## Description

Grover/Trophy Musical Products was founded in 1922 as a wholesaler of musical instruments and accessories under the name Grossman Music Corporation. We began manufacturing in the 1940s and eventually exited the wholesale business entirely to concentrate on manufacturing. We are best known for our full range of Grover guitar tuning keys, including the popular ROTOMATIC series for guitars along with tuning keys for basses, mandolins, banjos and ukuleles; as well as bridges, cables, the Ultra CapoTM and other fretted string instrument accessories

Review: Works on a Epi Dot 335 - It's wider than most electric guitar nuts so it spreads the strings wider and raises them higher which is perfect for playing slide. It really turns your guitar into a Lapsteel guitar. The action with this does become to high to useably fret but it does a great job and it's cheap and well made.
Review: High enough to allow using a Beard capo - Very happy with this. It's effective and easy to fit. I had a simple raised nut made of angled sheet-metal, that raised the action high enough to allow playing lap-style on an old acoustic, but when I got a dobro capo, the action wasn't quite high enough to allow the capo to fit properly (a Beard Wave Dobro Capo that I really like). Fitting this new nut raised the action enough that the capo now fits perfectly.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this work for playing bottleneck? Holding the guitar in a traditional way**
A: I put one of these nuts on an acoustic guitar to play in my lap, and another on a Telecaster MIA which i play holding vertical in a traditional way. I use a standard glass or metal slide over my finger, so i guess a bottleneck would work, too. However, this nut raises the strings high above the fretboard so it will not allow you to fret the strings with your fingers -- just to play with a slide -- because the clearance is too high. If you want to press the strings against the frets with your fingers, you will have to find a solution that leaves your strings closer to the frets than this product. I hope this helps.

**Q: Has anyone tried this on a Telecaster type guitar?**
A: I have put this Grover Perfect nut on a Squier Telecaster, on a MIM Telecaster, and on an Anniversary MIA Telecaster. The nut was too wide for my Squier and my MIM teles, and stuck over the edges of the fretboard, but they played fine. The Grover Perfect nut fit my Anniversary MIA Telecaster almost perfectly because it's fretboard is narrower at the nut. I have played these guitars lap style, standing with the guitar held horizontally at my waist with a strap, and vertically, which is more of a balancing act. But whatever I did, I always liked the sound. I hope you get what you need!

**Q: Will this work with my acoustic that has 1-3/4 spacing at the nut? Also, does it work on electric? Thanks**
A: Hello ExHead, I don't know about an electric, but the Grover was a perfect fit for my resonator which has a 1-3/4 nut as does my Acoustic, as a matter of fact I'm thinking of ordering another one for my Acoustic. The Grover itself is 1-7/8 and does space the strings very slightly wider apart which in my case is a real good thing. I hope this helps you.

**Q: Will this fit over the nut on a lap guitar? The third string on my lap guitar is about 1 mm lower than the other strings making it hard to play.**
A: It should, although for a couple dollars more you could just replace the nut itself. The Grover should work but your strings are going to be uber high, not really a problem for a lap steel, but just saying. My big issue with the Grover is the string spacing, approx 1-11/16" overall with 5/16" between strings, I have 2 that I couldn't use on slide guitars as it placed the strings off the fretboard, again as said probably not an issue with lap steels.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cool little gadget
*by B***S on 5 January 2025*

Great way to convert an unused acoustic guitar perhaps with a bad neck/action into a lap steel. I used John Pearse hawaiian lap steel strings (open C tuning) and it works pretty well. This solution is probably not as good as a purpose-built lap steel guitar but it's definitely good enough to give slide guitar a go before committing to an expensive Gretsch or Dusenberg lap steel. A warning.. The nut is quite wide, it'll fit a standard acoustic guitar but it might be too wide for a Strat or Tele.
