My workplace has a tolerance level for these, given how much better they are than the cheap rubber bands we call a tourniquet for the rest of the hospital. These are slightly thicker, far more comfortable for the patient and very controllable in terms of their tightness and release. Used it on a patient this week and she even commented on how much more comfortable it was compared to the normal tourniquets she has applied to her arm when getting bloods taken. Another plus is that she said she was a difficult bleed, and one arm was not great for finding a vein, but the other, with a little extra tightening and a wee bit of patience and I got a nice juicy one popping up I could have found in the dark! That I can throw this in with my uniforms and wash it at the same temperature negates the infection control issue for my job, although I'm not taking bloods several times a day. It's more comfortable for the patient, better for the nurse, so I think should be a part of any nurse's toolkit.
