It has one thump notch and no other holes. This is as I wanted, and what I expected to receive. It sounds fantastic. **Q: Is the 22 inch better than the 16 inch?** A: It has a deeper sound but is more awkward to handle, so it depends what you are looking for. I have both and use for different purposes/moods. **Q: Does this drum come with a mallet or do you have to purchase one separately?** A: Since they are really hand drums they don’t come with mallets. There are drums held by the hand and struck with a mallet but not these. **Q: I've bought counterfeit products from overstock. com before. Do any of you suspect these drums or other products purchased from Amazon may also be?** A: Personally I wouldn't know if the drum I ordered was counterfeit or not. All I do know is I absolutely LOVE my drums! I've purchased the 22" frame drum, 22" buffalo drum and 16" buffalo drum. I chose these as the larger versions have a little cut out to make holding them easier (I have small hands and find the smaller and medium sizes easy to hold but the larger ones are easier to play with it sat on your knee). These are genuine Remo products and mostly arrived in original Remo labelled boxes with a leaflet about other Remo products. They were well packaged and no damage.
