We have had no issue with no scratches at all. We are very careful and we only use the rice paddle that came with it, and also use a soft sponge to clean. We don't know how others managed to scratch it at all. A hint: do not wash the raw rice in the pot. That scratches. Some science: teflon pieces ingested are NOT absorbed into the body and is excreted. It is not toxic. The toxicity comes in the fume when it is overheated.
