## Description

Wild pig hunting has become a very popular sport as well as a necessity in many areas due to their overwhelming numbers and the damage they do. Feral hogs may appear basically the same as domestic hogs in a wide variety of colors and coat patterns. A mature feral hog may reach a weight of 100 to over 400 pounds. They have 4 continuous tusks, 2 top and 2 bottom, and their contact causes a continuous sharpening of the lower tusks. The tusks combined with their lightning speed can cause serious damage to a hunter or their dogs. The TOPS Wild Pig Hunter knife is a seriously hardcore design. The 7 1/2" blade is made for deep positive piercing penetration and is combined with a strong puncture point. Each blade is ground from 1/4 inch thick 1095 high carbon steel. We added our Black River Wash finish, (you can see the heat treat line running along the entire blade edge), and the final clear coat, which will give years of dependable service. The handle is green canvas Micarta and our well known Rocky Mountain Tread which ensures a positive grip even when in wet, muddy, or bloody conditions. The sheath is made in the USA of vegetable tanned, tough steer hide.

Review: Beautiful - Ive been shopping for a SHTF fixed blade. One I thought could serve multiple purposes. Not ridiculously expensive. Under $200.00. I looked at all types. The look of this one caught my eye. I had been looking hard at Tops based on peoples comments. I only buy American if possible. I have Kershaw folders. I liked the blade on The Wild Pig Hunter. Although I doubt I will be hunting any pigs with it. I received it today and it arrived as advertised. Well made. Fit and Finnish top notch. Sharp as hell. Beautiful knife. I also ordered from desertcart despite finding the knife cheaper elsewhere. It just freaks me out to send my credit card info out to unknown vendors. I searched the knife online, finding out its based on a Russian designed fighting knife. Some people are upset about that. I don't really care. I know nothing about Russian steel. Its not an exact replica but the blade itself is very similar. No similarity in grip. The knife looks classic. Like a Roman sword or a Viking knife. It looks strong, durable, and quite deadly. Its a pretty straight forward piercing point. Not double edged. Tool steel 1/4" thick. Nice coating on blade. Tops has a quality reputation for heat treating. Not made for battoning but if I had to press it into service Im sure it would be ok. It is essentially a fighting knife. It will slice and dice and pierce medium sized mammals while also serving as a tool. The sheath is nicely made. One tip from another comment which turned out to be true is the need to watch how you sheath the knife. If you just shove it in you will cut the retaining strap to ribbons. You need to sort of start it sideways holding the strap under the blade as you push the knife into the sheath. No big deal once you know. I would definitely recommend to others interested in this style of knife. Ill write more after I use it some.
Review: Beautiful. Perfection. - Had some extra cash so I bought this and thr Tahoma field knife. When they both arrived at the same time....wow, knife party!! The Wild Pig Hunter is a killer. Completely made to stab and kill large mammals. Not elephants or anything that big. But maybe, with some good placement strikes to organs, you may be able to take down an elephant. Haha. Definitely a bison will go down with a good organ strike. A grizzly bear, a well placed organ piercing would kill it, bit it will definitely kill you first. They have claws, teeth, and weight advantage. Is a very nice looking knife. Edge grind is even. Handle is very comfortable for my medium hands. Easily more room on the handle for another finger plus. It looks more like a military fighting knife. Which is also made to kill large mammals, like humans. The sheath is all leather. Very good quality triple stiching. My sheath is a dark brown. Extremely happy with The Wild Pig Hunter. If the revolution ever happens, or Zombie apocalypse, then I am set with my head stabber. You gotta kill the head!!! Watch "The Dead Dont Die" Long live Bill Murry. This knife is not in the movie. Just a reference to "kill the head" that's all.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this a full tang knife?**
A: Yes, full tang and I believe 1/4" at the thickest. And this thickness extends forward as more or less a spine towards the point. Very strong knife. Note that this is more of a piercing blade as opposed to chopping etc.

**Q: would this preform decently as a survival knife, i know its not perfect design for it but can it hold up to batoninf skinning etc**
A: On a scale 1 to 10, Survival Knife, 10. Skinning big game, 7. fighting knife a strong, 10. This is my personal opinion. I will never go back in the swamp with out it!!!

**Q: I bought a Tops USMC fighting knife. The blade is so thick it can not get a razor edge. Is this blade Xtra thick to the edge and hard to sharpen?**
A: I don't know how blade thickness has anything to do with edge sharpness. A thin blade can be just as dull as a thick blade and a thick blade can be just as sharp as a thin blade. I've had cheaper knives of the same make and model where one would take an edge very well and the other won't. I'm guessing it has to do with the inconsistency in the heat treating. Perhaps the person at the factory didn't as good a job in honing the knife, but TOPS makes quality knives so that would be a surprise. I usually use Japanese ceramic stones to sharpen my knives and edged tools for woodworking. Some cheap knives can to all the way up to the 8000 grit stone (yes, overkill for a knife, but a good test to check metal hardness) and some knives won't go past the 4000 grit stone or even the 1000 grit stone depending on the hardness of the metal. I have a cheap MTech knife that I was having a hard time getting a decent edge on. Pretty thick blade too 1/4". I spent some time using the Smith's PP1 sharpener (http://www.amazon.com/Smiths-PP1-Pocket-Multifunction-Sharpener/dp/B000O8OTNC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449330468&sr=8-1&keywords=pp1+knife+sharpener) and it's getting a good edge now. Reestablish the edge using the coarse side.

**Q: What is the blade thickness of this knife?**
A: The Wild Pig Hunter blade thickness is 0.250 inches.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Can't expect anything less than five stars from Tops
*by C***N on January 28, 2023*

This will be one of several tops knives that I have purchased, the quality is always on par with every other tops knife which is to say excellent. Fit and finish has never had a single complaint from any tops knife fit and finish your flawless edge is perfect and polished. Among the sharpest knives that I own hands down. Take note in the pictures that the sheet is a lot darker than it is in the picture as is the micarta handle scales. If I had anything to say at all about this it would be the sheet fits loosely but seeing how the sheath is designed it's a completely silent draw. When the retaining strap in snapped in the knife is completely stationary there is no wiggle and it won't fail. It's one of the few knives or nylon Molle type. Every night I buy from Tops continues to surprise me pleasantly and as long as they keep making them at the design touches me I'll keep buying them
