## Overview

The GDK101 Gamma Radiation Sensor Module by FTLAB is a compact, solid-state device featuring 10 sensitive PIN photodiodes and an integrated MCU for smart analysis. It accurately measures gamma radiation from 0.01 to 200 μSv/h with ±5% linearity error, includes vibration detection to prevent false alarms, and offers versatile I2C & UART interfaces for seamless Arduino and MCU connectivity. Designed for long-term, maintenance-free use, it’s ideal for environmental safety monitoring and IoT applications.

## Description

The GDK101 is a solid state gamma radiation sensor module which has sensitive 10 PIN photodiodes and transimpedance amplifier circuit controlled by MCU. It is optimized for the low level gamma detection up to 200 μSv/h, for the measurement of our environmental condition with various IoT solutions. The uncertainty of sensing value is below ±10% by FTLAB’s precision technology using international standard calibrated procedure. It’s robustic design allow the long life time, more than 5 years without the need of maintenance. And the sensor module includes a internal MCU, it provide a smart analyzing function with built in a vibration sensor for recognition the error pulse caused by external mechanical shock. It also provides the I2C & UART interface for external microprocessor and Arduino. Also user can check the detecting waveform directly from the analog output port. It would be useful for verifying the energy spectrum analysis of gamma photons. Features Ÿ Solid state sensor : sensitive PIN Photodiode 10pc Ÿ Sensitivity : 12cpm/μSv/h Ÿ Measurement Range : 0.01 ~ 200μSv/h Ÿ Linearity error : ±5% up to 100μSv/h Ÿ Calibration free Ÿ Supply voltage & current : DC 4.0 ~ 6.0V, 10mA Ÿ I2C and UART interface for MCU & Arduino Ÿ Analog output port for analysis of detection pulse Ÿ Built in vibration sensor for prevent error detection

Review: Useful in the right application - I've been building a radiation topography robot and have been using this in what started as a Raspberry Pi environment. I had to bring on an Arduberry to interface with this sensor. The sensor hasn't lived up to my hopes and I would purchase one of the Geiger counter kits for sale if I were to do it over again. For me, this sensor is trying to do too much with it's averaging and vibration detection, and I would rather just receive a continuous signal of measured radiation and do whatever averaging/data rejection I want in my code. Also, perhaps I'm just dense, but after playing with it for ~6 months, I still haven't figured out what some of the characters it wants for input even are. I see them in the publications and can't find them in any keyboard layouts I know of. I feel the proper use of this sensor is in static radiation safety situations where you'll trip an alarm if radiation levels reach a pre-ordained level. Say a reactor or similar with a simple implementation of Arduino environment detecting the level and throwing an alarm if needed.
