Review: Great results, very fair price, but sadly, the stank is real (edited!) - Starting with the good, I am really pleased. I (61f) had been using The Ordinary 5% lactic acid drops on my face, and saw subtle improvement in surface texture. I thought, ok, I don't have any irritation with this, so let's try amping up the percentage. Test patching with this 12% product was ok. Some mild pinprickling - not burning -which is what I expected, and only lasts about a half hour. No rash, no roughness, and the faint pinpricks tell me it's penetrating to do the work. After about a week using it, I'm really liking what I see, and the price doesn't hurt at all. Having said that... I am not what anyone would call "scent sensitive". I wear perfumes, don't have any allergies, headaches, or reactions. But man, this has a smell all its own. It's just, ugh. Like you left yogurt rotting in a rubber glove. And you can't get any closer to the source of the smell than on your own face. It doesn't seem to fade much, either. I could still smell it quite clearly by the end of the day when I put it on in the morning. I actually had my friend sniff me. Closer. Ok, now closer... She practically had her nose pressed up against my cheek when she said, "Oh, ok, now I think I'm smelling it." So it's not like it's stinky to anyone else. But again, nobody smells your own face more clearly than you do, and even at the end of the day it was very noticeable to me. So I do have to knock a star off for that. Having said all that? Still gonna keep using it, because it really does seem to be doing a nice job smoothing out fine surface crepeyness on my face, and plumping/hydrating. Maybe at some point that particular receptor will burn out in my nose and I'll stop noticing that smell. I really hope so, because I rarely see such nice results in such an inexpensive product. (edit) Had to come back and edit this to give it that last star. I'm calling this User Error. More is not better here, and when I used a little less and massaged that in thoroughly, the smell was much, much less, and then really did fade away to nothing in about an hour. I guess applying too much to absorb easily on your face would naturally make it sit there all day on the surface.
Review: Addressing the famous smell! - This is a new product to me, I was recommended AmLactin for a very soecific skin purpose so only months will tell if it achieves that but I can tell you after using it that it is good as a moisturizer. I am not using it on my face, I am using it on my neck, decollette (did I spell that correctly??), arms and legs with special attention on my hands and neck. I find it to dry down to be lightweight and not greasy, and have had no irritation. It feels great. I heard about the famous smell, it almost deterred me from trying this, so let’s address that! I heard it “stinks”, smells “like ammonia”, “like milk that’s gone bad”, “awful sour milk” and my favorite “cat urine”. This was all on my mind as I timidly unscrewed the cap to smell it before I applied it. From the bottle, I honestly couldn’t smell anything. Nothing. Not a thing. Nope. No smell. So I squeezed out a pump on the back of my hand and put my nose up to it just sitting on my hand, waiting to be applied. Nothing….no smell at all. Seriously. Well, I guess I just don’t smell it, I said, and smoothed it onto the backs of my hands which get so dry they look crepey. They aren’t crepey, but they have been so dry I can imagine crepey, and I’d like to prevent this so here we are. As soon as I rubbed the lotion in a little, I sniffed my hand and ohhhhhhh, there it is, that smell. I have to put my nose to within about 3 inches of my hand to smell it so I don’t think you’ll be wafting around but it definitely does have a not awesome scent once you rub it in before it dries down. I think the descriptions of the smell are quite dramatic. No, it’s not preferable by any means, but it’s not flower wilting. It’s a MILD unpleasantly SLIGHTLY out of date milk smell and maybe mildly like light ammonia. It gets better as it dries down but you would have to pretty much TRY to smell it by putting your nose close, it doesn’t reek from afar. I can see some people not even being bothered by it at all- don’t get me wrong, it’s not anything you’d WANT to smell like as in a perfume- but I’m willing to bet the rare person likes it. It’s yucky but for real, just let it dry down and then apply your preferred body spray or whatever. Be for real, it’s a little offputting, but it IS NOT that bad. It’s tolerable and the lotion is said by dermatologists to have real skin benefits for dry bumpy outer arms or crepeiness. I will buy this again and I recommend it. If the scent is strong you might want to make sure yours has not gone bad. And this is a gentle exfoliant so wear sunscreen on every place exposed to the sun everytime you go out while using this especially which is something you should be doing (wearing sunscreen) anyway. I am happy with this purchase.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is it gluten free**
A: Yes it’s gluten free. There’s an app called Skin Safe that’s awesome to check soaps, lotions, creams, shampoo, etc.

**Q: Does the rapid relief formula actually contain more acid or is it the same?**
A: They claim to have 13% of lactic acid, if you know about AHA, that's quite a lot especially if you've never used acids or built a tolerance to it. Usually people starts out with 5-10% as to not cause irritation so I'll say the anount of acid is fine and would be the same for both. In the rapid relief, there's ceramide which is a type of lipid that can be naturally found in our skin that helps with retaining moisture and help protect the skin barrier from irritants. Hopes this info helps

**Q: What is the difference in your dermatologist recommended daily 12% lactic moisturizing lotion and your alpha- hydroxy therapy 12% lactic acid?**
A: Basically just the lactic moisturizer makes your skin smooth and soft making your skin look healthy while the alpha- hydroxy is a enhancer it helps w acne and oily skin and it retexture your skin as in someone w troublesome skin with constant use.

**Q: How do we know if the product is expired? My bottle has no expiration date but have started to smell bad**
A: per the manufacturer there is no expiration date on the product, the cream will last two (2) years from the date of purchase. the product does have a funky smell, which i was told is normal..

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for Dry, Rough Skin Without Feeling Greasy
*by M***F on May 9, 2026*

I started using this lotion because my skin was feeling really dry and rough, especially on my arms and legs, and this made a noticeable difference after about a week of consistent use. It feels richer than a regular lotion but still absorbs pretty quickly and doesn’t leave me feeling sticky. The biggest thing I noticed was how much smoother my skin felt. It helped with those dry, bumpy areas that regular moisturizer never seemed to fix. I also like that a little goes a long way, so the bottle lasts awhile. The scent is mild and kind of clinical, which may not be everyone’s favorite, but it fades pretty fast. Overall, this has become one of my go-to lotions when my skin needs extra help, especially during colder weather or after shaving.
