommend this unit to most households where sound during the operation is not an issue. Strong and reliable, just a little loud
I've been using this for a few years now and it has held up really well. Installation was straightforward and it came with everything needed to get it up and running quickly. The power is impressive, strong enough to handle pretty much anything you throw at it without jamming or struggling, and the functionality has been flawless since day one. No odors coming from the sink either which is always a good sign. The one downside is the noise. It's louder than I expected, not the end of the world but definitely something you notice every time you flip the switch. If noise is a concern for you just keep that in mind. For the price though you're getting a solid, reliable disposal that gets the job done year after year. Worth it.

Excellent disposer and incredible value, but frustrating custom flange compatibility
I moved in to a new home recently and found that the existing disposer was in need of replacement. Instead of replacing just the disposer, I decided to go ahead and completely replace the entire sink, including the faucet, flanges, and disposer. I decided to purchase most of these items on Amazon due to the excellent prices and free Prime shipping. However, I was troubled by the lack of documentation and details regarding the compatibility of the different parts. I'm writing this review along with a review of the disposer flange I purchased in an effort to fill in these gaps for future purchasers. For the disposer, I went with the Waste King L-1001 Legend Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Operation Waste Disposer; unfortunately, the flange that comes with the disposer has a highly reflective chrome finish which will not be suitable if you want to coordinate with faucet hardware that isn't also chrome. Though there are many custom flanges to choose from, the Waste King will not be compatible with most of them since it utilizes the EZ Mount system for attaching the disposer to the sink. This assembly is not compatible with the majority of the custom finish disposer flanges found on Amazon and in most other stores; most are intended for Insinkerator (ISE) disposers. There is an adapter kit available ( Waste King 3101 ISE Adapter Kit ), but I would highly recommend only using this adapter if you are replacing an existing ISE disposer and want to use the hardware already attached to your sink; if you are starting from scratch you would still need to purchace the ISE mounting hardware in addition to the adapter. I should also note that there are some Waste King branded flanges for sale, but the only ones I found that are compatible with the EZ Mount system have plastic finishes, like white, biscuit, etc. Waste King flanges that offer a metal finish are only for Waste King disposers that use the very different 3-bolt mounting system, which are a bit more expensive than the EZ Mount variety. If you plan to start from scratch with all new components as I did, using an EZ Mount disposer along with a suitable disposer flange like the Waste Maid Custom Sink Flange/Stopper Set I eventually purchased will simplify your installation and help you avoid headaches and delays caused by ordering incompatible parts. If you insist on a certain brand of disposer flange you will have to get the flange, ISE mounting hardware, and the adapter. This should work, but at a much higher cost than the Waste Maid flange alone. I won't go into too much detail about the disposer itself; anything I would say has already been posted. It's compact, it's powerful, and it's an excellent value. On top of all that, it's also the quietest disposer I personally have ever used; however, I should note that I've only ever had Badger junk before this and I have it mounted to a very solid and heavy cast iron sink. Your mileage may vary when it comes to noise and vibration if you're using a lighter sink. Installation was a breeze once I had the correct type of flange. Like some others have mentioned, I would recommend installing an outlet under your sink if you were considering rewiring the disposal with an existing connection. Installing an outlet will be easier than replacing the existing cord and will also simplify future replacements/upgrades. Finally, an outlet and box costs less than one dollar, so it's really a no-brainer. In conclusion, I would not hesitate to buy a Waste King again, but I'm pretty confident that I won't even have to for a long time. If you need a new disposer, Waste King is the way to go; just make sure you get the right kind of flange if you don't want to use the stock one.

Perfect if you dont use the disposal very often!! DIY friendly!!
Its super cheap, surprisingly very easy to install, much more powerful and more quieter than my previous more expensive garbage disposals. I was slightly worried about buying the cheapest disposal on amazon, But I figured Even if it breaks in a few years, its cheaper to buy 2 of these than 1 of the rival brand 1/2 HP disposals. I was very surprised on how quiet it is. No rumbling or shaking my countertop at all. To be fair, I dont really use the disposal all that much. Maybe on average just 20-30 seconds a day, but I can tell this does the job just very well. Its powerful and fast. I tested it out and it clears my drain within seconds. Not to mention its very easy to install. I was able to install it on a very old cast iron sink. There's a review that mentions that you cant install this on one of them, but thats just not true in my case. It uses mostly rubber gaskets so you dont have to worry about the difficult to install O-ring that come with most garbage disposals. Those O-rings are tricky to install and a nightmare to take off if you're replacing an old disposal. I really surprised and satisfied with this unit. I hope it lasts a while, but even if it doesnt, its still great for a DIY'er who's trying to get their feet wet with kitchen sink plumbing!

