What is the longest mark you can make?

the longest mark would be governed by the length of the piece you are marking. the width of the mark is governed by a scale on the side malco A60 which goes from zero to 6 and one half inches in incriments of one eight inch.

Would this work for scratching a bevel line in layout fluid on a knife? Or will is scratch the metal too much?

It should work. The harder you push the deeper the line.
