My son (9 year old) has been using it. Also the game pad with the wi u can be used. However he has been moaning about the slight inconvenience of using the old wii remote, especially when playing with his friends and thus twisted my arm in getting him a new wireless remote. **Q: is sonic the hedge hog in this game too, my son (6) asked us to buy the new Super mario game for him, but said Sonic is in it - I cant see he is...** A: This is a SuperMario Bros. game so no Sonic is not in it. I think you may be confusing this game with Mario and Sonic at the Rio Olympics. **Q: Will this play on an older Wii console? Is the Wii U different? I know nothing about these, just my nephew wants this game and I am concerned it will** A: This game does not play on the original Wii. It only plays on the WiiU. **Q: Is it good** A: Yes. Good fun and typical Mario action. This game is crisp, beautiful and vibrant in colour and graphics. Gameplay is divided into challenge type mini games that include speed runs (very fun - and I find helps improve your gameplay ability) and the regular story mode. It's worth noting that even after all these years, and using the same foes Nintendo continues to provide unique level design. The real beauty of this game (and those before it) is the level of difficulty. It walks a fine line between being easy for a beginner who takes their time, and being quite difficulty for a veteran who wants to get through levels very quickly and with all coins/not being hit. Simply brilliant game. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great coop play *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 14 May 2014* Aside from the HD graphics, what my family love most about this is the cooperative play on this game.As everyone knows, when it comes to video games, it's not long before the kids leave us parents standing. Now we parents can take part again, by taking the supportive role in coop mode using the Gamepad. Using the Gamepad, another player can block or stun enemies, place platforms strategically so that the kids can progress through the levels and reach new areas. It's still frantic fun of course, and some times I join in as player 3 or 4.. well, I try anyway ;o)Highly Recommended, especially if you love Mario games. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Classic Mario, best since Super Mario World on SNES *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 18 December 2012* I'll keep this short:If you like 2D platformers, you'll love thisIf you like Mario games of old, you'll love thisIf you like playing fun games with family, you'll love thisIf you like a challenge, you'll love this.If you have a WiiU, you should buy this.Pros:Fun, Fun, Fun.Lovely HD graphicsChallening in the later stagesMiiverse integration is neat and unobtrusiveMusic is worringly catchyMultiplayer is fun and engagingCons:You will swear alot when you get to some of the later stagesA bit short. --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.ni/products/52308847-new-super-mario-bros-u-wii-u](https://www.desertcart.ni/products/52308847-new-super-mario-bros-u-wii-u) --- *Product available on Desertcart Nicaragua* *Store origin: NI* *Last updated: 2026-10-07*
