## Description

Porta Potti 92306 White Thetford Corp, Polypropylene

Review: Thetford makes an unpleasant task bearable. - I just purchased this two weeks ago. I am glad that I purchased this product. Let me start by saying my home is my trailer and this toilet is used daily. My previous portable toilet was a Fiamma and it was great, but after 5 years it could not contain the smell and would leak. I read the reviews of the product and was hesitant to put out more than a hundred dollars on a portable toilet that may or may not have an electric flush problem. Luckily I did receive one that does flush, but as some reviewers mentioned it may go out. I have only had it two weeks...so far so good. I will update after a couple of months and again in one year. Now for my review of the portable toilet itself. I have to say that the Fiamma I had was good, but this Thetford Curve is better. First, it stands taller than my Fiamma and the Thetford feels like a real toilet. It looks much better with the smooth lines and curve, which is nice for when company comes over and they don't have to encounter a square clunker looking toilet and the uptight people will feel more comfortable sitting on the Thetford Curve. The automatic flush is great. It does the job and does not spray up on the toilet seat like t Fiamma's manual flush would do. I am a overweight person and I am comfortable on this toilet. This toilet feels sturdy. I wouldn't sit on the lid (even if I was skinny) because it really isn't made to be sat on. I have just emptied this for the first time. I don't have the greatest back and because of the way you need to hold it with the weight of the waste it is a little awkward and put a little more strain on my back than the Fiamma toilet did. But that could just take getting use to (maybe). But and this is a big but (no pun intended)...I would take the awkwardness of emptying the Thetford Curve over the Fiamma for one reason and to me a big reason. When emptying the Fiamma, it would splash all over (even outside the bowl no matter how fast or slow I emptied) and would come out like "glop glop" which creates more splash. Very unpleasant. But the Thetford Curve was so much better. The little air vent button worked like a charm. There was no splashing. There was no "glop glop" at all. It was poured out like a pitcher of water. Not one splash outside the bowl. It made an unpleasant task bearable. Even if my electric flush didn't work (which it does), the way this empties out made it worth it. One piece of advice for those who do purchase the Thetford toilet. The little air vent button that I like does have a tiny flaw, but can be avoided. Make sure that you do not fill the waste in your toilet up to full. When you go to empty it and it is completely full, when you push the air vent button the waste liquid may leak out where the button is located. Luckily, I did not have the waste close to being full when I emptied it, but found out this minor flaw after I decided to completely fill it with water on my third rinse of the toilet. So please be aware that this can happen. Still, I would get this Thetford Curve even with that tiny flaw ONE YEAR UPDATE: IT HAS BEEN A YEAR AND IT STILL WORKS GREAT. THE FLUSH STILL WORKS GREAT. NO ISSUES AT ALL. ONE OF THE COMMENTS I MADE ORIGINALLY WAS THAT IT WAS AWKWARD TO EMPTY (ESPECIALLY WITH A BAD BACK). I HAVE NO PROBLEM EMPTYING IT AND IT IS NOT AWKWARD ANYMORE...IT JUST TOOK GETTING USED TO EMPTYING THIS STYLE OVER THE FIAMMA. MATTER OF FACT, I HAVE FOUND THAT EMPTYING THE THETFORD CURVE IS MUCH FASTER THAN MY PREVIOUS FIAMMA AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN THAT IT DOES NOT CREATE A GLOB GLOB SPLASHING EFFECT. IT IS SMOOTH TO EMPTY, QUICK TO EMPTY AND MAKES A CRAPPY JOB (PUN INTENDED) BEARABLE.
Review: Great product, no issues so far. - We used this to replace the toilet in our camper. Our black tank had a crack in it so rather than replace the tank, and the old toilet that was falling apart, we just went and mounted this one in there and capped off the black tank hole where the old toilet was. The overall feel is almost too light, but that isn't an issue at all when the fresh water tank is filled. Unit is actually more solid than I thought. The height of the unit is great, completely correct for your average adult. Seat is moderately comfortable and I have no complaints about it, and neither has anyone else in our group. Toilet paper holder isn't great as far as placement, but that's more because of the way the toilet is sitting near the wall in the bathroom, but that's not a big deal. It does work though, and is handy if you were going to use it in a more 'portable' application. Since we don't use the camper that much, it only needs to be emptied about once every two weeks to a month. I'd say using some extra treatment chemical is definitely recommended for such long retention periods though, as it helps eliminate odor and ensure things are broken down like they should without unwanted bacteria growth. That said, odor is NOT an issue, the unit keeps a very good seal on the built in holding tank, and I'm pretty sure it smells better than the toilet at my house does usually. One note: Make sure to close the lid before flushing. This prevents any splashing (though I hadn't had this problem personally) and prevents you from getting 'burped on' by the toilet if any pressure has built up in the holding tank. Dumping the tank: Dumping the tank is easier than I thought. I always dump it when it's about 3/4 full, and I can lift it with the built in handles. Pouring it into a residential toilet at the house is an option, though I prefer dumping it in the sewer clean out by the side of the house. This prevents any potential splashing if I mess up from being a problem. People had commented about how horrible the odor was when dumping this. I have not had this problem, provided I use an adequate amount of the treatment chemical for the retention period, as I mentioned before.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can this also be manually flushed in case your batteries are dead?**
A: This is a REALLY sore subject with this model toilet. The battery-powered flushing mechanism is short-lived, where it will suddenly and inexplicably break. Added to this is that Thetford doesn't offer a reasonable replacement for the flush mechanism in the U.S., they want to charge almost as much as the entire toilet unit! So if your flush mechanism breaks (and it will), then A) you can't flush the toiler from the toilet's reservoir water anymore, and B) you can't buy a replacement pump for less than the cost of a whole toilet. In the 1-star review section of this product I found that this same toilet is sold under a different name in Europe, and that replacement parts are actually available for it, so I was able to completely get rid of the battery pump and replace it with a manual one:Piston pump: 92401111 (Signal white) 9240166 (Light ivory) 92401130 (Ruby red)Electric pump: 92402135 (Light grey granite) 9240207 (Traffic grey)Hope this helps someone.

