## Overview

Jacquard iDye Poly Violet is a specialized, dissolvable dye packet designed to color polyester and synthetic materials with ease and vibrancy. Perfect for fabrics, plastics, and cosplay accessories, it dyes 2-3 pounds of material per 14g packet without messy powders, making it the go-to solution for professional-quality, at-home synthetic dyeing.

## Description

Available in a wide variety of colors (for all natural fabrics (cotton, silk, wool, linen and rayon) and polyesters and nylons). There are also two laundry aids: Color Remover which will remove or lighten a color and brighten whites and Sun Blocker which, when added to the wash cycle will penetrate clothing and block harmful UV rays from the sun. iDye comes in a packet that dissolves in water which means there is no handling of messy dye powders. Just throw the dye packet in add salt and run through the wash cycle. It is ultimately the easiest way to get gorgeous color! Packets weigh 14 gms and will dye 2-3 pounds of fabric each.

Review: Amazing Fast Results - This was my first time home dying anything and I’ve been totally blown away by the results. Photo speaks for itself. I needed a green bra, couldn’t find one, this was a brand new item in nude which you can see is now a beautiful forest green to match my dress, I’m over the moon with the results.
Review: No Staying power - Ok, disappointed. I used this to change the colour and refresh some cotton teatowels to match other items in my kitchen - the colour was great initially, but it washes out and also contaminates other clothing as it does so. So really disappointed with the overall result

## Questions & Answers

**Q: This listing is very misleading. The title says that the dye is for Polyester but the description plainly says "For use on 100% natural fabrics."???**
A: The confusion is because Amazon's editors are either too moronic or lazy to read carefully. if you look on the bottom left of the box (put your cursor over it to enlarge), you'd see that it actually says, "For use with 100% natural fabrics...use iDye for natural fabrics." Amazon left out the second half of that sentence because it was on a separate line. But it's clearly part of the same sentence. So yes, iDye Poly is made for 100% polyester )and synthetics. If your fabric is a natural-poly blend, you need to add in some normal iDye (see second photo).

**Q: Yes, but what are you ordring if you choose this???**

**Q: The listing says this is for use in washing machines, why does that oacket say you have to use boiling water on the stove?! not happy**
A: Very sorry. The listing is not correct. We have 2 types of iDye natural and poly. The poly has to be boiled

**Q: Will this dye thread?**
A: Yes. It’s meant to dye polyester and most thread is also made of polyester. It would also dye cotton thread (but most likely your clothes don’t have cotton thread). But it may dye the thread a slightly different color than the fabric.

I used it to dye a bathing suit and I was amazed that the dye got a very dee color on the material, living, thread, and even in the plastic clip closure. It worked really well!!! Has stayed even through years swimming and washing - but I had to buy a big pot and boil the suit in there to dye properly. I would not use a washing machine to dye!!!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Defies expectation!
*by J***R on 24 February 2026*

So I love my sofa but it was a freebie and the colour, though lovely, isn’t me. I’d been thinking of re-covering it but it’s a great fabric and I thought if only I could just dye it… I’m no stranger to dyeing natural fibres but I’ve always seen synthetics as beyond my reach so I looked into those fabric paints you can buy that people often use to change the colour of chairs and sofas, but the finish always looks patchy and it takes forever and multiple coats, etc, I didn’t fancy that. So I decided to try experimenting with synthetic dyes. The manufacturer stresses that for it to work your dye bath needs to be at near boiling temperatures for a prolonged period for the dye to bond with polyester, I think you’re essentially melting the dye into the plastic fibres. It’s strongly advised that use a stovetop method, however these are big pieces of fabric and I don’t have pots that big enough. There’s a 90* wash on my machine though so I figured it was worth a bash for £7. It was an agonising two and a half hours excitedly waiting to see if the dye would take but I am thrilled to report that it did. It was as easy as putting a wash cycle on, the dye is in powder form and comes in a soluble packet so I chucked that in the drum, emptied the contents of the colour activator in with it and a tiny squirt of washing up liquid just to help get the dye into the pile of the velvet. It did dye some of the plastic elements in the drum and I wouldn’t advise putting the dye in your detergent drawer as this might also change colour. But if I understand correctly that dye shouldn’t leach out, it’s now permanently bonded with the plastic so no drama there. I can’t say how durable it is in practice but based on that premise it should last just as well as whatever the original colour was. This is not for the faint hearted but if you’re open to the possibility it might not work out go for it! I’m ordering more now and will have to tackle removing the fixed upholstery from my sofa so that I can repeat the process for the whole thing. Think it all through before you set out, be prepared for what could go wrong and might just end up with something beautiful!