Great Value
I bought the used in "new" condition and saved another $15 or so dollars. Came in a Factory sealed box and if it was used you couldn't tell, even the parts in the plastic bag were unopened. Installed yesterday, very easy to do. If your installing in a stainless steel sink all gaskets are included, if other than SS you'll need some plumbers putty. I suggest to install the "easy mount" system included, just a few more steps involved and avoids having to buy the adapter which is required if you decided to try and mount the disposal to your existing mounting system if it's not already an " easy mount". Comes with a 3 prong elec cord attached, my old disposal was hard wired directly to the disposal. I spent about $3 dollars on parts and installed a recepticle under the sink, looks cleaner and makes future repairs/replacement much easier. Plumbing was really the only issue, and it really wasn't all that bad. My guess is that most installs will require a little customizing to fit. My insinkerator disposal had a threaded drain line, this unit does not,has an 1 1/2 in bolt on " down tube, so about $3 dollars in PVC fittings to tie it in and all is well. I also installed a "custom" made dampner! there was some vibration and I observed that when I grabbed the drain line with my hand the vibration was minimalized and unit itself was pretty quiet. Since I couldn't stand there the rest of my life and hold the drain line I took the old rubber " splash guard off the other disposal , trimmed it up so that it was the diameter of the drain pipe and wrapped it around the drain line and attached it with a zip tie. Made a big/huge difference in the amount of noise! Shipping was Faster than they said it might be( 5 days). Bottom line........ good value and easy install!

Not easy to install
Reviews I read were incorrect. My old garbage disposal was hot wired. I had to go to town and buy supplies to install a plug in. Instruction for taking off old garbage disposal were great. Attaching the new disposal to the sink flange was the hardest part. Every time I would try to pull the mount ring over the cushion mount the mount would come off the sink flange and the cushion mount was not going all the way up into the mount ring. When off the sink flange the cushion mount would go perfectly into the mount ring but, when the cushion mount was on the sink flange it made it very difficult to get the cushion mount to fit the mount ring properly. I believe it made the cushion mount just a little wider. After much difficulty I finely got the cushion mount to fit the mount ring properly. Every time I would push the disposal up to the mount ring it would push the mount ring up and i founded it impossible to hold the disposal up with one hand and tighten the mount ring with the other. Finally, I got a car jack and used it to lift the disposal up and tighten the mount ring. Next, this disposal is much smaller than the one I had and the discharge elbow was too long to match up with the drain pipe it was to attached to and I had to cut it off with a hack saw and of course the drain pipe that it was to attached to was also to long to fit and I had to cut it off with a hack saw. Finely it works. It is much smaller than the disposal I had and sink flange is smaller and I can not get my hand down it to get anything that might get stuck out as I could in the old disposal but it does work. You get what you pay for. I believe it will work ok for us. We hardly ever us the disposal and the old one was leaking and had to be replaced. Turned into a all day project with some breaks in between of course. It is a low grade disposal but at a low grade price. Love the price. Just wanted to point out that you should not listen to the review that said it is a 30 min job! Ha Ha! If you have time and want to save some money, it is an ok disposal. I don't know if I would order it again or not. I have another house that the disposal is not working but not leaking so it does not have to be replace but, I am considering this for that because I think and hope the second time would be easier but, I am going to look at some other disposals first before I make that decision. By the way it is not as easy to install as they imply but I have not installed any other brand so they all may be hard to install.

An excellent apple masher
This "garbage disposal" works well as an apple masher. There are many examples of using them for this purpose on the internet; I chose this one because it looked simple to mount and use, and was inexpensive. Perhaps the best feature of it is that it hasn't over-heated and shut itself off. It just keeps running although I am feeding apples continuously into it. It mounted easily, and I have the discharge pipe feeding into a larger piece of new PVC pipe to the bucket below. It is vibration-free, and easy and efficient to use. It uses a standard 3-prong 120V electrical connection. The first picture is of the basic set-up, while the second picture shows the full set-up, complete with mash. (The plastic knife acts as a wedge to keep the PVC pipe in place. It is easy to clean - I just run water from a garden hose into it. The masher is easy to disassemble although the grinding surface cannot be taken off (remember, these things are not meant to be maintained by the user). I am thoroughly pleased with it for this purpose.
