We loved the Big Franks but we did not like the ...
Before I bought these, we had only eaten the Loma Linda Big Franks and the Linketts. We loved the Big Franks but we did not like the Linketts (they are weirdly "hard" instead of hotdog textured). Because we realized the products all have different tastes and textures, we were leery at first of trying these, but when the price of Big Franks in Amazon's Subscribe and Save option suddenly went up astronomically (!!!) we decided to give these more normal-priced hotdog facsimiles a try to replace that item. I'm glad we did! While we still love the Big Franks (although they actually taste a lot more like really huge Vienna sausages than hotdogs--which is okay since both my husband and I loved Vienna sausages as kids, long before becoming vegetarians) these are far more like real hotdogs. The taste is closer and the texture is a lot more like the real thing than the softer Big Franks. Some people complain about the taste of the broth on all the Loma Linda fake hotdogs, but we actually like it. Yes, it is a bit salty, but I really like the savory quality of the nutritional yeast in it. You can actually use it like meat broth to make gravy as well. The one thing I wish is that these did not have egg whites in them--making them vegetarian but not vegan. (Big Franks are completely vegan.) While we do eat eggs, we get ours from our free range and very happy backyard chickens. I DO NOT wish to promote the cruel poultry industry if I can help it, so I wish Loma Linda would consider finding a substitute for that particular ingredient. The price of these seems kind of expensive if you are used to buying cheap regular hotdogs at the grocery store, but considering that there are 8 links in a can, a can makes a generous two servings each for two people (they say one link is a serving, but really, nobody eats just one of these ;) ) it comes out to very little per meal. Plus they're great right out of the can. You don't even have to cook them to enjoy, so they're great for camping. I would highly recommend these for anyone considering a transition to vegetarianism or even to meat-eaters. So far everyone I've served these to, really likes them. They are especially good on a bun with chili and onions for a fantastic chili-dog!

Great Taste & Value
We think these are really great. They taste good, always have good reliable consistency, quality and texture. The flavor and taste is always very satisfying and appealing to all the adults in the house and the kids like them too! They're packed with good, clean nutrition and a really good value for the money. I highly recommend these. I've tried other brands but these are the absolute best.

LOVE These Tender Bits!
We have been lacto-ovo vegetarians for a number of years, me being one for most of my life. I use the Loma Linda meat substitutes about once a week and have for years. Out of all the different kinds that Loma Linda makes, the Tender Bits are my husbands most favorite ones to eat. To prepare them, I rinse them off, dry them, cut them up into smaller pieces and then I lightly "fry" them in a little butter sprinkled with a fair amount of dried dill weed. I saute/fry until lightly browned and a bit crispy on the outsides. (I do not batter them or even roll them in flour, I just throw them in the pan with the butter and dried dill weed.) I serve them with rice, a fresh veggie like green beans or broccoli, and I make a tarter sauce for them, just like they were a "fried" fish type of thing. Tender bits don't actually taste fishy, or even chicken'y, this is just my husband's favorite way that he loves them prepared. You can do lots of different things with Tender Bits. Sauce them! Marinate them! Bake them! Fry them! They can substitute for a lot of chicken or fish recipes because they are somewhat a neutral flavor. I'd suppose they might take some getting used to for non-vegetarians, or for people who are not familiar with meat substitutes because they might be considered to have a bit of a chewy texture, but we like them that way. Tender Bits sure do work well for us and it is very handy to have them in cans in our pantry for a quick and tasty meal.

Best Fake Dogs Out There!
Love these! I have lots of problems digesting veggie dogs that are cooked in the microwave or over an open fire. Most I have used in the past became rubbery. Not these! They come out of the can ready to heat. I have used them in several different ways - all with good results! 1. Cut up into stews and soups - they keep their shape even when sliced thin and cooked in a crock pot for hours. 2. Grilled on the stove - They brown up fast and stay juicy. 3. Beany Weenie in a saucepan - They worked great and added flavor and texture as expected. 4. Roasted over an open fire - Best Wiener Roast hot dog ever. The skin stays edible and the dog inside stays juicy and tasty.

Usually a great product but not this time. And Amazon offers no return of exchanges!
I have purchased this product many times from Amazon as supplied by vendor Teamspirit, and it has always been a quality source of vegan protein, with a consistent look, color, texture and taste. Additionally, I have been using this and similar Loma Linda/Worthington products since I first discovered them in the mid 1990s. This particular shipment, which is hopefully a one-off of odd/poor quality, is nothing like any other version of this product that I've ever received from an online source or purchased from a brick-and-mortar site. Each nugget or "bit" in the first 2 cans that I opened were very firm/hard and slightly rubbery, with an odd/flat odor/taste, and most notably a very dark tan color on one side, as if they had been stained by having been sitting in the can for years. In my experience these Loma Linda/Wentworth Tender Bits are usually light tan in color and very soft and pliable with a fresh salty taste. These are anything but. If this particular batch is indicative of some new change in the manufacture's processing which is effecting the final product, I am unaware of it and would be surprised since I suspect sales would falter. I am disappointed that Amazon or the vendor does not offer an exchange in cases like this. I'm not sure what I will be doing with the remaining 10 unopened cans but I doubt if they'll be offered to my family. I'm not sure even a charity kitchen would take them. At approximately $8 dollars per can, I expect a more consistent food product. I hope this isn't the future of these vegan treats.