**Q: How or where do you empty this toilet? Can it be emptied in a cabin toilet? Is it nasty to empty?**
A: Susan - the toilet separates with a latch into top and bottom halves. The bottom half iss the waste tank. When you separate the halves you will see a tube with a screw cap that swivels out to the side. This will serve as the spout to enable you to pour the waste into any flush toilet. By "cabin toilet", I assume you mean a normal toilet with plumbing. If so, yes. If you mean a compost toilet, then you can empty the waste into it, but keep in mind that it will be up to 5 gallons, which could overload a small compost toilet. It's not particularly nasty to empty, especially if you press the small relief valve button before opening the cap on the waste spout. This will prevent splashback. When you pour the waste out, just do it slowly and gently to prevent "glugging" and splash. After the waste is emptied, just run some water back onto the pour spout, replace the cap, and slosh around a bit to rinse clean. Then empty the rinse water into the toilet as well. Make sure to replace the deodorant liquid before storing to eliminate odor. The Thetford site has some pretty good into on the emptying process at http://www.thetford.com/HOME/PRODUCTS/PortableToilets/ThetfordPortableToiletVideos/tabid/871/Default.aspx. Also, check out the YouTube demo at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwNFB6NVGf4. Hope this helps!

**Q: I love the toilet but I have noticed that pressure builds up in the tank and if a user opens the gate valve with the seat/lid up it is enough to cause them to get a faceful of poop spray. I did not have this problem with an earlier model Thetford and am puzzled as to what the cause might be. Permanent mount in sailboat.**
A: Yes I noticed this also the reason is this toilet has bigger tanks then my older one and the larger the tank the more air pressure can build inside of it the easy fix for this is before you use the toilet wad a few squares of toilet paper and set it directly over the hole and then close the lid and open the slide on the toilet slowly and that will let the pressure out and You won’t get splash in the face then you’re good to go and you might want to do that every time if it’s going to be hot where you’re at or if you’ve changed altitude.

**Q: Is there a way to take apart the bottom half in order to clean it? Waste builds up on any toilet and needs to be scrubbed, not just rinsed.**
A: I carry the bottom waste tank to the campground toilet along with two gallon jugs of treated water. I dump the waste first. Then I pour in 1/3 to 1/2 a gallon of treated water. Swish around and drain into the camp toilet. Check to see how clean it is or if there's an area that needs extra effort. Usually not. And then use the gallon up in 1 to 2 more rinses and swishes and draining. I use the very same products that they recommend to keep a toilet like this to not smell and develop problems with the waste and helps to break up and sanitize the waste too. I find this has worked well with no ill effects to me or my portable loo itself. Now I hate this loo since it's battery power flusher arrived busted and I did not realize it was broken until the wires themselves also broke off since it just dangled under the screw cap. That is another issue and trying to find a replacement import to fix it or switch it to a manual loo. I recommend looking for a different model or buying the manual flush version not this one. The company does not support it in the USA only in Europe under a different name.

We recently bought this to upgrade from the smaller Camp toilet. This is soooo much better then those small square camp models. First off it's the height of a normal toilet so so don't feel like you're sitting on a kids toy with your knees around your chin. Second, the depth of the bowl is deep. The built in battery operated flush pump helps with clearing the bowl. Third, emptying the bowl with the side lever is very user friendly and smoth action. And final is the nasty task of emptying the holding tank. With its long tube and swivel action and the built in notch on the bottom of the tank it makes holding it and emptying it into a regular toilet very easy. The fluid level gauges for the water and waste tanks are a great feature. With its 5gl capacity for each the flush water and waste tank you have lots of capacity. These are great option for anyone building out a van.
