Okinawan Kobudo: A History of Weaponry Styles and Masters" is a comprehensive and complete book on the origins of the Okinawan kobudo (weaponry). It contains a description of the early history of weaponry in the Ryukyus; the relationship of kobudo to karate; and several myths and misunderstandings about Okinawan weaponry. In addition to profiles of nearly a dozen ancient kobudo masters, this book includes detailed histories and analysis of the major lineages/styles of Kobudo, including the Yabiku-Taira, Yamane, Matayoshi, Ufuchiku, and Motobu Udundi (Gotente) schools of kobudo. In each case, the book provides a history of the masters--from the founders to today's masters--analytical assessments of the style's characteristics, descriptions of their curricula, and lineage charts. It contains chapters on each of the weapons of Ryukyu kobudo, including extensive bibliographies on where to find more information about each. The book is lavishly illustrated with photos, art work, maps, tables and charts, including a detailed table of all the major recognized kata for each weapon in Ryukyu kobudo. Its footnotes provide access to a wide array of sources in English, French, German, Spanish, and Japanese--including available videos on the styles and masters--for those who wish to learn more. As the companion to the author's two volume, five-star rated "Okinawan Karate: A History of Styles and Masters," this book is an absolute “must-have” for all serious martial arts students. Review: A must have - An excellent book to have for every karate practitioner, highly recommended. Review: good information but somewhat repetitive and left out some details ... - good information but somewhat repetitive and left out some details in places. but overall a great effort and a useful addition to the history , nice is that it's all in two volumes!

Okinawa kubudo history
This book is a great reference to the weapons practiced in Okinawa. Very detailed and the author went to the extreme to get detailed info and if not satisfied there are amazing footnotes that can be followed to find even more info on this ancient art. This book is great if you are training in Okinawa kubudo and are interested in knowing the master's and history of the origins of the Okinawa weapon system. All lineages of the weapon systems are named and weapons I never heard of are in the book and what they were used for since Okinawa was once banned from weapons and how these weapons evolved from farm tools and other means which are mentioned in this awesome book! I highly recommend this book to any Okinawa kubudo practitioner.

The best book on Kobudo history that I know
It is not just a good book for martial arts history but a good history book all around with some nice glimpse of the Meiji and Taisho period events. The bibliographic notes at the end of each chapter are what makes this work stand out as a reliable source on the different lineages.
