## Description

The 14 track album, Shinedown's most raw and personal to date, is a mental, emotional and physical journey that follows an individual from life's lowest lows to the highest highs as anxieties dissipate and demons disappear. Given the deeply personal nature of the record, Shinedown went in house for production for the time ever, enlisting bassist Eric Bass to produce and mix the album in its entirety. ATTENTION ATTENTION ushers in Shinedown's biggest and boldest chapter yet, as they once again uproot convention and deliver a cinematic and poignant body of work.

Review: " Black Soul feels to me like a reference to their younger self and the hatred ... - Attention Attention is perhaps Shinedown's biggest musical achievement to me and I have heard all of the albums. The concept structure is a little difficult to wrap your head around the first hearing or two. I believe that it could be about the band members personally, because I know they were addicts during the first two albums at least. It could also be about just a random struggling man. The Entrance is used to start the Devil video which shows a man enter a room full of anxiety, using relaxation techniques to calm himself be fore Devil starts playing. Devil to me is the relationship of a man to his addiction. The lead chorus lyric of "It's about to get heavy" and "The devils in the next room" to me are about withdrawal and the desperate need to use being the "Devil." Black Soul feels to me like a reference to their younger self and the hatred they held. Attention Attention brings about all problems plaguing the world, which is also a reason many people use drugs. Kill your Conscience relates to how the school system teaches people to retain and repeat what they are told is right and how people make their beliefs without full consideration of all view points, thus killing our ability to think critically. Pyro to me seems like a therapist session because the pre-chorus mentions parents, which are usually how we make conclusions to determine how people become what they are and in the chorus it says to "Set fire to the family tree," which I interpret as forgive them for what they have done. (I don't know if the members had family problems, just what this song feels like to me). Monsters is about personal demons such as addiction and perhaps social and mental problems, which feel like they are unbeatable. The want to overcome the monsters is mentioned in the song's chorus. Darkside seems the most difficult one to interpret. I interpret it as finally accepting all of the problems from the title track and trying to deal with them while being in the middle of an addiction. Creatures speaks about how humans always go back onto their habits and how difficult to break they are, while they are judged by having the habit. Evolve to me is the man finally overcoming and breaking free of his addition and becoming a new man. Get Up is the man with a new desire to experience life and him wanting to enjoy it to the fullest. special is talking about a person who is younger and thus feels like a letter to them that says being special does not matter. The Human Radio is about how addicted we are to technology and what we learn from it is also killing connection and innovation. (Favorite off of the album for me) Brilliant is a hard rock closer that says it is finally my time to become what I always wanted to be. The final 30 seconds of the song are the man who entered the room in The Entrance leaving the room. The album holds a variety of sounds that please all forms of music lovers. It has the heavy rock sounds people have been asking for and throws in some songs that have twists in the instrumentals. The spacing of the songs makes sure that not too many fast songs and slow songs are bunched up right after another. The Album in my opinion is a 4.98/5.00 only because I feel like the end of Brilliant, once the song finished, should of been a closing song titled "The Exit" since it has "The Entrance" and I feel like that would make more sense since the Album is a concept. Just a tiny nitpick. Outstanding Album by an outstanding band.
Review: Creativity Shines - I absolutely love this album. Shinedown has been my favorite band for the past 15 years or so. I've had the pleasure of seeing them live 4 times now and they get better every single time. Their passion for the music and fans is inspiring. I always considered Sound of Madness their best and wasn't sure if they'd ever be able to hit that mark again. The next two albums were good, but nowhere near the caliber of their predecessor. Then came Attention Attention. The first time I heard it....I wasn't sure. Then I listnened again, and again and again. The emotion. The music itself. Brents voice. Everything about this album is pure genious. It hits me right in the heart. I broke down crying at points. This album although not traditional "rock" is the best work they have done. I don't consider myself a truly emotional person and I don't really suffer from any depression or anxiety issues. But for those that do, please listen to this entire album in its entirety from front to back in order. You will see that life can take you on your ups and downs and at the very end...you can be brilliant. Don't give up. Thank you to the boys of Shinedown for taking a chance and making and producing this gift to the rock world. We are grateful for you.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Attention Attention: There is much more than meets the eye
*by S***Y on December 15, 2018*

This is a great album! I know there has been some criticism for the direction that Shinedown went for this album or that some feel it's to radio friendly or produced for a younger generation. After listening to it the first time around I took some time to read an article in which Shinedown talks about Attention Attention and how they produced it themselves because this was THEIR sound. Everything is truly done by them. They recorded it, produced it and mixed it themselves which to me made the cd even more enjoyable. Each song from the first to the last are a journey through their lives and those around them that have a profound effect on their lives. Song subjects range from dealing with our own demons, to how our lives revolve around social media and the separation that it creates from meeting and interacting with real people, to realizing that no matter what race, sex, or age that we are we are no more special then any other human on this planet, to addressing a fellow members struggle with bi-polar disease. The lyrics really get into some real gritty subjects that can be taboo for people and I commend them for daring to talk about such issues. Highly recommend!
