Penn had the Spinfisher model, which remained a champ, even through modern changes, though the Spinfisher has always been a slightly pricier reel. The Battle series brought a lot of the strong features of the Spinfisher and offered them at a lower price. I have them in various sizes and they're all still going strong where other modern reels have failed. If you can get these at a cheap price then don't hesitate.
